Although the easter period still looks on the cold side, it's not going to be as cold as indicated a few days ago. However what looks more clear is that it will be rather unsettled with low pressures running across southern parts of uk and with us mainly on the northern side of these and the colder air very close by, i can see a few snow events over easter. For now, high ground most favoured but will not take much of a change in conditions to get snow to lower levels. Very tricky period coming up and detail for easter will be a few days away yet.

Thought so, think i went to the magpie last time i went to whitby. For a few days maybe, then the snow army will be back. We need prolonged snow for any meaningful lying snow this time... And that looks very likely.

Going by tonights models, we could end up having a very snowy Easter. Low pressure very close by and with us on the northern side of these with very cold air to our north and east flooding in... Recipe for huge snow potential.

Cluster of wintry showers heading in from the north sea currently. Nothing heavy.

Thaw pretty much everywhere today, i am up gateshead way at work and very little snow here compared to home. With regards to weather going forward although a milder week ahead it is nothing to write home about... With average at best but after current cold weather it will be a noticble change. I am away in lakes easter weekend so was kinda hoping for some spring warmth to be honest. Main thing is a good dry spell next few days to dry things out.

Those snow showers eased off pretty quick around lunchtime so just cloudy with some flurries and the odd bit of brightness for this afternoon. Slight thaw here too.

The heaviest snow shower of the morning just passed over, with the wind not as strong this has gave a more even extra cover of snow. Will be tomorrow that we see a proper thaw but stil cold with a few wintry showers.

The stream of heavy snow showers over teeside us bugging the life out of me as i am just catching the northern edge of all the heavy showers here in Aycliffe.

Sorry, i couldn't stay awake any longer. Have woke up to more snow showers, however despite all of last nights snow showers and how heavy they were, not much more snow has accumulated. This down to strong wind blowing snow around. The snow and graupel to dry so not sticking. So although awesome to watch, not great for deep lying snow.

A lul here too, just missing me for past hour now with just the odd fleeting shower. Always difficult to pin point where showers will align. Of course some hit the jackpot and other get the booby prize.

Too windy and a lot has been graupel so just blowing around. Showers also passing through to quick so although very heavy at times not lasting long enough.

Because we are tough old northerners. We have become a customed to this the past few months.

Mixture of snow and graupel here all day, more of the latter. Looks like i will be up most of the night then.

They are looking much more banded together and if your under these now heavy snow showers for the rest of the night (if they continue) then some significant accumulations likely. I see no difference yet between showers over the NE to showers over South Yorkshire... In my opinion. The amber only came into effect from 4pm i think. So not including what we have seen up untill then

Found myself in the dry spot between two shower bands at the moment.

I am actually really impressed at how extensive these snow/hail showers have been all day today. To be honest looking back at radar i would say we have had most of the heavier snow showers so far along with south yorkshire which makes we think, if tonight continues then a little of me wonders why no amber warning has been extended to cover parts of our region?

Showers starting to clump together now nicely in north sea, better chance of more people seeing some snow next few hours.

Bit of a covering from this prolonged snow/hail shower...

Had some heavy hail showers this morning after some light snow showers. More gaps between showers but these more heavy than earlier. Accumulations will be temporary at low levels so will have to wait till the evening for snow to accumulate. Also a band of more intense and persistant snow showers develope over the region later tonight.
