  1. Another spell of sleet/ice/snow for the deep south including Houston, only the second time on record that snow has fallen 3 times in a winter. Some remarkable temps around, down to -6C in the city of Houston overnight. New Orleans also having a hard freeze and snow.
  2. Not sure what happened overnight, but around 2am it was frozen solid with a dusting of snow and at 4.30am when I woke it had melted and was damp and the temp was 2C. Wasn't expecting that for sure! Bit of a dud otherwise.
  3. Well we've had another shower this evening, but the really noticiable thing tonight is the black ice which is lethal (I just walked the dog and was sliding all over) and the wind chill which is biting. Someone mentioned the wind chill up over the Peak District, it can be lethal up there when it blows.
  4. Heavy snow here, biggest flakes I have seen in some time but struggling to settle.
  5. I think he means that tonights system has being named. Therefore on Thursday we'll have Storm 'G'.
  6. Bit of snow up at Flash but nothing lower level. Showers have drifted north so far.
  7. I had to de-ice at 2pm which surprised me. Still muddy in waterlogged areas though with the ground not being as firm as I hoped but we have had a lot of rain lately. Wind was biting though, and tonight has been quite gusty with clear skies (unusual to not have cloud with the winds).
  8. Windier than Eleanor here too. Just been on high ground and sustained winds were high with gusts enough to push you, so at least 60mph. Love a good blow!
  9. A sugar coating in Stoke this morning. Looked great as it was fresh and frozen underneath. Potential for the odd shower to crop up from the Cheshire Gap it seems.
  10. This is the scene on the A14 from M6 towards Northampton. Nothing has moved Westbound bar one vehicle. Seems to have had a good dumping there.
  11. Very localised really, whole journey from Stoke to Birmingham and the only sign of snow begins around J1 of the M5. As you head past J2-J3 where it climbs a little, there is several inches.
  12. No covering in Stoke, just rain. Surprised actually, altitude always is good for us and the radar was showing snow but it isn't!
  13. Rain here in Stoke at the moment. The rain only started an hour ago though.
  14. Very noticeable height factor in today's snow and ice. In Hanley no ice and snow, 1/2 mile the slush was evident on the road and as you approached Brown Edge there was full snow cover. Climbing up onto the tops they had a mini blizzard in the morning which dumped a few CM so a very wintery scene in thick fog.
  15. This morning was a bit of a surprise, but the snow that fell was rock solid and sheets of ice on the road. Stoke was gridlocked again.I drove into the Moorlands and roads were white over but passable. Few inches up there. Even the gritter got stuck though!
  16. Lived here 10 years now and it has snowed several times each year (even during the crap winters). And besides if it doesn't snow, I only drive 15 minutes to be in snow by Leek usually or the Moorlands. Back in Birmingham it always felt more like a once every few years event
  17. Stopped here. Slight thaw setting in but the wind picked up and is cold. Roads weren't gritted tonight so bit slippy.
  18. Hammering down here, very fast accumulation. The irony that most of the snow melt took place today too. In a panic people all starting moving there cars off driveways onto the road (which bugs me as they become a hazard on narrow streets). Radar looks good for an hour anyway
  19. Indeed, shame. Though since we did actually have snow Thursday night into Friday lying on the ground, I'll take that 5 days of lying snow. I'm sure some will survive this but it'll turn to a slushy mess so I don't count it once rain has fallen.
  20. It is indeed raining here, temperatue feels above freezing too. The end is nigh for this snow cover.
  21. No snow melt here in Stoke today which is great but noticed snow melt in Birmingham where it was warmer. Still nice and fluffy especially over the fields. Temp was -1C around 3pm.
  22. That is a shame, the air was colder up north though I guess. Anyway, I had a -8C when I left north of Stoke this morning (quite close to rural fields), and the temp was bouncing around in the car down the M6, in freezing fog it was -7C and then it would rise to -3C.
  23. That is a shame, the air was colder up north though I guess. Anyway, I had a -8C when I left north of Stoke this morning (quite close to rural fields), and the temp was bouncing around in the car down the M6, in freezing fog it was -7C and then it would rise to -3C.
  24. I don't get this theory at all. This type of snow is very powdery. Infact it is probably the nicest snow I've seen before. You can barely make a ball shape out of it and its like icing sugar to kick. Where the cars have compressed the snow down, the roads are fine. Paths are also not slippy either. However, the problem areas are where people used stuff to try and melt it and its refrozen. Now that is dangerous! Anyway, a fantastic day, felt like the Alps earlier down in Quinton. And although the snow isn't as deep up here, there has been zero melt today (unlike Friday/Sat when it was melting quickly). Perfect weather. One more day of this before the gunk maybe?
