It’s amazing that there have been 176 new posts in the MOD thread since I looked at it this morning. Anyone would think that it was due to snow everywhere in the UK tomorrow, but all the discussion relates to possible weather outcomes in 10 days or more. If we DO get any snow in December the site will probably overheat, and if we get a white Christmas….well, it’ll be a meltdown!

Plenty of flashes in the night sky to the north east - looks like a storm over Llanwrtyd maybe? What a funny old day.

Thought I would try and capture the squall as it passed over here but I cant upload the time-lapse right now due to slow internet speed… I’ll try to get it posted later if I can but the intensity of the rain was quite something for a few minutes. There was also a couple of local lightning strikes and loud thunder but it’s all passed away to the east now. This seems like pretty weird weather for late November and although rain is not surprising here, it is the current intensity and repetitive nature of the weather which is unusual.

Thunder and lightning over western Pembrokeshire headed this way accompanied by heavy rain……. A decent squall line formed and could be interesting.

Golly! Nothing here earlier but rain and more rain. Dry now, temps dropping. Looks like we will all be under swirling rain, rain, rain wind tomorrow.
Swirling rain and wind is right! Heavy rain and gusty winds here and there’s a squall line approaching which looks interesting…. After that I’m hoping it will calm down for the rest of the day with maybe some brightness later.

A date to remember - the first frost of the season this morning! Better late than never…..
-
A bright start then showery for a while this morning….

Cloudy and mild again this morning but it’s not raining! Currently there’s hardly any sign of widespread ground frost occurring in Wales right through to the end of November according to the computer models, which won’t please the diehard coldies but, this year at least, given the current cost of heating oil I’m not going to complain about mild conditions persisting right through till Christmas…...

Quite windy, but mild here. Have heard things a clattering outside. Looking at radar, squall line has not hit us yet. Hope you are ok.
Thanks! Last year I would have been a bit panicky with such heavy rain because the roof was leaking but I had it repaired this summer, at long last! Went up to the loft during the downpour and everything seems dry, but it was noisy! It’s definitely quieter now and I’m not sure whether the squall will still have its vigour when it reaches you but the wind could be strong so don’t leave anything lightweight outside ……. And yes it also feels mild here, too.

Another lovely start to the day here - sunny and calm with light clouds - and there is NO RAIN in the forecast for today! The hosepipe ban was lifted here about a week ago as the water in the Llys-y-Fran reservoir has reached normal levels for the time of year. I’m not at all surprised by that given the amount of rain we had last month. The local starling flock is growing and it looks like we might be treated to our own murmurations later in the season. I’ll try to get some photos if possible.

Comparing three of the models at +240h shows a surprising level of agreement given the ten day evolution from this morning:
500hPa 850hPaGEM.
The uppers shown by the GEM over most of the UK are amazing for mid November and would provide some pretty mild temperatures. At least it could save people a lot of money by keeping central heating boilers off for longer than usual…?- 12

One of the many things I love about Pembrokeshire is how rapidly the weather can change. This morning it’s completely different - hardly any breeze, not enough to move even the smallest leaves. There are some distant clouds visible on the south-eastern horizon but otherwise it’s dry and clear as the sun is about to rise. Looks like it could be a very nice autumn morning but it is noticeably cooler than recently, which is a good thing because many of the plants appear to have been fooled into thinking it might be Spring again! At least the gales haven’t left any damage behind but I’m guessing this won’t be the last very windy day we get before Christmas….!

Strewth! A veritable howling wind and heavy gusts have put paid to walking the dog Norman on the tops. He is distinctly unimpressed with my wimpishness but as his human has just had her bedroom window ripped off in a strong gust, I didn’t want to be Defenestrated, a la Damien, by any other exploding windows or felled by falling branches.
That sounds nasty - I hope you can quickly get it repaired! Strongest gusts recorded today for Welsh locations so far courtesy of NW:
Aberdaron 72 mph
Capel Curig 71 mph
Valley 68 mph
Pembrey Sands 64 mph
Aberporth / Mumbles Head 60 mph
These are significant gusts with the ability to cause damage. We’ve also had heavy rain here but now seems to be easing up a little. It also feels colder and I’ve got the log burner going for the first time this autumn.

As forecast, it’s very windy here! As I write this the skies have darkened rapidly and it’s just started raining. Hopefully the winds will ease this afternoon and the worst of the rain will stay out in the Irish Sea…..
-
Having looked around at forecast wind speeds tomorrow, it seems that my location is at risk of the highest gusts at up to 65mph. Most other locations in west Wales including coastal areas are only forecast to get 55mph gusts as far as I can see….. Must be the effect of the Preseli hills, or simply elevation, I’m not too sure, but there goes the last of the autumn leaves….

Last nights low pressure was been named by MeteoFrance and the worst weather affected the north of France, but we had a very wet and windy night here too. More heavy showers today and another windy day on Wednesday to come.
Storm Claudio gales in the Channel before a midweek Low arrives for the UK
WWW.NETWEATHER.TVStorm (Tempete) Claudio has been named by MeteoFrance and will bring a windy night through the English Channel. Another low mid-week will bring more rain and the risk... -
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of high winds for parts of Wales on Wednesday. Mainly western coastal areas with gusts between 55 and 65mph forecast, but all areas will be windy on Wednesday. Can’t seem to get a link embedded but just go to the MetO website for details….

Cold and dry with some fog - perfect for December! So I’m looking forward to that easterly which usually brings drier, calmer weather for me. I am fed up with these bands of intense rain followed by frequent hefty showers barrelling in off the Irish Sea!
