  1. Looks a miserable weak of cold temperatures (but not cold enough) coupled with rain. Highly unpleasant! - At least the cold spell delivered for alot of our region though, must be hard work being down south where every marginal event turns out to be the wrong side of marginal
  2. Looks like a week or so of warmer (but by no means warm) temperatures with alot of rain about. Highly unpleasant. After that, plenty of options remain on the table.
  3. The GFS reverts to it's standard default setting towards the end of its run with pumped up lows swirling round the Atlantic for days on end. With the current northern hemisphere profile, this seems unlikely but things will become more clear towards the weekend - if nothing else, its been nice to have the rain ease off for a while.
  4. Lots of wedges of high pressure over the pole still - looks very promising going into winter even if we end up with a bit of a warm up towards the end of next week. Certainly nothing like a standard zonal setup.
  5. All very messy - pointless getting too hung up on details yet. It looks marginal at best for snow at the moment but some sort of battleground scenario is more than feasible (particularly with some elevation) and moving forward it all looks very promising going into winter.
  6. Looks like there is the potential for another 24hr deluge on Sunday. Falling on very saturated ground now too.
  7. I think the heaviest stuff stayed a bit further south so it's gone into the River Rother/Hipper (and extensively flooded Chesterfield). The Rother joins the Don after Meadowhall so I think the Doncaster section might be in for some trouble
  8. Looks like most Chesterfield river records are going to go. The Hipper is already over its 2007 level Im a bit further north in South Sheffield and the rain as been relentless for s few hours now.
  9. Ground is completely saturated after last nights rain - I suspect the rivers will react quickly to tomorrows persistent heavy rain
  10. Good for easterlies though if we get the right synoptics? - A warm north sea and a cold enough easterly = snow showers was my understanding
  11. Chilly breeze today. Its been wet on and off for weeks but first time its felt like cool
  12. I haven't actually found July too bad really. Mainly a mix of sun and torrential showers. Not great obviously but it's been nothing like the March/April horror story with endless cloudy nothingness for weeks on end. At least something is actually happening weather wise.
  13. It has been a great week in Sheffield. A mix of sun and broken cloud. Lovely in the sun without intense heat suits me fine
  14. It's been a more interesting week of sun and heavy rain. Sadly back to overcast, chilly nothingness again today.
  15. We actually had a period of hot sunshine yesterday afternoon but normal service has resumed now. Chilly, cloudy nothingness.
  16. Another murky, chilly day. At least it did something yesterday with a bit of rain.
  17. It's not been overly bad in Sheffield really with regards rain but this murky, nothingness is getting tedious. There's been some sunny days mixed in too but it's often been accompanied by a cold breeze. I think part of it is not wanting to use the heating too much so the house is often cooler than I'd like it to be!
  18. Very quick thaw considering the amount of snow on the ground. Been a great few days though. Some amazing sights over the snow fields
  19. A ridiculously good event for much of yorkshire - as usual some altitude helped as it was only just the right side of marginal at times. Moving forward looks like some more potential snow on Saturday and the overall pattern looks like it has potential if you have the stomach for another cold chase
  20. Snow depth is a touch over 30cm. Would have given 2010 a run for its money if it wasnt for the slight thaw yesterday afternoon
  21. There is a crazy amount of snow in south Sheffield this morning. Well over a foot and big drifts
  22. Altitude seems to have been key so far. We have had a good dumping already in south Sheffield. Hopefully lower elevations will join the party later this evening.
