  1. Missed the meteor/space junk/fireball thing but have enjoyed seeing the videos and pictures on Twitter. @Glaswegianblizzard we're heading for the hills on Monday hopefully. That's our usual default to anything Royal on the telly.
  2. Mushrooms galore on yesterday's dog walk. Just wish I knew which ones were edible.
  3. Yuk, wet mostly. Took my son to Ratho for his Monday climbing lesson, drove back on very wet roads. Had almost forgotten what that's like. Took the dog for an evening walk at the Kelpies last night to see them lit up, very bad idea. The Kelpies were great but the dog went into ned mode and barked horribly at nearly every dog it saw. It was extremely embarrassing as we were basically walking a small brown snarling thug. He's normally absolutely fine with other dogs. No idea what got into him.
  4. Clearing up tomorrow by the looks of the met office forecast. @101_North I assume that's just in time for you to be heading home
  5. Baking hot here in Falkirk, very close and oppressive. Like a bit of thunder and lighting so keeping my fingers crossed some drifts this way. @Puffy MacCloudhope you're doing OK.
  6. Double whammy up Dumyat last night. Sunset, followed by a temperature inversion. VID-20220813-WA0000.mp4
  7. Ooft it's hot. Had a week in St Ives (total tourist madness) four of us plus the dog camped in mum's one bedroom flat (my daughter slept Harry Potter like in a cupboard), drove home then flew back again for another 5 days on my own so I could continue visiting mum in hospital. She's doing amazingly well considering she's had a stroke at 92 & they're hoping she can get back home very soon. Weather down there was Cornwall at its best, sunny with enough breeze to stop you melting. Got back home to Falkirk on Saturday. It's a bit hot for me tbh, I love the sun if I can sit on a beach, not many of them in Falkirk. Dog caught a sunbeam last night.
  8. Walked up Chapel Carn Brea today which is Britain's most westerly hill (though calling it a hill is a bit of a stretch, more of a pimple). From the top you can see Land's End and the Scilly Isles. Also visited a splendid stone circle and Carn Euny, an iron age village, where I was told to nope - still swearing off and Tut off by an enraged local who had a house next to the car park. I was trying to turn the van around after a traumatic 3 miles up single track Cornish lane with few passing places. I managed to restrain myself from retaliating with an "I am Cornish you know". I suspect he hangs around in his garden all day waiting to pounce on anyone who looks like they may try and use his parking space as a turning aid. The weather is stunning, Cornwall at its best. Mum's a bit up and down, so sad as although she is 92 up to now she's lived independently, walks every day and works at the local museum (selling tickets not as an exhibit).
  9. Home in St Ives enjoying a braw sunset from Porthmeor Beach. My mum seems to be recovering quite quickly from her stroke, arm and leg movements and spirit coming back. The town is completely overrun with tourists, but it's nice to be home in the summer (as we usually avoid peak season) and swim in the sea.
  10. Hot, hot, hot 30 according to the car with a few blobs of rain earlier. Also, just in case anyone fancies a last minute week away from the 23rd July , we're trying to cancel our booking with Wilderness Cottages for a 3 bed, dog friendly house at Fersit (near Spean Bridge). Munros to walk from the doorstep. If they can rebook it they'll complete our cancellation. We're still hoping to be able to see my poor mum so likely to be traveling down to Cornwall some time next week now. Hospital considering if they can swap nominated visitor for a week
  11. Weirdly very little wind up here today, today we went to the gloup and Durness broch. Home tomorrow, really going to miss having the sea at the end of my garden. Cornwall trip postponed as the hospital has locked down due to rising Covid numbers.
  12. Still cold up here, I was wrapped in a sleeping bag watching the sea last night. Orcas spotted further up the islands so I've spent most of today with binoculars at the ready just in case. Been to Maeshowe and Yeserby today. Still all rather splendid. Driving down to Cornwall early doors Wednesday to avoid the worst of the heat. No aircon in our campervan so worried about the dog. Yesterday it was the Italian chapel and the fossil museum. Final picture below is the house we're renting, highly recommended it for anyone interested in visiting Orkney.
  13. @Puffy MacCloudfabulous news, hope you get home soon. We're up in Orkney, in a house on the southern tip of East Ronaldsay, our garden ends in the sea and OMG it is windy. Endless, relentless wind but golly I love Orkney. Ring of Brodgar was amazing, Scarra Brae even more so. Been to the Tomb of the Otters and Hoxa Head today (my dad trained there in the war, he was a signalman on the Motor Torpedo Boats). Sadly my mum has been taken into hospital so having a surreal trip tbh loving the surroundings, the sea, the stones but worried sick about my mum and desperate to see her (Dr's optimistic about a good recovery) Ferry back on Monday, drive to Falkirk, quick sleep then 560 miles down to Cornwall through the heat wave (might drive overnight instead). A few pics and a video from the garden of our house, the rough water is a tidal race called The Liddel Eddy. MOV_0551.mp4
  14. Hi all @Puffy MacCloudglad your temp has come down hope you continue to improve. We've driven up as far as Keiss (between Wick and John O Groats), spending two nights here then ferry to Orkney on Monday. Drove up with blue sky and heat, had a wander around at Killekrankie got here around 6.00 to grey skies. Now it's blowing a gale, raining and all looks very bleak (luckily I like bleak). It's also weirdly similar to the countryside around Lands End in Cornwall but the sea is the wrong colour (grey rather than turquoise). Looking forward to exploring tomorrow.
  15. Thank you @mistyqueenand @Puffy MacCloudhoping for a good trip. Had a slight panic the day before yesterday when I stepped away from laughing at Boris stuff on Twitter. I ventured into Facebook only to find out the ferry we were meant to be catching had run around the day before and sailing have been suspended. Luckily got booked on a different one so we'll be off on Monday as planned. Has been rather hot today.
  16. Keep on puffing @Puffy MacCloud still making me laugh. We've been to Stirling on a last minute t-shirt buying quest before we set off for Orkney next weekend. I'm very, very excited. Not a bad day weather wise bit of everything, sun, cloud, rain and breeze. Got a nice picture on my way to the train station yesterday
  17. If you can dispose of the concrete I could bring some adapted trousers for scattering the soil "great escape style". No silver spoons sadly but sure my son would lend you his quaich. Quite wet and muggy here today which was depressing as had a day of calls listening to colleagues down in the south of England talk about their BBQ plans.
  18. Appears to be a lovely evening out there, sadly I'll be spending it ferrying my 15 year old to a local chess club for his DofE. I was delighted when he said he was going to do the DofE, but now find myself taking him to Ratho for climbing on a Monday, Grangemouth for chess on a Wednesday and Callander Park for the park run on a Saturday. I'm flipping knackered with all this on top of being back in the office 3 days a week. Hopefully I'll be able to enjoy the sun on the drive down to Grangemouth
  19. Crying for a second time now but at least it's for a good reason. My husband thinks I've completely lost it. So glad to see a post from you and I hope Monday brings good news
  20. Just logged in to see how everyone was. So sorry to read this post, in tears on a windy Saturday morning.
