  1. Exceptionally mild, breached 200mm of rain for the month so that’s 125% of average. Still time to push higher… Climbed Ben Chonzie yesterday, nice climb and had reasonable visibility which makes a change!
  2. Very mild today, 15c. Unusually quite a lot of sunshine. More heavy rain to come in tonight
  3. I don’t disagree with much of what you’ve said in your first paragraph but the money needed to do this would be colossal. I certainly think Edinburgh (who already have great bus services) and say Glasgow should be moving in the direction you suggest. Bit different further north and further South though. I’m 5 miles from the town (so not even that rural) and it would be a logistical nightmare if I relied on public transport. At this moment in time I think we have far bigger issues to worry about sadly which will have a detrimental impact on the progress we are making towards climate change. The A9 would be even safer still if they introduced more areas where faster traffic can overtake the HGVs. Half of the HGVs cannot even maintain 50mph when climbing up hill. Anyway it’s not going to happen anytime soon, no money!
  4. ICE cars will be phased out over the next decade (even less really). I don’t see why electric cars would be an issue for you. We’d need to invest heavily in the bus network so that I could actually catch one in order to then catch this train you speak of. Furthermore, the speed limit of the standard 2 lane undivided carriageway is as you know 60. Those lorries are limited to 50 on the A9 (thankfully not 40) so of course cars are going to be looking for the overtake. By all means leave a 2 second gap to the car infront if you're want to just trundle along but progressive driving is usually the aim. I really think it’s a niche view to think the A9 (I drive the A75 everyday which suffers from similar problems) being not fit for purpose is a good thing
  5. The A9 needs dualed. What a slow road it is once you get North of Perth, not many places to overtake the lorries (the very occasional additional lane) and pretty busy.
  6. What is that Blue colour above those hills? Yesterday was a wet morning, nice afternoon but I was stuck at work until late. Today, managing to dodge the worst of the showers but serious rain starting to move in. Diurnal range is minimal at the moment, very mild temperatures. Ground is starting to struggle to cope with the rain. At the start of today, 23/10, we were at 95% of the monthly expected rainfall. Going to smash through that today… Probably gonna breach 200mm for the month. The only positive is the heating can stay off…
  7. Started off well with Monday breaching 15c in the sunshine defying the time of year. Last couple days have felt chilly with a nagging wind. I got a bit lucky today just about dodging the worst of the rain. I drove up the A9 to the Drumochter pass, climbing Geal chàrn and A’mharconaich. Despite mild temperatures (certainly for that neck of the woods - the climb started at 425m) at 9c, it was pretty raw once the permanent drizzle set in about 650m in altitude. Still not had any kind of view from any summit since April this year, been a tad unlucky. A much needed stop at the House of Bruar for some food and then South to be drenched with standing water plentiful on the M74. The wait for a snowy walk goes on…
  8. Amazing the NW/SE divide rainfall wise, even compared to what The PIT has been posting. You’ll be similar to myself, i’m over 110mm so far (Official SEPA station) which is 72% of average for the month so pacing for a wet month
  9. Nice day not that I saw much of it being nightshift. Underestimated how much rain fell yesterday, another 20+mm day. Over 100mm for the month already and rain has moved in again, almost certain to be classed as a wet month although will not be taking on October last year.Next few days do look a bit drier. Tackling some munros Thursday but just my luck it looks milder by then. My proper winter coat will be staying in the wardrobe for a while yet
  10. We first had snow on the very highest tops in mid September. Hopefully you get snow soon!
  11. A chilly start to last night reaching 2c in the early hours before incredibly heavy rainfall moved in. Shower off and on all day but firmly on currently. Very wet and cold at just 9c at 1600 hours. Well over 90mm for the month now
  12. A very wet evening, 25mm fell yesterday. Nowhere near the biblical totals of Oct 21 but looking like an above average month of rainfall. Currently on 70mm which is 45% of the monthly average. Today is a far nicer day, fresh at 9c with sunny spells.
  13. Scotland is now snowless, the sphinx has melted (as documented on Iain Cameron’s twitter and the aforementioned Facebook page). Bleak. Cannot wait for a this winter, hopefully a better winter than last. Surprised the Sphinx managed to last as long as it did
  14. Rainbows sum today up, some lovely sunshine and yet more rain. Sadly only taken on phones which don’t do it justice FullSizeRender.MOV
  15. 29.2mm in last 36 hours according to SEPA. Says it all really Really noticing how early it’s getting dark in the evenings. Hopefully only another few weeks until something more interesting cold wise occurs now that we’re through boring September, a frost would do… Got a couple munro days pencilled in for the 20th and 28th of this month (probably A’Mharconich et al for one of the days), I have my fingers crossed for a snowy summit but wishful thinking perhaps. The clear air you get from a Northerly hasn’t been experienced on a hill by myself since about April.
  16. Yellow warning out for rain here which seemed predictable. A very normal spell of weather really, the recent hurricanes have perhaps been responsible for the injection of a bit of oomph into the Jet. October is historically the wettest month of year here (153mm) just beating December (151mm). Summer a distant memory now.
  17. Really feeling autumnal now and the trees are changing colour. September was the first month with above average rainfall since Feb, only just at 125mm (avg 113.7). Certainly looking forward to some snowy munro walks, hopefully won’t have to wait too long for that. Skiddaw yesterday was a rather wet experience with absolutely fantastic visibility at the top!
  18. Yes I noticed the forecasts for Ben Macdui et al are nice and wintry Mon -Wed. I’m hopefully getting a munro in on Friday, A’Mharconich, sadly looking like it’ll be milder by then. I’ll have to wait for my first snowy walk of the year.
  19. First morning with a real chill in the air. Gorgeous sunrise and car was reading 1.5c as I drove home this morning after nightshift. Bring on winter!
  20. Fantastic weather last few days, can’t remember which day hit 24c. Pretty humid, dry and often sunny. Today has breached 21c and i’m slightly sunburnt. Very decent summer after a slow start
  21. Yesterday was a cracker, 20.6c the high and very sunny. Did feel like late summer though Today has been normal Scottish weather. Full cloud cover, 17c. Frequent Drizzle. Lovely, nice and refreshing after the heat. Sorry to hear the sad news about Puffy, His posts were full of wit and humour.
  22. Surprised nobody in the general Inverness area has posted anything about the storms. They look wild on the radar! And the lightning strikes back that up Some cloud bubbling up here but not enough for any respite. 30.4c currently, have not previously recorded a spell of such consistently high temperatures like this before.
  23. Another face meltingly warm day. Clear blue skies though notably more haze. Just breached 28c, I hope today ends with a beefy storm.
  24. Currently 30.1c, probably going to top out around the same level as yesterday. Far too hot and tomorrow doesn’t look much better. Best August for summer weather in years
