  1. Thoroughly enjoyed our unexpected snow yesterday, though it turned our already quite feisty dog into an absolute nut. No idea why, he's seen snow before. He acted like a demented toddler on the walk out of our estate and caused our teenage daughter to walk at least 20 yards behind us as it was "just too embarrassing" . This was useful when we realised one of the cats was trying to join us on our walk as we deployed the daughter to chase the cat back home so it didn't get lost. The dog calmed down a bit when we got to the woods.
  2. Does anyone know if the Santa shaker is up yet? I can only find the 2022 one.
  3. Glad to hear some of you are getting some flakes. Looking forward to the pictures
  4. No idea about the temperature, but car windscreen had feathery frozen patterns first thing. It's a bit grey just now here in Falkirk .
  5. Glorious day that I had to spend cleaning as we stupidly invited friends round for supper. I can usually find more interesting things to do than clean so it took the whole day. Hubby went out with the dog and got some gorgeous frosty snaps.
  6. Bit of a meh day here. Took a wander down to Airth to have a look at the Dunmore Pineapple (bizarre but cheery) and the abandoned mansion (creepy). I think we may possibly have stumbled on a Border Collie convention as we saw about 10 or 12 at various point on the walk. All very stressful as our Border Terrier has an extreme case of Collie hate and usually goes ballistic every time we see one. Weirdly today, he trotted past them all without a squeak. I think he was weirded out by the abandoned mansion.
  7. Hard frost thus morning and a temperature inversion over Falkirk. Glorious now. Have done the final cut of the grass (hopefully) swept up a wheelie bins worth of leaves and now sitting with my feet up. Mr Snowidea is off to Glasgow tonight with our daughter to see Louis Tomlinson . He drew the short straw.
  8. Dog walk at Bracklin Falls in Callander today. Chilly enough for a wooly hat. Everything looking gorgeously Autumnal.
  9. Gorgeous here too, took the dog up what we call the high path and could snow on what I think is probably the lawyers range.
  10. Just a bit wet and breezy in Falkirk, also think we've been moved out of the warning area. Thinking of you all further north and east.
  11. I don't know unfortunately. It looks like stacks of pancakes. I have a mate who's into foraging I'll ask him
  12. We got back from Paris on Wednesday, shot up to a soggy Glencoe for a few nights in the van on Thursday but came home on Friday as I was feeling terrible. Have managed to bring Covid home from France . Last time I had it it felt like a mild cold, this time it was close to proper flu, but finally feel a bit better today. Looks like I've missed some nice crisp weather, car was frosty this morning. Hopefully get the dog out for a walk later (though will have to avoid chatting to other dog owners for a few more days I think).
  13. Baking hot in Paris, just roasting. Keep seeing my son on the ring doorbell setting off with the dog wrapped up in raincoats and jumpers.
  14. Flipping heck, I've been preoccupied as meant to be flying to Paris tomorrow (from Glasgow) so I've been merrily watching the weather over there (full sun mid 20s) and forgot to check the weather over here. Woke up this morning, thought that rain's heavy I think we're just outside the amber in Falkirk (though right on the edge) I hope everyone inside gets through it all with minimal damage. Also (selfishly) hope my flight isn't cancelled.
  15. We abandoned the teens and the dog and had a cheeky night in Glasgow. Saw The National at the Hydro (absolutely awesome), made last orders at the Scotia and then decamped to the Holiday Inn next door. We had a room with a small balcony overlooking the Clyde and blimey the wind was howling. I imagine it was exaggerated by the metal balcony but it was loud. Back home now and the garden is covered in leaves.
  16. That's a great outcome. Hope the calf and cow continue to recover well.
  17. It's been ridiculously humid here in Falkirk for a few days, almost feels like being home in Cornwall (or even further south tbh). Mr Snowidea and daughter are in Paris for a cheeky short city break (I'm home with the dog and son, not sure how it worked out like that ). Attempted to catch an inversion by heading up Dumyat on Friday morning before the Haar lifted, didn't work, way too humid for the dog who kept sitting down and refusing to walk. I eventually gave up about halfway, then on the way back the dog decided he didn't want to play with the off lead friendly boxer dog (ours can be grumpy). Had to deploy multiple treats to defuse the situation, finally made it back to the car only to find I'd lost my glasses, probably during the dog confrontation . Love a bit of thunder, but for once hoping it won't hit us here in Falkirk as I'm a bit of a scary cat without Mr Snowidea around.
  18. I'm not in the warning area but Boom flash, sounded like it was right overhead here for a while. Now chucking it down and the sky is black.
  19. Been rather a wet holiday so far but I have at last seen a red squirrel. Apologies for glare, I was sitting in the conservatory. The squirrel was about a foot and a half away, couldn't have asked for a better view.
  20. Been grey and windy here for most of today, but to quote my dear old granny, the evening has crowned the day as it's now sunny. Heading North tomorrow for a week at Fersit near Roybridge. Have packed for all weathers obviously. Cottage is in the middle of nowhere and apparently the garden gets regular visits from pine martins and red squirrels. I've now lived in Scotland for 15 years and still haven't seen a red squirrel. This is despite visiting The Loch of the Lowes where apparently you can always see red squirrels (apart from when I'm there). Anyway keep your fingers crossed for me next week
