A defined wavy line of convection now appearing, but unlike yesterday, it's moving south west!! So Leicester is safe today?

Hi, thank you for your informative reply, I guess it's one of those things that is very difficult to study/quantify with it being oh so unpredictable, and fast.... I watched a programme once about deliberately triggering lightning with a solid fuel rocket and copper wired tail, it was very interesting... However, man-made lightning does not have natures unpredictability... Fascinating subject, but I am terrified, and paranoid about thunder/lightning, it's almost if not a full blown phobia of mine, but like Gordon Webb, except I am fascinated, drawn to it, yet terrified at the same time... I do some strange things when a storm approaches me, depending where I am.. I also get stomach issues, and other symptoms when a storm is miles and miles away, if it's heading my way....

Just been reading about that ridiculously loud thunder heard in Manchester last night, apart from - and + Lightning, is their another sort? Perhaps a "Superbolt" that is much more powerful than a + CG? Something went wrong with this posting, it seems to have destroyed someone else's post!! Don't know how!!!

That small cell just appeared! Grew from small green/blue dot to that in 45 mins, it's now graduated to this....... What's next for this little growing baby? Leicester perhaps around 05.30? It will wake me if it makes it..... Sleep time, now, 03:42

Just popped out of nowhere, this shower went from nothing, 40 mins ago, to this with a pink/purple core, with corresponding lightning (5 strikes) on Blitzortung in last 15 minutes!! Please confirm, and what the hell caused it!!! Everything else seemed to die off in last 2-3 hours, then this!!!!

Hi, what I meant was do you have a gizmo that tells you if a strike is - or + or are you saying it's - or + based on the way the strike looks, or ? I see lightning, but can not be absolutely sure if it was a positive or negative strike, or can you tell the difference just by the way the strike looked ?

Are you a Sisko, Odo, or Keira Nerise fan? Or do you prefer the Gem'hadar and Vorta?

This may be a daft, ignorant question, but how are you able to differentiate between normal and a positive strike where you are at the moment???

With all this Cape around.... and by the looks of it, a bit further east than forecast (the triangle jutting into the Midlands) does this give us midlanders more of a chance of copping a thunderstorm than initially forecast today??

Yes, sorry... not phrased very well!! I have used rain alarm for along time alongside netweather radar, must be a problem with the rain alarm general, as you said, that rain just isn't there!!!!!! Netweather was showing absolutely nowt, so I questioned rain alarm rather than netweather as being incorrect...!

Rain Alarm, what's happening off the east coast....? Looks like the radar is being chopped off? Can anyone elaborate on where the indicated rain actually ends on its western flank?

Well, the sun didn't manage to show itself until around 8/8:15pm today, very , very muggy though.... The track wouldn't dry, I think it was "wicking" moisture out of the air? Is that possible? Track surface is clay/shale mix, 50/50.... Hope Sun gets out tomorrow.... Anyone chasing tomorrow have good luck and stay safe!!!

Quick question..... Do thunderstorms seed thunderstorms? What I mean is that when a storm has tracked a particular path, does that path then have a higher chance of further thunderstorms?

What on earth is that in the north sea? It's roughly where all the cells seemed to fire, or re-fire the last few days? Is it there? Or the dreaded Anaprop? The lower picture is a close up....

I have been told in the past, that detectors struggle with inter cloud and intra cloud? I suppose if it doesn't discharge to ground, there's nothing or very little to detect?

The North sea seems to be capable today of spawning west bound cells at the moment, will these cells only be of the elevated flavour?

The early 2000's seemed ok storm wise in the Leicestershire area.... I seem to recall?
