  1. It was a grim day but oddly felt quite cosy being inside with the wind and rain battering the windows. Felt more akin to being on the coast of Cornwall during a big storm. The wind wasn't anything exceptional but it was still strong but I think compared to the storms gone by over the last few years, it was the combination of rain and wind which made it sound even worse than it was. Then of course it was dark for most of the day too. So yes some terrible flooding around but as I was at home today, I managed to sit inside and enjoy the relaxing sounds of the rain hammering the windows!
  2. We had torrential rain around 11am, and it was a little windy but nothing exceptional. Yet just down the road, there was a damage from winds in Meir (supposedly a tornado but looks straight line to me!).
  3. Sounds like a red warning rather than amber but I guess it would be red only if they could pinpoint specific areas. Looks like any activity for the Midlands is out now
  4. A fantastic storm this evening. We've had a fairly storm free year in Stoke but I've not seen a storm on this scale since I was a child. Over an hour of constant thunder, lightning and flooding rains. The rain eased off at one point like someone turned a tap off and then suddenly it got even worse before some overheard strikes went boom. Witnessed some interesting clouds as well, it looked like they were back-building for a while right above. I chased the back end of the storm into the Staffs Moorlands but had to abandon the chase due to the flooding. The run-off from fields was just insane and the roads littered with debris. Managed to get to a high spot with the sun-setting to the west and the sky black as night to the north with some great lightning strikes across the sky. I've never chased before as most storms are so small in size that it seems impossible to follow but this was so long-lived and wide you could barely miss it. Seeing it roll over the Peak District in the distance was impressive. There was a real eerie wind as well on the back edge. Pictures/video to follow.
  5. No storms in Stoke today, I believe they fired up east of here. Little disappointed as the potential was there for some good ones. Not a great year for us so far for storms considering a vast amount of the UK has had good storms.
  6. I know a fair few of us go on holidays to hot climates where nights at this temp are the norm but it doesn't beat the feeling of it being IMBY. The feeling of walking out of an air-conned office into this heat outside at this time of night is incredible. Not a hint of chill. I also feel in the heat that things sound different. The motorway traffic seems more subdued like the heat creates a deadening noise (like snow in Winter).
  7. Forecast of 53-54C for Desert Valley. 48.3C for Phoenix forecast on Monday,
  8. Great images and story. I was watching the radar at the time and thinking you were getting pummeled under there. A very unique situation for our country!
  9. The rain has been relentless in these storms for days round the Black Country and Birmingham. Some crazy scenes. I can't recall a week like this for some time where there are daily thunderstorms and not even due to heating. We larely missed the bulk in Stoke but there were some great clouds tonight.
  10. Finally we had a few rumbles today and some big downpours again.
  11. Pretty dry in Stoke today with the odd heavy burst. No thunder again; stark contrast to west and south of here.
  12. Yes I agree, despite the cloud bubbling over this evening it felt warmer than any night previously despite todays temps being lower. It was 21C at 10pm still. Looks like the first rain could fall here tomorrow, first proper rain in 2 and a half weeks,
  13. I know we have a day or so left of the humid weather but we've enjoyed some dry and sunny weather for the past 2 and a bit weeks, so a pattern change was inevitable. I know most of the country hasn't had it great but the north Midlands has had some great weather.
  14. Some of the images from the Black Country are unreal. Didn't help it was in rush hour as well. Never seen pictures like it.
  15. Cell now prepped up west of Stoke. Sadly I'm not in the firing line.
  16. Some impressive flash flooding from round Birmingham...cars submerged in parts.
  17. Looks to be quietening down bar that small cell above.
  18. Nothing of interest in the West Midlands, looks like a band of rain and that is all.
  19. Bit unfair we had all the heat for the past few days and no storms. It is dark looking here but no cells around at all :-(
  20. Yes hoping for something in Stoke later today..I work nights in Birmingham so if we have any pop-ups overnight that'll be good but then I want the activity further now when I get home!
  21. We are on the 15th day without rain. The ground is now very dry. Goes back a few years since we went without rain like this.
  22. Severe storm studios are testing a new setup similar to TVN with chat. david drummond posted a screenshot of it the day of the closedown. Gutted since I love TVN
  23. I'm about a mile from this. The sky looked menacing for sure and we had four intense cracks of thunder with very heavy graupel but for the most parts winds were light.
