  1. Av already bought approximately 1 tonne of grit so am sorry to tell you but you’re wrong. If I can’t build an igloo then I had a nice life I’ve told the gf ‘you’re getting over 6 inches, she’s incredibly excited (doesn’t normally like snow... strange) If it all goes wrong i’ll just take a page from the Neil Lennon handbook (Please watch Limmy’s recent vid - i’d get in trouble if I linked it) succinctly: Don’t back down... double down
  2. Yes, this surprises me. Fingers crossed for those further east, I think overnight conditions will improve for the Eastern contingent but a non-event for here. Currently 0.5c and moderate rain, fair bit of ice about
  3. Cracking pics in this thread today! A sprinkling to wake up to, already a couple below freezing. Shame it’s to end but been a good spell of cold weather. 2 week duration, fantastic sunny days, minimal thaw (helped by the weak sun) and snow has fallen in almost all corners of the country (pretty rare). Haven’t read the MOD yet but seems like we’re in the race for deeper cold... Got the Merrick (843m asl) ticked off today as per below: BITTER cold at the top due to a keen wind. Windchill must have been -15c, was painful Lovely views of Ailsa Craig (3rd from bottom), Isle of man, Southern uplands, the hills of Arran etc. Not sure how far North could be seen, certainly up other hills I’m certain i’ve seen the Ochils. In summer on the Donalds beside the Grey Mare’s tail I saw Arthur’s seat etc. The prints in the snow in the 3rd pic (from top) are that of Deer - they roam quite freely in the Galloway forest. 4. I think all seasons sound the best. I’m only contemplating this after becoming ever more keen for winter hill walking etc. My commute is 55 miles each way (this will hopefully reduce but i’m 3 years in at this point) on A75 so no need. I can get from A to B rather quickly However there’s no way i’m getting anywhere with elevation with the current tyres.
  5. Do you feel our typical winter justifies it? Suppose it depends on price etc but certainly would be keen to chuck those on the Leon
  6. Appreciate the reply, yes winter tyres could well be an alternative. Luckily got access to a landrover defender for planned trips. Nothing worse than the car in front heavy braking/panicking. I just ask as this car with bigger engine and higher gearing (ie stalls if you put it in second below 10 mph, 80mph is below 2000 rpm) is garbage in the snow. I’m technically a ‘professional’ driver and could not keep up with my pal who’s a teacher driving his wee renault Clio. Car was bambi on ice, Winter tyres it is
  7. Random question but take it you have a nice 4x4 of some kind to live up there? Each winter I start to convince myself I could own a Hilux/L200/Nivara etc but at 20,000 miles a year the fuel would bury me. My seat leon is shocking on roads like that
  8. About 1cm of snow down in the town centre which is no mean feat! The first for nearly 3 years Shall try and get better pics later on, enjoy what’s left of the cold everyone!
  9. Cracking day here, max of 3c. Was passing by Loch Ettrick today (900 ft asl) and people were ice skating (see video below) Friends were climbing a hill nearby (i’ll leave details sketchy due to the covid Police), looked like it was a great day for them. Truly sublime conditions with minimal wind. Snow was apparently knee deep at the top. Exceptional 360 views at the summit as per video (so they tell/sent me) FullSizeRender.mov IMG_2520.MOV
  10. Cracking pics today! Jealous Sadly nothing down here so went up the local hill (580m ish): 360 views of the Galloway hills/South Ayrshire, Southern uplands, Moffat hills, Borders, NW England (Scarfell Pike) - covered in cloud today, and the Isle of Man Last two pics were taken yesterday on a better camera of a wild 14 year old collie that longs to live in Siberia
  11. Apparently Snow out west in Galloway but only a sprinkling this morning in Dumfries. Took a trip up to Narnia (aka Leadhills/Wanlockhead) through the Mennock pass and back down the Dalveen via Elvanfoot. Have a burning desire to get to the Lowther hill radar station but shall leave that for another day this winter. FullSizeRender.mov
  12. My best pal stole my idea and headed up there this morning, this video is the road to Wanlockhead FullSizeRender.mov
  13. 3c here, sadly no lying snow down here with the solway affect. Sleet forecast overnight, the plan will be to head up the A76 to the Dalveen pass and see how snowy it is up there. Can see the white hills of the Southern uplands. It may be too snowy for my car M74 at Abington and Beattock summit was down to one lane this morning, Winter has arrived!!
  14. 13th - 18th of this month we have recorded, according to SEPA statistics of nearest weather station, over 125mm of rain. More rain today... wonderful Please Santa, give us Cold, dry, crisp sunshine and maybe just maybe some snow!
  15. Agreed, although I have a flat in the town I go back home almost daily to help bring the horses in as it’s become such a slog through the mud. Hard to walk through the worst parts Fingers crossed we get the colder spell that the models seem to be hinting at for around 10 days time
  16. Nearest SEPA weather station has recorded 45.4mm in the last 36 hours. River has burst its banks. No other words needed.
  17. Been pretty dry here the last few days (not totally surprisingly given wind direction) but the year as a whole has been pretty wet compared to those in the East
  18. Can confirm that wind is baltic when you walk out the gym in a t-shirt and shorts! Car saying 8c however. I hope we get a taste of winter before too long, the rain is depressing
  19. Gorgeous day, hit 24.1c in the sunshine about 2pm. Felt humid. Now cloudy and cooler with the wind picking up. Been a much warmer few weeks which has been welcome.
  20. Crazy storms seen in the last couple days, great photos and vids on here. The last very very warm day, max of 29c (at my unofficial temp gauge) and humidity making that feel intense. Was not comfortable to wear uniform for work in. Tomorrow more like the low 20s, perhaps mid 20s at work in the far SW. The sun is certainly lower in the sky these days
  21. Currently 27c here, getting uncomfortable. Muggy. Tomorrow may go 1/2c higher still
  22. Yeah I jinxed it. My power is off and the lightning has arrived albeit a fair distance away for now
  23. Those storms look to be dying a death when I ‘animate’ it on the netweather radar but we shall see
  24. Could be a direct hit down here later on. I love storms but sadly the animals do not so bit of a double edged sword. Very muggy today, already approaching 22c
  25. Vile, so so wet (nearest station is at 33mm in last 36 hours) Nightshift this evening and confirm it feels very autumnal. Looks like it’ll relax midweek and hopefully we move into a warmer pattern thereafter
