  1. Yes indeed. Looks like the beeb/metogroup may have been right all along. Which,to be fair,is good to know for the future.
  2. Yes,looking like a bit of a non event for most of the region now, amazing changes in forecast over the last day. Shame really. Maybe it was being too hyped for too long anyway.
  3. Yes,exactly right. And if folk aren't happy with an outlook like that if its snow they are aftet then I think they should take up another hobby.NO forecast is going to say tbete will ne six inches of snow on your truffle patch next Tuesday at 3.05pm !!!! Best outlook I can ever recall, way better than 2010. About the Apps debate,John Hammond( who I think knows a bit more than us about these things) specifically said in his video blog the other night,do NOT pay attention to apps in convective/ unstable situatioms like the one forecast for next week, tbey just cant handle it. Oh and i cant help get the feeling there are some, how shall I put it,wind up merchants,on here today.Pay no heed to them.
  4. I recall the feb 2009 snow event wasnt being definitely forecast by the beeb or anyone else till the thurs/friday beforehand. Snow showers were forecast for the following Sunday and Monday, well we all remember what happened,10 inches here!! Worth noting that they were more concerned about an area of snow moving up from france on the monday evening, never actually happened. I also remember the huge dump of snow in Hampshire/Berks/Surrey in Jan 2010,that only popped up in the forecast about 12 hours beforehand. Small features can make all the difference in very cold weather. And looking at the outlook from met office( wouldn't pay much heed to tv anymore) who have been more or less spot on for the last year or more with their outlooks,we are in for some fun and games! Exactly where, when and how much snow, who knows? Just sit back, relax, and watch it unfold.
  5. Yes,could'nt agree more.Lets wait a day or two and see if Meto firms up on it.They seem confident though. I ll always remember the mad thread in mid December 2010. It were about -3c outsde during the day,the SE was about to get a good dollop of snow( and we did for a cjange) and the rows and arguements in the mad thread were amazing.Quite sad imho.Hanging on every run, chart and 'background signal'!!Really?!?!!
  6. Yes,i agree.very rarely seen a forecast like that. Probably won't satisfy the so called experts on the MAD thread who ate probably trawling through every run to pick out a downgrade. I definitely think we are going to see some severe winter weather in next 10 days.
  7. I must tune in to the Beeb's Weather for the Week Ahead later.First time in ages.See what their take is on things though I dare say it ll be their usual incisive and analytical "Wettest in NW Driest in SE" affair.
  8. Enjoy Prague mate, great city. Interesting you say its 2c there.I have always said we cannot expext anything too spectacular here in SE if temps ate above freezing on mainland Europe in early February. Most of Europe apart from scandanavia above freezing.
  9. 12.4c at 7am I've seen lower early morning temperatures in summer Bonkers but saves on heating i suppose this boring weather. May liven up later mind!
  10. Yup,pretty viscous shower here in Wimbledon about hour ago. I checked the met forecast earlier when it said dry, breezy and sunny spells so headed indoors thankfully.
  11. Yes,that's certainly true! Good job that storm didnt hit during the day. Someone screwed up somewhere.
  12. They must be delighted in the met office today. It has been decided by Netweather that on the 18 January that winter is over,so there's no need for them to do ought else until the end if March. Switch off the super computers and grab your coats lads and go home because there's nought else to do for the next 10 weeks.Just issue one forecast "mild, breezy with some rain" and that will do till end if March. There will be no more winter this year. What utter utter nonsense!!!!!! B-) B-)
  13. Yes,agree with that. These warnings are becoming far too common. It will soon reach the stage where nobody will pay any attention to them. Another quite chilly morning in SW19, nought to be concerned about. There's still the best chunk of winter left to deal us up something interesting. Wouldn't pay much or any attention to models and the 'experts' who interpret them. They couldn't predict a pint in a pub.
  14. Cheers for that mate, will be good reading that in detail later. B-)
  15. I take great pleasure in reading the historical Met Office monthly reports on their site, really interesting. What you see there is that all through the last century there were lengthy periods when there were no noteworthy snow events( especially down here) and on numerous occasions a mild wet month can be followed by a cold snowy one. If extremely cold snowy winters were so common in the past then how come we just hear about 1947/1963/1979.I ll leave out 2010 as it was a one week wonder here! Truth is,they wer'nt that common at all.
  16. Why are folk obsessed about easterlies on the other thread. Even if we get one,and we probably won't anyway, have they not seen the temps on mainland and in eastern Europe?? Even Warsaw and Moscow are above freezing!!
  17. Oooh lucky you, went there about 10 years ago for a week in early January,oh jeeez it was cold and lots of snow,Ottowa aswell, frozen river( canal?) I always remember they said they were having a cold snap at the time -20c !! Great city Montreal, whatever the weather. Enjoy!!
  18. That '10 day trend' video on Met Office site is great. Saves wading through the tantrums and tiaras posts on the mad thread. No snow on the horizon unfortunately but some wild Atlantic storms going to visit us for some considerable time. Howling wind and rain, good cloudscapes, and maybe even a bit of thunder. Proper weather!! Bad news for those on here who are afraid of getting wet.??
  19. Looking great for period between Christmas and New Year, plenty of wind and rain and maybe even a storm or two. At least it ll get rid of the grey rubbish we now have here now. Love looking at the radar seeing rain appriach and the wind picking up. I know that doesnt fit the narrative on this site with its obsession with dry and snow( however that works!!) Wet stormy weather is actually a bit of a novelty down here. Snow even more so but as I said a few weeks ago, with a more mobile pattern, anything can happen. They still live in hope of an eastetly over on the mad thread! Have they seen the temperatures to our east??? I wonder about folk there sometimes, someone on there a few days ago wanted to know if a euro slug high would give us an easterly in the UK?!?!!
  20. Well I'm all for wind, gales, rain, anything but this cold rubbish. Looks like nowhere in Europe is going to have much if any snow over Christmas even the places in central eastern Europe where you would expect it. So,if we ain't going to have snow then bring on the storms,at least it's real weather. Is that not why we are on here..??
  21. Hands up who has ever seen such a gibberish Met Outlook for next week. Talk about not having a clue! :))
  22. I think it says they haven't a clue what's going to happen. I ve never read such a gibberish outlook. They just don't know, which makes it all the mirer interesting.
  23. There are alot of them but........ Baby steps Building blocks NW/SE split Faux cold would be well up the list!
  24. Brilliant!!! Yes,I've never read such rubbish on here before as today's weeping and nashing if teeth. Leaves are still on trees diwn here!
  25. Not a bad outlook from the met, they are the experts after all. Getting more mobile, all we need now is the jet to go a but further south and you never know what one of those LPs could drag in behind it. Never really that good for us down here but can throw up a few surprises. Still going for cold too. I for one am pleased as long as that bloody HP to our SW is kept at bay.As long as it is then anything can happen,at quite short notice too! Relying on Hp as a conduit for proper cold in these islands is far too messy and complicated. Never goes to plan.
