So as I'm bored, I have literally looked through every HRES model to find some crumbs for our region regards tomorrow...

The way I see it is the band of snow (weakening all the time) will head South and then more South West into Mids/Wales and on the whole unless you are more North West based, it will miss us bar the odd flake.

The only crumb and it is a very small one (about enough to feed an ant) is perhaps we should look more towards the Southern North Sea/Estuary Friday evening into early hours Saturday. Winds should swing somewhere between NE'ly-E'ly at this time and there is a small window and chance of some instability sparking some wintry showers to be pulled across some parts of the region, as the band to the west slides away SW.

That's about all I can find I'm afraid, unless anything changes next couple of runs.

Unfortunately I agree, this event has the hallmarks of another load of snow for the NW and West Midlands AGAIN! To be fair I had written off the next couple of weeks for any chance of snowfall in this region anyway so expectations were kept low.

Let’s see what the SSW dispenses in the next week or so??

Correct. Dew points and air temps too high for any snow on low ground. Perhaps a sleety shower if you are really lucky

Yup same here again today, 3°C is our favourite number at the moment (not the magic number as Del la Soul would have you believe!). Seems like we’ve had more days of 3 degrees and dank greyness than anything else the past month. Totally wasted synoptics... actually that sounds like a good band name that!

Oh how I long for a decent easterly where you don't have to worry about marginality, even at sea level, back in the 80s, yes Im old, don't ever remember an easterly in early January being marginal, oh how times have changed.

Agreed. Also old enough to remember the 80’s events and obviously Feb  91, I think we’ve been terribly unlucky here with no real cold to tap into when the synoptics are just right. Having said I seem to remember a while ago a wise poster used to mention it sometimes take a few failed attempts at an easterly to hit the jackpot... let’s hope the dice fall kindly for us post SSW!

Must admit very impressed with how cold it is today. Nowhere near the High the BBC were saying which was 2c for here

Currently at -1.2c with a -1c Dewpoint now that is very impressive for the Coast

Agreed Paul, just got back from a run and frost everywhere in the shade hovering around 0°c here too. Some impressive freezing fog last night too. What’s your views on next week and the initial easterly, uppers too marginal for snow for us do you think ?

  5. Quick question for the more technical  minded members...

considering we are under low pressure (albeit very slack) we have seen very little precipitation falling over our region. Have we been stuck in a pocket of drier air or is it to do with upper air flow? Aside from the disappointment of not seeing falling snow was just wondering if there’s a meteorological reason behind it? Be great to learn and understand why it panned out the way it has? TIA

  6. Looking like another snow chance gone for today, it’s been trending that way for days now so not a total let down.

Still lots of ‘potential’ in the medium/long term but it’s starting to become apparent that in this current setup the potential isn’t fully materialising - for this part if the uk anyway. I know there’s a long way to go in this winter but the constant grey leaden skies, 3°C and barely any frosts isn’t really floating my boat at the moment.

Onto next week and there’s the hope of a more favourable NE’erly to easterly which historically has been fruitful for EA and the the south east for snow (old enough to remember 91 and 87 too)  just hope the 850’s are cold enough ??

Good luck to you guys on the south coast for later, you might just scrape something!

Let's see if the met change there warnings with the northern extent of the low weds evening

Met Office have adjusted the warning south, for now the game is up anywhere north of Essex (from this feature) latest runs and fax back this up unfortunately. Personally speaking I hope it does move further north but might be relying on a feed of showers here once the low pulls away.

  8. Brief spell of light snow here in Ipswich  in the early hours but no covering to speak of, in fact it melted what leftover snow there was remaining from the other day! temps and dp were too marginal. That’s still the case the morning. Looks like some people did ok around the region but haven’t seen any decent depths reported (7cm+) so far...

Wintry mix today/this weekend and a few more sliders going forward seems to be the theme... give me a solid ENE any day!
