Interestingly GFS 06z has me for clear skies tomorrow whereas the local TV forecast has me for overcast with any breaks only possible the further NW in the region.
I don't have any of the special glasses are there any recommendations for tricks to see it? Not necessarily to stare directly at the sun, but if I was to reflect the suns light with a mirror onto a flat surface will I be able to see the 'chunk' taken out of the sun?
Well I think this is the most confused I've been with any winter spell. We've got BBC National forecasts, regional forecasts and BBC weather online (although they're generated from UKMO data I asumme) all saying something different. Plus the NMM precip and Euro4 plus others showing differences for tonight. Just shows the perils of forecasting snow!
Yes DP is dropping and should continue to drop as aforementioned.
PPN slowly creeping eastwards as well. Hopefully might fall as snow in heavier bursts.
Have to admit it felt quite pleasant out of the wind while on my way to work this morning. Did notice some patches of frost in sheltered areas though. Hopefully some snow to come for us southerners. From a IMBY perspective DPs look favourable after 15z. Just gotta get some PPN down here.
That's a great site. Thanks for the link.
Much more up to date and detailed than XCWeather.
Finers crossed for some snow come morning. Those lower DPs are slowly moving S/E.
I was looking forward to reading your expanded thoughts/forecast for the upcoming winter, Steve.
I guess whatever you were going to post is along the same lines as the NW forecast then?
Thanks so much! Had a quick read and it's very well explained and easily digestible even for someone like me who hasn't studied meteorology outside of it being a hobby. So kudos to the team. Looks like we could have a good winter!
Not sure if this has been posted or not but here but this was posted on Twitter from Cohen AER/NSF site showing below average temps for parts of the U.K during DJF, based in part on the OPI.
I remember this event quite well. I was only 13 at the time and remember thinking how great the timing of it was (7am ish) as it meant I got the day off of school. Alot of people got stuck for most of the day unfortunately.
I think I had 5-6 inches here and it seemed to be turn into more 'wet snow' just before midday for about an hour. It petered out here mid afternoon and at one point we had some of the 'polystyrene balls' that Paul referred to a few year later.
Definitely the Greenhithe/Dartford area bore the brunt of it with patches of snow remaining considerably longer than in Medway.
ETA: Does anyone have the post from Paul with his explanation of the 'polystyrene balls'?
Looking again, you might be right. Nontheless, whatever the shift, it's almost negligible.
I'm surprised you're able to see so much, don't you live in S.E London now?
I don't think so. We're right on the edge here and it's slowly moving east, plus any CG's seem to be sporadic and random rather than concentrated in specific areas.
Couple of flashes here, although most of the action is further east. Looks like Brighton has been taking a battering again. http://www.theargus.co.uk/news/11529357.Flooding_as_torrential_storms_hit_Brighton/?ref=mr
