  1. Experimental thread this so feel free to remove if it covers ground already trampled somewhere else, but I thought it would be nice to have a thread where people discuss what models are predicting over the next 14 days. We have no more storm potential for a good few days and would be nice to start looking forward to the next batch of activity and test everyone's understanding of the science behind it all... To kick off I have noticed GFS showing very slight signals for something on Tuesday / Wednesday (5th, 6th August) and looks even better for next weekend. I know it's a long way off, but what's the harm in looking into it?
  2. I'm waiting on tuesday night / wednesday morning - i know it's a very long way off but just a small chance of an early morning / night time storm. No more showers for us methinks for the rest of the day but may get a chance to see the Persides meteor shower later (if it's still happening). Glad the showers got shared about a bit the last 24 hours. Some really good pics Pip22 wish we could have got some of those threatening skies earlier on! Looks awesome
  3. Saw elevated flashes for a whole over in Sevenoaks but called it a day - now hoping for stuff to happen further west
  4. Okay anyone know of good high up storm watching places near Tonbridge Wells?
  5. Yep, I was being sarcastic :-PSeriously though, I've seen this sort of sky before and reckon it's ripe for storms tonight. My plan: drive out to the east and sit tight in Kent maybe Sevenoaks hoping for a decent clipper (or maybe I'll be too far in for that. Sstay there til midnight or 1am, then head back west to Guildford and radar watch in case a storm comes by...Sound like a good idea?
  6. I haven't had one single thunderstorm in August yet, hopefully this will change tonight :-P
  7. Midlands storm appears to be dying off now. Tasty looking cell appeared to be brewing over Yeovil way with our name on it but dunno if that's got what it takes... Still got the rest of the weekend to go - and Tuesday morning :-) I'm going tithe pub in a minute so don't want any rain just yet anyway :-)
  8. Slightly off topic for the current band of showers & storms but I noticed storm potential for early hours of Tuesday... We even got a lightning symbol! Any chance this afternoon's activity will last down into Hants?
  9. I've noticed this (well I've wondered about the link) thought it might be to do with the excitement of the molecules - ie the air is a more lively gas perhaps? Also: noticed potential for Southern counties on sat - anyone can expand on this?
  10. Thanks for the advice... know estofex et al but its not that great for pinning down exactly 'when'. The times for the stuff this morning were incorrect as far as the forcasts I saw yesterday but maybe I should use a wider range of forecasts and average between them - sometimes I think our weather gets it's act together too late and a lot of the potential is lost. Oh well. Hot again today though
  11. Hi everyone Sorry for my ranting this morning. Woke up with a lot on my mid ahead of a frustrating day and I think findig everyone else was enjoying a good storm just topped it all off. You know when you find yourself ina bad mood but just can't shake it? Well hope everyone who did get (edit: 'get' not 'gay' lol) action made the most of it - and I feel the pain of all the storm-starved who didn't. Looking forward to the next event, as I said earlier would love pointers on how I can be better prepared although it's basically luck at the end of the day anyway. Threatening looking skies about but doubting whether the ingredients are there for anything new. Time for lunch methinks :-)
  12. Hey will diurnal heating spark off anything else later today? Or am I getting my hopes up again?
  13. Put this in the moan thread if you like but despite being VERY on the ball last night and checking all available information sources and now casting I completely missed this. Turned up at work 9 this morning and they had a belter of a storm since 5. Had I had access to anything forecasting this yesterday / last night I would have been here and waiting. Some pointers for where I should be looking for next time would be much appreciated as I have decided this is the last 'next door storm' I will be missing. As you can understand extremely frustrated to have missed this. Would really like to be in te midst of some action soon. Bought loads of storm photography equipment which is sitting gathering dust despite every attempt to be where the storms are. Not looking forward to the potentially very long painful wait until the next one... And on top of all this it is Monday and now I have a long long week of work. :-(
  14. Forecasts have all changed to say thunderstorms. Saw none of them say this yesterday. Not much of a forecast if they wait til it happens. Was expecting all of this last night. Couldn't get anywhere near the activity because of rush hour traffic. Worst timing and positioning of a storm for me. No worries, will wait three weeks for the next one...
  15. Looks like it's trying to get stormy outside but just not quite getting there yet...
  16. They've upped our storm risk to 52% for this afternoon. Lots of growing Cu's, and nice looking high level stuff too - nice and unstable :-)
  17. Isn't it worse to be sat in the middle of it and still get the leftovers? I'd probably be happier with wall-to-wall sunshine than pointless cloud. Anyway bored of moaning, They keep being moved!
  18. Can I moan about my moan being moved? This thread seems too jubilant ;-)
  19. I am moving to the bottom of the sea, apparently floods there every day. No lightning though - but if I eat a battery I might see sparks
  20. Situation could be that the storms get here as the sun goes down. Then we would get to see some beautiful lightning. And then my pig will grow wings, my elephant will start talking, my cows will learn to program a computer, a duck will win Masterchef and my farts will smell of flowers. What I am trying to say is it may be unlikely.
  21. Lol most boring 'storms' ever. Dying off in minutes. Why don't the ingredients work? Typical British storms. You couldn't sell them to the arctic! Bet people in Waterlooville are grumpy they missed out this afternoon - feel for you guys, was expecting raucous T&L and then while at work we got a naff half hour rumble fest with lightning I never saw. C**p. Simply c**p. Watching all the excitement happen somewhere else - always. What a surprise - Kent has lightning. May as well be a different country. Oh look - a cell the othe side of london - oh look it died on it's 4R5E like the 162 storms before it. What does lightning look like again, I forgot... Does it look like cake? Probably. Worst place for any sort of even remotely exciting weather... Ever. I'm moving abroad as soon as I have the money.
