Had our first frost here today, it's hard to believe that it's getting rare for any cold weather here.

With the exception of a rain shower overnight yesterday, it's been quite nice over the past few days.
Temperatures have been somewhat on the chilly as of late but it has warmed up a tad today

Has there been any word on Tonga?

The coastal town of Onslow has just equalled the Australian Record Temperature of 50.7 degrees and taking the W.A Record along the way also.
Mardie previously held the W.A record of 50.5 which was set on 19 February 1998.Unreal...

Can confirm that the sun is at long last out, fog has gone, still a bit damp at times though it's nice to see some blue sky.

Fog has lifted...into Mist, and now heavy drizzle falling as the front crosses us, maybe the sun will follow?
Weather has been all over the place this morning, sun attempted to break free, then it's foggy and a bit of mist.
It's a bit brighter here now though!

I can't actually believe it! There's a big ball of shining light trying to come out from the dullness!
Is it the Sun?

Anyone counted the amount of days so far that's it's been gloomy or dull.
Just thinking feels like it's been the most of the year so far.

A boring start to the week, dull and the odd shower or two.

The latest weather model output can be summoned up nicely in a smiley
I suppose really it depends on you're favourite weather, personally if we can't get snow or cold weather, I would love to see some storms in the mix.
Makes a change from being damp and meh weather.

If you thought Friday was bad, today is even worse it's absolutely drenching it down.
About 9c here though.

We just need to get lucky with the synoptics. If we get cold synoptics in winter there will be cold air to tap into.
I always thought as the temperature gradient between the pole and the tropics became less (due to climate change) it would weaken the polar vortex and hence allow more blocking patterns. Haven't seen it yet. Maybe I'm missing other factors.
It's almost that you have to win the lottery just to get a chance, I think climate change is definitely one of the main factors, though there's probably many other factors in play which I don't understand about.
Who knows, maybe next year we might get lucky after all

An hour or so of definite sleet here before it stopped and is now clearing.
Imagine if we actually had some cold air in place ahead of today’s precipitation!
Indeed, imagine it being close to freezing, Cornwall would of had a absolute ton of snow!

Gloriously cold crisp week with some hard night-time frosts, much better than what so many in MOD thread were calling a mild first week to Jan just a few weeks ago.
You just never know what the weather will do one day to the next, there's always a few surprises down the road as they say.
Here in the south west it's currently mild for the time of year, if it's not raining it's usually cloudy or somewhat misty.
Last time I can remember it snowed and it settled on the ground was about 2 or 3 years ago, changing climate or just plain unlucky.

I don't think there's been a single frost day here so far, today though it's actually been chilly partly because of the wind.
Makes a difference from the dull and somewhat warn weather for the time of year.

Jeez looks like a 4 at least.
Quite troubling indeed, video footage and the like seem to be limited, though I did see one video where it blocked out the sun.

Blimey. Just seen the latest GFS output. That 6 run is quite something.
People have every right to talk this down but it must be a long long time since any of us have seen such a potently cold start to winter.
We have to remain cautious, we have seen this all before only to be watered down.
It's something we have seem all to much in recent years.

I don't honestly like the look of the high pressure, though it's not exactly the same time frame it's a concern that we need to watch
Last night's model watching could be summed up as "messey" it's not exactly a clean cut, so hopefully models can correct it today.

Had a frost and it was partly icy this morning.
It felt like winter for the first time in ages.
