  1. Same for my area south of Sheffield. It also says -9 on Friday night which feels like overkill on its part! - it does look like it'll be a bitterly cold night over the snow fields though
  2. Some good bonus snow before (hopefully) the main event tomorrow. Temperatures are forecast to be around 0 so not too much in the way of a thaw before Saturday
  3. Light snow in South Sheffield now. Looking at the radar there is the interesting scenario of snow approaching from both the west and east with Yorkshire in the middle
  4. Still looking good for tomorrow afternoon into Friday, particular if you have some elevation - the colder air following the low down should prolong the snow cover into the weekend too. Looks bitterly cold on Friday night.
  5. Some highly exciting looking charts but it's all on a knife edge. Anything from hitting the snow jackpot to getting nothing at all seems feasible!
  6. Looks like there is the potential for continuing snow into next week. Often on a knife edge of course but repeated plunges of cold air definitely seem feasible.
  7. Nice to have some warmth and sunshine! I've got one last cold chase in me but better it stays mild than some chilly murk that doesn't deliver snow.
  8. Looks like next week is a fail for a full on beasterly - it'll be cold/chilly but no real deep cold. The overall Northern Hemisphere pattern looks promising to me though heading towards mid month.
  9. Been a strange winter really - we've had 2 cold spells of a week or more in Sheffield and snow on the ground too. It just feels like it never really delivered to the full potential. Not looking forward to the next few days of chilly, murky nothingness - the worst of all weather types imo.
  10. Decent web cam at Fort Myers - looks like the storm surge has arrived there. Some crazy fools are out swimming in it
  11. Category 4 (140mph sustained winds) now according to: National Hurricane Center WWW.NHC.NOAA.GOV
  12. Suns out today a bit more but it's been a week of chilly, murky nothingness. The worst sort of weather as far as i'm concerned.
  13. It is quite poor with regards the rain warnings. Gauges on the Derwent are at record levels upstream and near that further down river
  14. It's been a very boring winter weather wise - not zonal by any means and it's actually been chilly/cold here for weeks now but dull as ditch water with a blanket of gloom more often than not.
  15. Cold murk again in Sheffield - can't think of anything worse. A bit more interest in a few days at least
  16. Decent first half of the summer, dire second half. Nothing particularly wet or cold but endless murk is almost as bad
  17. Heavy snow and a fair covering in South Sheffield (200m). Nort that I welcome it at this time of year!
  18. Bizarre posts really when we have height rises to the north of us. Yes they might initially be on top of us but there's way more potential from this sort of setup than a zonal train running through the country
  19. We aren't going to extend the current cold spell past Sunday but the overall pattern doesn't look too bad to me in the medium term with wedges of high pressure to the north of the UK
  20. Shows what could have occurred if the showers had been a bit less scattered! - get under a heavy one and it settles very quickly. It's just you often had to wait a day for the next one!
  21. The pattern does have the potential to fall favourably if you want another chance of extended cold rather than a battleground event. Very much in the balance and not 10 days away either. The cold is never too far from our shores and it wouldn't take much of a shift to get it moving towards us rather than staying to the east of us.
  22. Missed out on all the showers last night sadly but still got another covering. Quite typical of the event really, either you got right under the mini streamers or you got scattered showers, never really thickened out into a wider band for any length of time but sounds like it delivered for the east of our region at least! Looking ahead it seems like warmer air (not too warm at the surface) will eventually win out after the weekend but then there's many options on the table heading into next weekend
  23. The streamers have been so narrow with this cold period. If you arent directly under them, you get nothing at all
