  1. River Usk has bursts its Banks in Brecon Storm Dennis strikes with wind and rain WWW.BBC.CO.UK The River Usk bursts its banks at several points in Powys, including Brecon and Crickhowell. here in the valleys, despite the radar showing light rain, it generally looks heavy and being brought in on winds like last week ... just fewer of them
  2. and there are 120km blobs on the coast which is about 80mph,. a lot of us in these regions are well above 10m level too
  3. Ciara brought down a tree in my garden last week as well as half the stone wall that it was inside,. < odd sentence.. but really the tree grew in the wall and both have come down.. On flooding I have photos somewhere of floods going back to 2004/5 Autumn,. there were so many lower pressure systems that the river Ebbw nearly burst it's banks at Crumlin, but the football pitch next to the river was soaked,. - I became interested in the weather because of floods and a huge Thunder storm that occurred over night in the early 2000s not too indifferent to the one just a couple of years ago that came out of France into Plymouth and onto Wales.. - in that time, despite the deluges of rain,. I have only seen very minor flooding of surrounding areas by the river.. but a good number of our rivers are in steep valleys and people just don't build many houses around them. There is always a risk.. 120mm of rain.. falling across very many valleys.. by the time it coms to the River Taff and Usk it could be pretty serious,. - so concern about flooding in those rivers no doubt will be high.. and there are surely a couple of high tides that will not help matters at all. 70mph winds.. could bring down trees that could get trapped behind bridges if in flooded areas,. - mudslides seem to be a common thing too. To make matters worse it rained for a good few hours today and is still raining in the SW of England
  4. looking at 70mph gusts in Wales... and seeing how the winds were advertised as 70-80mph for last weekend.. and there were a couple of 90mph, I wouldn't take anything for granted.~ Most of our towns are in the valleys, flooding isn't such a concern,. but landslides are and the wind can be funnelled up the valleys increasing strength.. so again.. take nothing for granted.
  5. With Storm Ciara there was a mixture of rain hail and thunder,. are we likely to see this again ?
  6. interesting, squall line ? in the Irish sea seems to be active with some sferics
  7. wow if we were only had view of the low pressures from each date you could surely guess they were the same storm on different runs Thanks for posting this !! Much appreciated
  8. Can we possibly get some side by side models of last weekends storm compared to this weekends storm (as it currently stands) ? Really, it looks very powerful,, and I can't see it being treated any less of a threat than the last storm, ~ infact i'd be wanting upgraded warnings, the ground must be absolutely saturated .. and potential partially weakened ground won't hesitate to give way what ever it's holding.
  9. Now the debate about upgrades and downgrades ... including the potential of Friday's storm .. which could come closer to the UK o,o a double battering in Scotland next weekend?
  10. lightning SE 10mins ago,. followed by near monsoon rains... never seen anything like it away from Summer!!
  11. Weather Radar - Live UK Rainfall Radar - 5 Minute Updates - Netweather WWW.NETWEATHER.TV A very clear line forming across Wales, no idea what the winds are like associated with it,. but looks very convective.. amazing how it forms like that
  12. Wow, the rain on the front over North Wales,. it's picking up rapidly .. with lightning strikes amongst it ,. must be hellish up over Snowdon
  13. Keeping up to date on twitter.. - hearing about an injury following a falling tree in Dublin Twitter MOBILE.TWITTER.COM
  14. Take a passport .. just in case you end up in Amsterdam
  15. looks like quite a swathe of 80s on that map with some isolated up to 90mph ~ Does this include the effect of wind tunnels in the Welsh Valleys or in the Cities ?
  16. if something like that pulls off .. more 70-80mph winds o,o with another cannon following it who knows. seems like our version of Americas Hurricane season
  17. metoffice going for frequent snow, lightning and strong winds in the North .. Monday and Tuesday. .. Just put that into context.. if your power goes out on Sunday.. and the weather is as currently forecast.. in addition to the catapult of Low pressures.. which could vary significantly.. and Mondays former low pressure charts are just an example .. of how something so powerful disappeared seemingly in its entirety.. well any way.. it could be days or even a week before power is restored.. - I hope the measures are in place for Scottish and North England Residents.
  18. those whiter areas over the Welsh hills and mountains .. and NW England.. + Swathes of Souther Scotland ,. I remember a forecaster once mentioning when wind is forced through the valleys and hills .. it can speed up .. the hills acting like a funnel .. or us trying to blow air through a straw
  19. Going to be havoc for any mode of transport ,. Expecting to see some severe severed pathing for traffic of all kinds and into the hills and mountains ,. And through the valleys .. the air could really be squeezed to become quite deadly
  20. in regards to such high winds and I believe it’s been said about cold uppers and convective if not snow for the south .. wouldn’t that potentially cause damaging hail flying at us at 100mph ?
  21. quite an aggressive ray of showers, no lightning from them as yet. but i'm sure there is a chance
