  1. Well according to what the weather presenter said on news24 earlier I'd forget about snow anywhere at the end of this coming week as she mentioned a very short cold snap with mild wet and windy weather spreading in at the end of the week!Talk about conflicting signals, that comment certainly doesn't match what some of the models have been showing for the end of the week, unless perhaps some of the models only the uk met get to see are showing something completely different!

Didn't Fergieweather say a few days ago that they had high confidence in a return to westerlies at day 10 which would have been for about next weekend, probably down to mogreps would be my guess.

  2. Here's a couple of more irritating things you hear....

"Its not been a mild winter"....erm +2.4c above average January (so far) following an above average December! Good job its not mild then eh?

"Saving on heating bills"....hmmm losing money on replacing ridge tiles...repairing roof leaks from the insane rainy spells...replacing damaged fence panels...so sort of cancels that one out.

Agree with the bit about the mild winter but millions will have saved on heating bills without the other problems you mentioned.

  3. Gorgeous sunny day for once, not a cloud in sight Posted Image! already close to 8c though and with the chart's as bland as ever this winter is now nearing the point of no return currently standing by a clear mile as the worst in my two decades living memory even beating the iconically poor 2007/2008 by a long shot which had already had 10 days of sub 5c maxima by this point, compared with zero this winter mostly from that faux cold high from 13-21st December.

Bet you won't get many sunny days in summer when they are worthwhile.

  4. As we are on the topic of BBC forecasts is there usually this much uncertainty past 5 days in the possible minimum/maximum temperatures? For my location there there is a difference of 10 degrees between possible minimum and maximum temps for Friday and the same for the following week. Surely the BBC forecast isn't usually so non-committal and must reflect the current uncertainty that exists despite some advocating a certain continuation of Atlantic dominance. If it is always like that at day 6 I apologise for this post.

    It is.

I only really replied to this as I think it is weird why you become a teapot.

  5. Feels like I live in a different universe when I read the model output thread sometimes. Maybe the people there are smarter/know more than me and can see something I can't because I see nowt significant to get excited about as far as the eye can see. With the usual caveats that things can always change quickly/unexpectedy.

    Pfft.

The thing is that some of the better posters are highlighting what could happen and the less informed take it that it will happen, hence the disappointment which occurs all the time.

  6. Wow, some are saying NOT especially mild?  In S Lakes, av Jan temp is about 6oC - every day execpt 12th has reached 6oC.  How about December?  Mean maximum at my site is 6.6 oC, so how many days didn't reach that?  None!  Mean max in December of 9.3 oC and no air frosts - this is the first time this has happened in my 36 years of observation!!  Only 3 air frosts to date, all in November. 13 days with a max above 10oC.  This is verging on the extraordinary!

Some people on here just like to argue and be very pedantic, one bloke was even saying that 2c+ above average isn't mild here and used -48 and -50 in the arctic as an example, you will get used to it if you bother to stick around.

  7. Whys the banter been removed I thought it was funny???????

Anyway my first air frost is a knife edge I suspect we won't get one. As for Snow no sign of any next week either.

Bad news for Gardeners all the pests will be nice and happy with this mild rubbish it's going to be a slug rampage this spring and if a wet summer well say no more.

Agreed mate, just a bit of good natured banter, a bit of over moderation I think.

And to whichever person who reported me I am not a previously banned member.
