87?? I am just at the top of that patch of purple... already there is a tree down the other side of town and it isn't THAT windy. I hope that doesn't come to pass.

Thank goodness it's not bin-day... might have a walk down to the seafront in the morning. :)

I asked Met Office Press office about this

"Name our Storms is a pilot project between the Met Office and Met Eireann, as such parts of it are likely to change as the project develops. This was initially going to be an Autumn and Winter 2015/16 project. However, the exact end date has not been decided and so we will continue to name storms for the time being at least.

Even if we decide to continue the project through spring and summer, we will start again from A when we get to Autumn. Chances are we won’t reach Wendy, but it we do a decision will be made then what the following names will be, whether we go back to A or use the Greek alphabet as used in other naming series."

Ah, I see. :) Thank you, Jo. :)

  4. I'm confused... I thought the naming was for the storms during Autumn and Winter, and correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't today the start of meteorological Spring? *confused look*

Although, saying that, I do enjoy a good storm - I've still not got over how amazing the seafront was from Imogen.

  5. Just walked along the seawalk (if you know Weston-super-Mare, then the (exposed) walk way along the coast as if you were walking towards Birnbeck Pier) and my god, some of the gusts were like an invisible hand moving me like a chess piece. I'm not out with any equipment, so can't get a proper reading for you, but as a normal evaluation: It's bloody windy. Oh and the waves (coming in) look fierce. :)

  6. 1500 - Shannon - Wind: 55.2mph (up 2.3mph) Gust: 76.0mph (up 2.4mph)

Damn. I knew I should have brought my anemometer with me to work. I was going to walk down the sea front on the way home and see what speeds we can get up to. Starting to get rather gusty here. X

I'll be down the seafront later on too, should be interesting. :)

  7. Two METAR readings, both from RAF Valley on Anglesey, Wales at 16:50 and 17:05 (BST) this afternoon, have flagged up an FC (Funnel Cloud/Tornado/WaterSpout)

Can't see anything mentioned throughout Twitter in that region though. :/

    METAR

  8. What does all this indicate?

Is their a key available anywhere?

I'm sure I knew once, but now over 50 and my grey matter unfortunately has been overtaken by my grey hair!!

Whoops, sorry. I was referring to the FC section of the METAR strings (FC = Funnel Cloud/Tornado/Waterspout)

Top string was reported at 10:50(GMT) [11:50(BST)], bottom one at 13:50(GMT) [14:50(BST)]

Both from EGNS, which is the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) airport code for Ronaldsway Airport, Isle of Man.

There's a free online METAR decoder here, which will show you more information when you paste the string in to it and press the "Decode" button. :)

  9. Just looking at the METAR stuff I archive and noticed these two from EGNS (Isle of Man) on Friday.

    EGNS 241050Z 07008KT 9999 FC SCT020CB 14/10 Q1012 NOSIG

    EGNS 241350Z 08007KT 050V110 9999 -SHRA FC SCT025TCU BKN046 14/09 Q1012 NOSIG

I haven't seen anything else mentioned about it (either on here or a few other sites - unless I've missed it) ... would've been nice to have seen if anyone did see anything themselves.
