Cracking pics in this thread last few days. Tuesday was fantastic but last couple have been wet and gloomy down here. Ground pretty saturated, I hope this easterly materialises to deliver us some snow before we see a much quicker warm up that last spring. If nothing else it would save us some money after April arrives!

I see i’m not the only one in this thread who was out enjoying the sunshine today. People were skiing down from Green Lowther today, sadly was off nightshift otherwise would have gone on more of a trek. The dogs enjoyed it, was the youngest gun dog’s first taste of proper snow and the old collie lead the way. 2 people flew overhead on a microlight which looked brilliant IMG_5156.MOV

The forecast has moved further and further north over the last 24 hours so sleet has pretty much become rain here, high tomorrow of 5c. My intention is to get up some hills Saturday in the Southern uplands but even there I see some sleet forecast at times so not exactly fantastic. Hopefully find some deep snow Somewhere further north will do very well though and winds will impact us slightly more down here briefly as a result. I think Southern England will get a shock tomorrow

This winter has been a bit of a bust down here, despite the good start in late November and coolish parts of December. At least it has not been a completely snowless winter, however, the lack of snow on the hills compared to last winter has been depressing. Even during the last week, snow has struggled to lie in Leadhills for any length of time (400m) yet central belt and north the snowline has been much lower. Managed to get up a couple of Donalds and wainwrights, my photo album for this winter is (so far) much smaller than last. Sun had a bit of warmth in it yesterday, can’t be bothered with a late spring like last year. I hope we get some warmth to celebrate the summer where all restrictions will be removed! Thought i’d add a photo from the red squirrel wood near Kirkcudbright:

Re your last paragraph - I fully agree and tbh it applies to so many things in our society in 2022. I’ll stop as I’m sounding 76 and not the 26 years old that I am. It’s like when there’s heavy snow and people still try and drive their unsuitable car on summer tyres up a hill. Get stuck with no blankets/food/snow shovel/charged phones/spare fuel and expect the emergency services to get them immediately. Away and boil your heed. Very good point, as much as I support the move to electric I can certainly see some drawbacks. When the whole country is putting strain on the network I wonder how cheap it’ll really be (Gov will want their tax after all) and as someone employed by the emergency services I wonder how these electric vehicles will cope when their blue lights are left on to alert other drives to a broken down vehicle/RTC. How will the range drop when you start putting the foot really down… When they get 50,000 miles a year…. That’s above my pay grade though so as the old saying goes ‘Who’s carin’? No me’

Indeed, we all have our fingers crossed. Why the conference is being held in November though beats me, I know the Police for example are strongly discouraged from running the engine of their vehicles so might get a bit chilly. Diesel generators being used to power the electric Jag I-pace vehicles at Gleneagles after 2 years of planning for this…

Don’t have a rainfall gauge but if I did the totals would be very sexy. Rain just has not stopped I live near the river (lucky up a fair hill), where that video is I run past. There is a path beside the river usually so the water has risen about 10 feet or so almost engulfing the rowing club. Fun to watch how rapidly large logs and branches flow down. Further down the river meets the sea and becomes tidal (only river in Scotland to have a caul I think) so severe flooding expected about 5pm but this does occur multiple times a year. IMG_4593.MOV

Getting closer to the more exciting time of the year. Late spring/Summer is always fantastic but my enthusiasm for the usual mild cloudy August - October period in Western Scotland is limited. Going to get very wet down here by the end of play on Wednesday, yellow warning already out (the second in under a week)

A cloudy but muggy day again here, 22c the max. Made it easier to sleep off nightshift in thankfully. Weather from tomorrow onwards looks stunning, Met office forecasting 26c for Monday now (climbing every day). Gonna be up near Grantown-on-Spey for a stag do end of the week and weather is to be glorious into the low 20s. A BBQ is planned

Certainly been some good weather down here this past week, you timed it well as we’re often wet but warmish. Perfect summer weather with temps getting no higher than 25c or so. Wasn’t overly pleasant to sleep off nightshift though or to wear lots of kit in the blaring sun. I know through work that a high % of vehicles in the area are registered to places which suggest folk are enjoying staycations. Great for the local economy Not sure for how long it’ll be overlooked as lots of property is being bought by money from down South. Some photos from the past week (Not all taken by me). Some nice sunsets!

Lovely day to start my annual leave, 15.5c, strong unbroken sunshine and a drying wind. Despite this the ground is squelching as you walk such has been the monsoon like rainfall since the April drought. Heavy showers forecast to move up from the South tonight, much more ‘summer’ like. The grass is well behind where it normally is but recent nights keeping us in double digits or high single figures should cause a rapid change
