  1. Not sure what this ‘cloud’ thing is you lot speak of. I only recognise a burning yellow ball of destruction which has the laser beam turned up to maximum. Currently 26.4c, feeling hot.
  2. The sky has been such a lovely Blue colour the last few days. Temperature is currently 30.5c, not oppressive but too hot to do much in. Second warmest temperature i’ve recorded here since we moved in during 2008. The warmest being last month of course. Tomorrow looks like it will beat today’s temperatures, temps on the Wunderground site show where the hot spots are. EDIT - 32.0c on the button now. 0.4c below July’s peak so tomorrow we could breach it. Crazy given how much less daylight we have now but it’s been building for days
  3. Yesterday exceeded 28c and today is looking even hotter. Already touching 27c, sun is relentless at the moment although i’ve found sleeping in it to be relatively easy. Looking forward to some thunderstorms but first we should break 30c.
  4. I live a fair way North and West of you and whilst you’re correct we’re a long way from drought, we do need rain. June was below average, July was 50% of average and August needs 90mm to reach average (March and April were below average after a very wet February). Most streams have dried up. Silage yields will be lean without some rain, Barley is gonna be 3/4 weeks early. No I don’t speak for everyone up here but the farmers I speak to regularly in South-Western Scotland all want and need rain. The weather will do what it is going to do anyway.
  5. Had this convo with a farmer this morning whilst out a hack early doors on my horse. Barley is gonna be ready by the weekend he thinks which is of course super early. Certainly getting pretty dry now, had worse, but local stream is almost stagnant in places. Roasting hot day at 26c and forecast shows warmer still to come.
  6. A high of 24.7c (just edging down from that now) which is a good bit over the met office 23c prediction. A cracker, wall to wall sunshine. Met office and BBC have said 27/28c here for Friday (and Sat) so could scrape 29. Pre last month’s record breaker (>32c) i’ve only recorded >29.5c here on one occasion. It does go to show how seemingly easily we’re testing records.
  7. Agreed! Where have they been this year?! Perhaps we will pick some up when this heatwave breaks down
  8. Echo the thoughts of Quinach. Today is the first day of the sunny warm weather. Pleasant at 21c currently but forecast to ramp up with the met office forecasting 27c on both Friday and Saturday. Since mid June this summer hasn’t been bad, a good August will certainly mean it’s remembered for more than just a brief record plume in July.
  9. Cooler today, 17c and very cloudy. Already on 20mm for the month. Interestingly our average rainfall in August here is 110mm which supports my point that the second half of summer here is mixed. Infact for the year as a whole there is a clear pattern due to the jet stream. October - Jan = Monsoon (150mm per month) Drops from Feb (110) to just 70 in April. May and June 80ish, 91 July as we head towards the wet half of the year. Speaking of wet, a further video from yesterday which I found quite amusing. Trying to get a jumper on up a hill is tricky as my friend found out! IMG_6321.MOV
  10. Returned home to 23c and solid blue skies. However not such a nice day up Meall Nan Tarmachan. Drizzle that only got heavier above 800m. Winds gusting 50/60 which strengthen. Bailed on the tarmachan ridge but got the munro in IMG_6325.MOV
  11. The muggiest of muggy days. Was 19.5c about midday, warm enough for shorts despite no sunshine as humidity felt >80%. In the last hour some quite sharp showers have pushed through, temp is down. Classic late July/August weather for here, can’t remember the last good August. Maybe we can break that theme
  12. Great day for Langholm common riding too I believe. And yes the max temp was MILES out from BBC/Met office. My app was saying 19c.
  13. Perfect summer weather, 22c and very sunny. Not much wind, not too humid and sun feeling that wee bit less strong. Rain moving in tonight which is perfect as the fields have had slurry put on them. Looks like high pressure may return so i’m happy for us to get some rain before then.
  14. Friday I climbed Ben Lui (and another munro beside it), despite the recent dry weather it was a swamp in points. Saturday was a washout down here and today hasn’t been a lot better. About 30mm in the last 36-48 hours which was much needed.
  15. Repeat of yesterday. 24.5c and sunny. Lots of cloud around but seems to never obscure the sun Perfect summer weather. Shame I no longer keep records (I will in the future) but I suspect despite a slow start to the month the mean max will be a fair bit above the rolling 30 year average of 19.7c.
  16. Snap. 23.7c and glorious sunshine. Much fresher than the last two days but today would normally be described as ‘warm’ at nearly 4c above average.
  17. Taking a very N/S path as opposed to much Easterly progress. Stranraer will have had some big storms. I am eyeing up the stuff over Wales for me however it looks like the Welsh mountains are swallowing it up for now.
  18. I think we’ve maxed here at 31.4c. Clouded over and breeze picked up
  19. 31.2c, tropical. Hazy sunshine. Highest i’ve recorded here (Started in 2008)
  20. Nightmare that this is our nearest sight given its altitude. Not representative of temps in the area. I’m confident a new record will be set in Easternmost D&G/the borders. Just awake off nightshift so shall go check what temperature we are at
  21. Sadly didn’t have access to my thermometer today, 29c or so appears to be what we maxed at. Awful to be in between nightshifts for. No AC (will buy in the winter), despite a fan etc barely 4 hours of sleep. Bedroom was 27c at midday. Even worse ahead tomorrow. Will have access to my themometer so i’ll be very interested to see what we peak at, I suspect the highest i’ve ever recorded >30c. Somewhere well to my East will probably set a new Scottish record.
  22. 25.8c currently and hazy sunshine. Bit of a breeze though and doesn’t feel muggy. V warm. Already uncomfortable to sleep in (I work shifts and i’m nightshift next two days, class)
  23. Lovely day. If it wasn’t for the forthcoming weather I would describe today as warm. 21.4c, full sunshine and light winds. Glorious. The weather, after a very slow cloudy start, from mid june has been perfect. Getting dry now but we did have some rain end of June. Looks like we’ll get some more soon
  24. Still some charts showing 33/34c in the very far SE. I think that will be the most likely result with 32c breached in the SE. Met office now shows 30c for Tuesday which I think is the highest i’ve ever seen it. Usually in my sheltered back yard we get 1/2c above what the met office say. I do think somewhere in Scotland is going to set a new record for the country on Tuesday. What is our warmest minimum ever temp?
