Nice to see this forum picking up with snow reports. Enjoy it if you have some in your area. London grey and cold currently and radar watching does show some ppn heading to the centre from the east. not sure it will be snow over the city though

Did you spend 15 years reading the MOD thread
I manage about 15 minutes at a time before my head explodes with all the data/see-sawing/contradictions/outrageousness and plain stupidity of some people.ย ย

And in all that time i have seen too many posts promising weather in winter that never materialised.ย

Just realised, its my 19th year on NW today
I would have joined NW from day one, but went for a while with no internet back in those days so waited until upgrades before signing up.ย
How many ex-snow watchers still here?

the band of snow seems to be tracking just below the M25, as if its scared to cross the southernmost part of the motorway.ย

Nice! Iโm at work in London office next week and should be able to see it if I go up the top (Gherkin)ย
Nothing here, just grey and coldish at 4c
personally i think it looks better from the street level, just that its higher up and a bit further away. My office windows overlook it great though.

That's more like it! thick frost and fog too. a froggy morning here in SE18.
loving the shard lights this yearย

I totally get that everyone is entitled to their opinion however right or wrong it may be. But ever since it started back in the year dot i will never understand how one word posts inform anyone of the weather .... boom!ย

Managed a little walk this evening and seeing the pretty frost patterns forming on cars. Little pleasures!
funny that, because i went for a walk around 1800 and frost was on the cars. took daughter to footy training at 2000 and no frost. but still dead clear here in se18. hate it when it looks like a nice frost forming and then disappears ย

I love a good trend, flares, platform shoes, DA haircuts, and on and on ....... ย

as ever in these kind of situations.... confusion abounds.

Darren Bett pretty much dismissed any chance of snow down south. Maybe some for the top of hills on Dartmoor, but other than that dry and cooler than average.
He has been very underwhelming these last few days with his forecasts. That said; I think he is pretty right about any ppn so like him or not the forecast he is presenting is possibly correct.

I was trying to visualise that, as it didn't look familiar at all. As I spent 8 years in London by Lambeth Bridge I was a bit puzzled. And then it came to me - I hardly ever went across the bridge to the north; I always used Westminster Bridge! I had to check it on Google Streetview.
So you were lambeth palace side where the fire brigade hq is and international maritime org.

So nothing like 2nd/3rd Feb 2009 then ย
But, as i have felt all along with this current setup. PPN will be minimum, it's all about the cold this time round i think.

The news is that the Indian Tunnel collapse people my be extracted today
QuoteOfficials say the plan is to send stretchers that have ropes and wheels attached to them inside the micro-tunnel created for the workers to get out.
The trapped men will lie down on the stretchers and rescuers will pull them out of the tunnel one by one.
I just have the theme music for "the great escape" in my head now ย ย

on another note. the famous palm tree located on the roundabout at lambeth bridge is getting uprooted and moved. some may recognize it from a harry potter film as the bus crosses lambeth bridge. will be a shame to not see it there as i walk to work every day, it is being replanted to make way for good old cycle lanes at the roundabout . I wonder if the new lanes will get as much an ignoring as the ones round london most of the time do?ย

So, where are we now? Seems the cold is setting in with little or no precipitation for most. Possible showers coming in off the east coast for the build up of streamers, however, i think it quite unlikely it will be no more than showers and nothing disruptive.ย
Either way, we are still not in December, it's winter, it's getting cold and there is chances of some decent frosts.ย
elevenses coffee anyone?ย ย

So long as people don't start talking about Grebe's (old bbc snow watch members will know what i mean)ย

there's even a mention of freezing rain. That's worse than snow in my books. hits the floor and freezes. reckon a few sunday shoppers will be knocking into other cars if it happens. and a few slips and stumbles too
