Macron to give a televised address tonight at 8 PM French time .

Looks like I did the right thing stocking up today !

He wouldn’t be doing that unless more restrictions are coming in . The only country now in Europe which resembles any sort of  normality in terms of daily life is the UK.

What do you think the restrictions will be, Nick?

I'm stocked up but the local Proxi is still well provided and noticeably busier than usual, which is a perverse kind of good news for Christine because the business often struggles at this time of year.

I got a rubbish night's sleep last night so after walking to my first client in the village, I decided to cycle the 4km to my next as the rain had stopped. I feel so much better and I think I'll do the same tomorrow even if I have to be there for 08h15 - the weather forecast is superb for the next few days, 20c+ progged - so between running and cycling I reckon I'll get the sleep I need.

Sorry if I’m not remembering accurately but is he working in the UK?  Would his employers give permission to come home early?

He's on a consultancy contract so he can leave any time. We needed a bit of top-up money in the UK bank account before we can sell the house

Hopefully, we will be reunited next Sunday.

I’ve decided to face the supermarket early next week and stock up on alcohol !

I’m going to go out in a blaze of glory ! I’m not even much of a drinker but intend to self medicate till this is over !

Nick, don't go down the alcohol route. I have been tempted but wouldn't ever go there. Walk in the sun. I'm going to keep running and hugging my dog!

Some very concerning news from France .

Apart from the increase in deaths from 91 to 120.

    Cases up 900 to 5400.

Doctors over recent days have noticed an increase in severe illness amongst those 30 and over who had no underlying conditions .

    Not good.

I'm feeling better after a tearful conversation with OH. We have resolved ourselves that if he can't get here next weekend that we will just wait it out until he can.

Still baffled as to what's open and what's shut!

Dans les parcs, les rues ou les abords du canal Saint-Martin, les Parisiens étaient nombreux profiter du soleil, malgré les nouvelles restrictions gouvernementales pour faire face à l'épidémie de coronavirus.

No one seems to be giving a toss here. Shops and businesses going on as usual. A nice day for a walk in the parks and gardens of Paris...

But there is absolutely no reason or need to get within 1, or more, metres of anyone else when out in the fresh air walking our dogs. Unless someone chooses to get right into the personal space of me, as I walk my dog and put their face within close proximity to my personal space, then I respectfully suggest both I and my dog would have more than something to say about that.
It’s far more likely that any of us will become infected in a closed environment e.g. office, crowded underground or commuter carriage - or even as we squabble over the remaining toilet rolls in a busy supermarket - but not outside while walking a dog. We need to regain some perspective please.

oh come on, what if you were carrying and not knowing it?

Why should you put the rest of us at risk just for 2 weeks stuck inside?

At this point, I honestly don't care. The "political" response is a mess. Just met a friend walking her dogs and agreed with my ideas. We're relatively remote from contagion and we have to get on and live.

To go out you need a valid reason, which include grocery shopping, farmacia or medical reasons

A valid reason is health - i need ro run for my own physical/mental health and walk/run with my dog. How does that work? If necessary, I'd get a note from my doctor...

  9. So in Spain you can't go out for a walk! I'd never obey that if it came into force here. I'd keep running and dog walking, I'm always well away from other folks but even still - no bloody way. Sorry!

  10. "Despite nationwide restrictions that include closing restaurants, cafes, cinemas and nightclubs, France is pressing on with local elections.

Measures to stop infections are in place at polling stations, with election officials wearing gloves and bottles of hand sanitiser placed at entrances.

Turnout currently stands at about 18%, down from 23% in 2014's vote.

French President Emmanuel Macron said the vote was needed to "ensure the continuity of our democratic life"." (Source: BBC live)

Our democratic life - what about just our lives. Stupid, stupid thinking...

  11. "Les conducteurs de bus et tram de Transports Bordeaux Métropole (TBM) ont exercé leur droit de retrait ce dimanche après une suspicion de cas chez l'un d'entre eux. Selon le réseau de transports, les tramways ne circulent plus et les réseau bus est fortement perturbé." (Source: BFTMTV live)

I mentioned this early on here. Serious transport problems as bus and tram drivers exercise their right to withdraw from work in Bordeaux due to a case among them.

Hearing from a health care professional on the frontline "that lemon is beginning to hit the fan" and will unravel very very quickly

Never seen a lemon hit a fan but assume you meant poo before the babysitter intervened!

  13. Austria has banned gatherings of more than 5 people - I'm just pondering - me, my two neighbours and two neighbours across have just been nattering over the fence in the garden (they were together next to me). One more person and we'd be banned if anyone was watching. This whole scenario is bonkers

Perhaps the doctors are going to put their holiday tents .  Just hope they don’t go back packing and the tents are so low  you  have to crawl into them.

We have a "Peapod" for emergency camping. We have fitted two people and a dog inside in a storm! Wouldn't fancy a clinical consultation in it though as you do have to crawl...

Local shops and supermarkets around my area are all manic now.  Asda Longwell Green, Tesco Brislington, Aldi Longwell Green, Tesco Keynsham and Sainsburys Emerson Green are all destroyed.  No long life stock at all.

Car parks all full with numerous road rage incidents. Smaller, convenience stores however are modestly OK.  Still some options in those.

Interestingly, whilst panic buying increases,  pubs/restaurants and the local ten pin bowling alley were all very busy yesterday afternoon too.  Waiter that served our table mentioned yesterday being the busiest day they've had in a long time.

So we've got panic buying with an increase in socialising.  Only in Bristol!!

Remember all of this and we can co-write a very good horror novel because that's what it sounds like. I hope you have your essential supplies. Just stay away from the maniacs because people will turn nasty when they feel as threatened as they do.

  16. "Debate is raging in France about what is the better model for tackling Covid-19: the Chinese with their radical system of confinement for limiting the spread; or the UK with their “herd immunity” approach, according to which infection of a majority is inevitable – and even, if properly handled, to be welcomed.

Up until a couple of days ago, it seemed France leaned more to the “herd” philosophy. Like in Britain, the official view favoured a controlled propagation - buying time so that the wave of infections is drawn out over a long period, and hospitals are not overwhelmed.

But now suddenly, there is a shift in the other direction. First schools, then cafés, restaurants and allnon-essential shops are to be closed. It seems the government now thinks Chinese- and Italian-style draconianism is more appropriate - except when it comes to the municipal elections, which are going ahead as planned.

If it all feels a little improvised, that is perhaps excusable. We have after all never seen anything like this before." (Source: BBC live)

Are we ahead of the game or what?
