  1. I have been trying to work out if there is some sort of dual-track on this storm or is that technically called a convergence .. Running through radar slides for the last hour, I see that the majority of the rain over the South West coast is working its way NNE ~ However, any rain that is over Devon/Somerset seems to have rapid intensification moving Northwards!
  2. Fascinating "cell like" downpour developed near Cardiff ~ I very rarely see that when there is general rain about. This could be quite interesting if there are any more developments like it!
  3. Some nasty looking showers developing off the Southern Welsh coast!
  4. Flash Floods..http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-28713677No telling what Sundays going to be like.. though I have my suspicions.Saturday 4th or 11th June 2009 ~ Low pressure develops over the UK ~ Now if I remember rightly, that was severe and had embedded thunderstorms with it to.
  5. Best wake up from my hibernation and charge my batteries.. for even the slightest chance of catching another lightning bolt will thrill my heart!
  6. Looks like Swindon will have a chance of seeing something shortly if the shower continues to develop!
  7. The radar shows the torrential rain in the same area over Exeter which is racking up to 35 minutes so far ! Flash flooding seems likely 0,o
  8. Well. If we get lightning, i'd like to use the camera to video that.. I tried using the ipad for lightning.. very uncomfortable to hold! so yes, providing I can sort something out for a new camera, i'll get one ! :)Which will result in some higher quality videos.. or dual recording. If the storm doesn't quite develop into a fully fledged lightning bonanza I get on with the time lapses. This time lapse comes in at 2nd best so far.
  9. I made a time lapse as the storm approached Wales! Note, there seems to be some very weak rotation as the towers get closer
  10. Is it possible this could be the same storm the greatly influenced my love for thunderstorms. There was a storm one summer morning. My mother said it was so severe and so dark that I shouldn't go to school this day. I had been up half the night because there had been the most intense electrical storms I had ever seen in my entire life. I saw spider lightning, something I've only seen since, on youtube. Lightning strikes must have been 100 a minute.. from all directions. The school morning came.. things started to get quiet.. but it kept getting darker! Then there was a huge thunderstorm and the rest of the day was quiet with no further storms. The following day while waiting at the bus stop I heard one crack of thunder, but that was it.
  11. This particular storm has not been electrical so far.. there is every chance it could give 1 or 2 sparks, but I don't have much confidence in this one.
  12. Doesn't seem to be very intense according to rain radar.. but looking at it through the window.. it looks amazing!
  13. Nice ~ increasing look of a "line of showers" heading WWNW
  14. It's not unusual to get into the low 20s up until the end of October.. so we have plenty of time to enjoy the heat.. and hopefully storms.. maybe a lightning bolt will melt your satellite for this comment
  15. Some very high temperatures "already" in addition to those towers
  16. The very nature of the weather "unpredictable" is what makes it all the more exciting to keep doing what we love. In a sense we gamble mentally on whether or not the storm will hit us which is shown in our "hyping up" period when huge swathes of CAPE are shown on forecasts.. or ESTOFEX.. TORRO, Metoffice.. BBC.. warns us of severe weather. ~ the cost of our gambling.. sleepless nights.. caffeinated rivers running through our bodies. Earlier in this thread someone posted a video of lightning striking just in front of him. What an incredible thing to capture on video.. I wonder if he was a regular storm nut or just someone who liked that particular storm!? Part of staying up and capturing the perfect video is also gambling. ~ Will the storm hit.. will it sound good.. will something interfere, will the lightning bolts be visible. These things keep me going! So again, looking ahead to this week. Nothing to say we will have anyway near the amount of activity as we did over the last week. The thrill of a chance to catch another storm is enough! Cameras armed, memory cards loaded.. and be ready to shoot!
  17. It's kinda funny. Here we are "mostly unhappy" that the plume left us.. but by tomorrow, we will be frantically checking radars and satellites to speculate what will happen the following day. The fun begins once again. Some summers we are annoyed that the Atlantic has ruined our stormy potentials.. we end up finding we get more thunderstorms in October and December. This year, however.. the ingredients are there for summer storms almost every week!
  18. Well, what does this week have to offer. ~ Plenty of high temperatures! ~ 26-29 may'be. Risk of storms from Wednesday onward with ever increasing risk on each day
  19. Photo from twitter of some lightning a girl shot from her phone ! https://twitter.com/HannahWallerr/status/490886172735193088/photo/1
