  1. Large orange Cb cloud encroaching over the northern horizon but I think it's going to be rain/sleet again as I've still got 2°.
  2. Looks like Whitby is about to get a heavy snow shower (30/45 mins?)
  3. Well the temperature is now 2° in Aberdeen and showers are now falling as rain and sleet. Pretty gutted - snow during the day and sleet at night! 9 times out 10 it's colder at night?!
  4. Well that's interesting because I noticed on ceefax P404 that Lerwick's temperature at 7am was a balmy 4°, so not surprised to hear the snow didn't lie. Anyway for Aberdeen - light, dry snow shower at 7.30 this morning which produced a slight covering/dusting. Heavy snow shower around an hour later giving a further covering which has slowly disintigrated through the afternoon - still some snow in my backgarden though. Dissapointing to see no further snow showers between 9am and now...hopefully some more this evening. Colder again now so would settle no problem.
  5. You'll be lucky to see snow in Arbroath. Gayfield (home to Arbroath FC) is famous for matches not being postponed there as the salt from the sea always keeps their pitch frost free.
  6. Frequent moderate and occasionally heavy snow showers this morning and early afternoon which have died out in recent hours, struggling to lie though at my work (76m) but noticed that Hazlehead (nearer 150m) on the westen area of Aberdeen is white so snow level between 100-150m in NE Scotland at the moment.
  7. I've found over the years that Dundee does much better in easterly setups than Aberdeen. I can think of the weak easterly during late February 2005. Hardly any snow in Aberdeen (bit too mild) but from Stonehaven to Perth it was white and noticeably colder in Dundee when I got off the train. So forget about Monday/Tuesday for snow (that's for me and Viking only! lol) and look forward to Thu/Fri!
  8. Some snow showerws here Mon/Tue I'd say but Thu/Fri looks exciting for eastern Scotland should this continental SE'ly come off - fingers crossed!
  9. Well my area has the potential for a decent snow event week - snow showers Monday & Tuesday but I wonder if there's a risk that the slow moving occluded front which is forecasted to arrive on Thursday will stall and give significant snowfall across northern parts. A high seems to build over Scandinavis too which gives us a strong SE'ly! There's a risk that somewhere could get buried - what d'ya think???
  10. Well Monday night was good with some moderate snow showers depositing 1", most of which thawed through Tuesday. Just thin patches remain in favourable areas throughout the city. Not a great Northerly at all IMO.
  11. Forgot to mention this yesterday - some light snow for a time here before it tuned to rain mid afternoon
  12. A lot of people in Aberdeen would've missed it but there was a brief flurry of snow here around 1.15pm today. My work at Altens is 75m asl.
  13. Yeah it's looking good now. Some prolonged snowfall in Aberdeen now. Moderate snow since 9pm and still falling, slight accumulations starting to deepen.
  14. Only brief light snow showers through the day which obviously didn't lie. But currently in a moderate snow shower which is lying on all surfaces as the temperature is now down 0°. Looking at the latest radar images shower activity seems to be pepping up to the north of Scotland so hopefully some accumulations by morning.
  15. Yeah we had that hail shower although I'm a bit dissapointed we're not getting some proper snow now considering we had some wet snow at 11.30 this morning when the cold air was only just beginning to dig in.
  16. So do you think there's a chance of polar low development this week which could filter down on this Northerly and affect Northern Scotland???
  17. Where's that picture? Looks like the fields just before Kingswells? Yeah wet snow falling here just before noon, should start to lie by this evening.
  18. All this wintriness is a little surprising to me - clear skies and 2° here at the moment but doesn't really feel cold enough for snow. A bit of a wind now too.
  19. From Wednesday onwards it looks like the Ski resorts are gonna get buried in snow.
  20. Good topic this. I think September should be classed as a Summer month but March should still probably stay as Spring, although Winter's have been at their most severe later on in the Winter in recent years, 14" of snow in Aberdeen last March for example. The seasons definitely seem to coming 'later'.
  21. Hi Julie - I'm surprised your garden has been recording lower temperatures than Dyce. My current temperature (West End) is 1.9° whereas Weather Online have it at -0.7°. With these relentless freezing temperatures I think we could be in for a below average month. Any pictures of the River Dee lately? I would say ice build up is a possiblity down there now?
  22. It will interesting to see Aberdeen's averege temperature for December. During the past week or so, it seems Aberdeen's temperature has been several degrees lower than everywhere in the UK. In fact, apart from yesteday evening, the temperature seems to have been either freezing or below for about a week now! The frost has hardly lifted here for about 10 days in a row now.
  23. I was just wondering if someone could tell me if there was snow in Aberdeen on Christmas day 1976. Just a day or so prior to Christmas a Greenland high shows signs of developing. By looking at the chart, it looks like cold, crisp sunny conditions with some light flurries. I wonder if anyone can confirm this?
  24. Here's a question - Should hail actually count as wintry precipitation when you can get it at anytime of year - even at the height of summer?
