  1. Brightened up here now and we have our first 16C of Spring. Managed to stay just north of the showers so far.
  2. Not had a second of sunshine yet. At least it's not cold, but already it's another overhyped warm spell.
  3. Cleared up in the last hour and a half and we finally have an average late Spring day at 15C
  4. I'm legitimately jealous of the spot that's hit 18C. With normal fluctuations around the average of 13-15 it 18C should have been hit at least 10 times in a normal year.
  5. A few breaks in the cloud and we've managed to hit double figures at 10C, making this one of the top 5 days of the Spring so far.
  6. Yes people say it was wasted but imagine going through that 1st lockdown with this year's Spring climate.
  7. Same story as usual, better off going to Greece for snow in winter and Lapland for sun and warmth in summer. Genuinely hate our climate.
  8. It's been like this for weeks and of course it's always turned out to be correct. Another warm settled spell disappears in front of us. Praying GFS has overreacted to a fading signal regarding northern blocking as we finally begin to lose the negative NAM at the surface.
  9. April isn't out yet but Sheffield is in the 130-150% zone for March's rainfall anomaly. It has been wetter and duller than average. Fact.
  10. Just looking at March and the data conflicting with how many of us have felt. It turns out night time minimum temperatures have been inflating the CET. Obviously most people aren't awake to feel the temperature overnight, but the relevant stats, the temperatures we can actually experience when we are awake and out and about, show that we have not been going crazy imagining how rubbish it has been. Compared to the 30 year era we have most recently lived through, maximum temperatures were near or below average for most. But the stats people will remember are a significantly above average CET (+1.4) when compared to an era 70-40 years ago.
  11. Nope would just like my first 16C of the Spring.
  12. I wish Met Office would start using 1981-2010 for CET comparisons. The only thing more depressing than the weather is the constant gaslighting that akshually it's been a mild spring. No it hasn't, it's been cool, damp and miserable. End of.
  13. Yeah while we didn't get the warm spell we were promised by the met office at least the worst case drizzlefests were avoided.
  14. April is normally a month of contrasts with the UK temperature being very sensitive to slight changes in wind direction compared to other months. Usually we take a few days of highs of 8-10C and then a few days with highs of 18-20C to average out at 14C or so but this month it's been every day being almost exactly average. As we haven't had any of those warm days it's felt like a cold month even though its technically been average.
  15. Sun is out a couple of hours earlier than forecast. Not bad at 14C. Again it's exactly average but even sunny and average has been such a big ask this eternal winter.
  16. My bad only just noticed the thread was about DC. My stats are about Seattle Washington state so point stands worst part of USA is better than the UK average. Seattle has 2200 sunshine hours per year and 3 or 4 rain days per summer month. Far better than UK average.
  17. Quick glance is similar temperatures but far less rain during summer. Only 3/4 rain days per month during summer opposed to 8/9 here. So pretty much the worse place to be in USA for summer beats the UK.
  18. Got some sun coming out now, that's all it takes to turn an average day temperature wise (14C) into a good one.
  19. The UK doesn't have much of a wet-dry season thing going on, but Spring should be the drier of the seasons. Lack of warmth is one thing, it's when it coincides with endless cloud, drizzle and rain when the (justified) complaints start. People have a right to be annoyed by the first 50 or so days of Spring not being warm AND being dull. Also just to add for me personally the 1961-1990 is not relevant as I didn't live through it. The average I've partly lived through is 1981-2010, and compared to that average, this Spring has been below average.
  20. Looks troposphere-lead to me, and early May is not looking too great either with more opportunities for northern blocking.
  21. My thoughts too. Let it warm up another degree or two and then pause it after that, don't reverse. Can't even begin to imagine a Spring a couple of degrees below the 61-90 average.
  22. Finally a dry day with average temperatures. Even such low standards have been almost impossible to meet most of this extended winter.
