  1. Been a very dry last couple weeks, lots of sunshine but temperatures generally cool. I think the warmest was yesterday reaching 18c. We do need some rain but temperatures look like they’re going to become very disappointing again. Sadly the dry conditions have led to fires, the photo below relates to a fire currently ongoing behind my house set by a bunch of young boys who all ran away.
  2. Fantastic pics in here. Yesterday at 0600 dipped to -6c which would beat some recent ‘winters’ down here Snow showers came in during the afternoon with the temp being only 4c at 1700. Lovely start to the day today, -3.5c and sunny. However it’s clouded over and snow is currently lightly falling with the temp at 5c. Quite looking forward to the warmer temperatures in 5 or so days time IMG_3342.MOV IMG_3341.MOV
  3. No lying snow down here but certainly has been snow and hail showers which is very rare for so late on (down here anyway). Currently 5c with frequent showers of a frozen persuasion. Sun feels strong when sheltered. Can confirm the daffodils are very much still alive here. Was up near Sanquhar last night running some errands and took the opportunity to go over the hills, this was the view between Crawfordjohn and Leadhills. Was 0c at 7pm up there, typically 4/5c colder than down here.
  4. Another crystal clear day, low of -1c and a high of 13c. Very pleasant in the sunshine
  5. WHAT A DAY. Climbed White Coomb (821m ASL) in the Moffat hills via Grey mare’s tail/Loch Skeen. A tiring 15km hike as ticked off 2 other ‘Donalds’ in the process but what a day for it. Was 11c even at the top and now back home where it’s 19c and warm sunshine. Certainly doesn’t feel like the end of March My gf tells me it’s like 5c and wet in the central belt but can assure you i’m in shorts and t-shirt!
  6. Much brighter day with some sunshine. Briefly hit 13c before falling back Not quite getting the warm weather London is having but up to 15c tomorrow down here so we’re slowly getting there. If we do get a cold blast then I hope it’s of the extreme variety otherwise I don’t want to know. 5c, cloudy with a cold wind is useless
  7. Lots! Didn’t realise there was a shortage otherwise i’d have taken pics of some. They’re getting much bigger now Very wet start to the day here, now cloudy and 12c. Not seen a glimpse of the sun in several days...
  8. Stunning day (much better than forecast) with very little cloud cover. 13.5c and strong sunshine. A rogue pheasant casually walking about safe in the knowledge the dogs are in the house... (for now)
  9. Cracker of a day, warm affects of the Solway in evidence here at 15c and sunny. A few suntraps in the yard and feeling very pleasant in a t-shirt out of any breeze
  10. Gorgeous day today, sunny and reached 11c. The sun managed to clear the local hill which gives several hours more sunshine compared to a month ago. Beautiful day, also a very nice day in Glasgow I believe...
  11. Thankfully recent days have been dry but very chilly. I’m hoping it warms up soon. Can’t help but feeling increasingly optimistic though. Warmer weather is coming, covid is retreating and 55 is in the bag ️ The main reason I want warmer weather is so my hands don’t get so cold sculpting my statue of Steven Gerrard
  12. Sadly as discussed above SEPA’s site is down. Rainfall in the last 7 days has been extreme down here, river will be coming over for the second time in 4 days. Today’s summary - Very wet and very windy, 10c
  13. Lovely day, just shy of 11c. You’d never think there was an Amber weather warning out for tomorrow, hope not too many homes are flooded
  14. Lovely afternoon - no wind, milky sunshine and feeling very mild at 10c. Was able to run in just shorts and a t-shirt, first time for ages!
  15. Class pics. Do you like the climate over there? If I had to leave Scotland (I won’t, my sister lives in Australia - just not for me) then Canada would probably be top on my list. Certainly want to visit! My friends rate it highly
  16. I feel your pain mate. Hopefully a covering arrives before it melts down here. Thoughts are turning to spring in the strong snowless sunshine The gf who hates snow makes me want to kill myself by sending vids such as below (Just south of Falkirk, 600ft asl) FullSizeRender.mov
  17. Had a horrendously difficult climb. Took 3 hours to ascend only 350m (7km). Snow was just so deep and gave way with EVERY step. (Could have done with snow crampons) Very similar to what LS posted, 4/5 feet fence posts and gates were made to look miniature. I shall be taking a sledge (and eventually skis) to any future climb as would have been outrageous fun. Got a wee slide as per last video: IMG_2883.MOV IMG_2890.MOV
  18. Graupel arrived here in Dumfries which is surprisingly far West, a good sign hopefully! Going up a few modest hills today 500/600m so shall feel the force of the keen wind!
  19. They need to take down their sign then!! I heard Flash is a pretty small village, Leadhills has a pub for instance.
  20. Corgarff is a cracking wee place, met a couple pals there when restrictions were loose back in summer. The plan is to have another uni reunion this summer there too. Although I left Dumfries in like 19c and it was about 12c up there, autumnal in late July haha Wanlockhead is 1531 feet (466m asl) as per their sign - photo below, Leadhills not far behind
  21. Went to check recent rainfall levels but I see SEPA is down. Been CONSTANT precipitation here since Monday (Snow to sleet and today is just rain). 4c and moderate rain, was torrential at 7am this morning. I look forward to a blast of some proper cold air even if it’s unlikely the showers will reach here
  22. Was snowing heavily earlier on. Even snow in the far South West according to people I know (Rhins of Galloway). Still a sludgy couple centimetres left here in the outskirts of Dumfries but sadly drip...drip...drip. 2c Fingers crossed for some fierce cold next week, got another local hill booked in to climb Sunday so shall go find winter if it won’t come to me.
  23. Some majestic pics in this thread today. To add some non-weather related ones I had heard Otters were playing down from my house a few weeks ago and they had until today been elusive... Wee man was doing some fishing
  24. Missed the large snowfall that the East experienced a couple days ago. However there was a couple centimetres overnight where I work (Wigtownshire) and just had a wee snow shower at home which has almost turned the grass white. Currently 1c, more showers forecast. -8c forecast further west and i’m nightshift so will see how low we go. Been a very solid winter, slightly marginal at times (certainly down here) but never had to drive far to see some snow. If all winters were like this i’d bite your hand off If we get a cold spell in February then winter 20/21 will be scored highly especially for the longevity rather than extreme depth of the cold.
