  1. As i see it this afternoon we have a wintry mix of rain, sleet, hail and snow showers running down eastern side of our region, snow mainly on higher ground inland, with wet snow/sleet to lower levels. hopefully temps will fall this evening and with ground surfaces freezing over the snow will start to settle if this low pressure system in north sea pushes showers or persistent sleet/snow further inland later. Temp here slightly dropping to 1.7c and snowing at present but rather wet.
  2. To be fair to the meto, this is hardly disruptive snow
  3. Well still snowing here for an hour now and not stopped, pretty heavy still too... had some big flakes earlier and a slight covering now. this is more like it will be heading out up the a1 to chester-le-street very soon so will see exactly how patchy this now is and what its like at low lying areas.
  4. I think there will be many more chances of snow this coming week with models showing signs of prolonging this cold spell and th uk stuck in the battleground with snow being a fine margin on some days. tues night may get some too Also just starting to snow here now, be it very light.
  5. Was -2c when i woke up half an hour ago, pretty frosty too... temperature now rising a little as its turning cloudier and awaiting for this band of showery snow to arrive. To be honest not expecting much from this but got my eyes on later tonight for the band of possibly heavy snow showers arriving from the northeast.
  6. well as i expected, no more snow overnight here, temp now above freezing @ 1.6c currently and having a light rain shower
  7. think showers will be few and far between east of the pennines tonight... usual suspects will see a bit snow ie, consett. an occluded front may pep up the showers later tonight then a band of wintry ppn spreads south across the region in the early hours of sunday morning. I want snow and lots of it...damn it Well it's snowing here at shildon now... i'm happy
  8. don't get why people change there opinions so much within 24hrs about the model output and cold/snow potential... this cold spell is only just beginning today and over the next few days many places will see some snow... with the charts changing so much lately from one run to another i would imagine that by sunday evening the model charts will look totally different to what they do now past +120 for now there doesn't look like much in the way of milder weather coming in across uk next week, only two charts from ecm this morning showing slightly warmer uppers Even these could produce snow for some with fronts pushing into the colder are and may not make it all the way across uk with cold air in place...still all to play for i reckon!
  9. Surely we are in for some widespread snow beginning of next week, as long as there is precipitation to go with these cold uppers looking at ecm @ +144h
  10. temperature currently 0.3c in shildon and light snow at present lots of showers showing on radar now, snowing a little heavier now
  11. was snowing/hail at shildon earlier and seen two flashes of lightning while walking dog, didn't settle much... but more showers brewing from the irish sea which are sure too push further east during night
  12. Gfs - p not as pronounced as its older brother but it still could bring some snow to parts of central/northern england as shown by Gfs-p
  13. another nasty looking feature to contend with next week along with some potent lows at t+78h gfs op.
  14. Thanks for the clarification... and valued insight to weather based knowledge of which otherwise i would have no idea sometimes. hoping my part of the uk will see some snow next week from possible low pressure moving abit further south within a cold zonal pattern as latest ecm run shows @ 192h That is Durham, forgot to mention where i live.
  15. Just out of curiosity, if these predicted wind speeds were forcast further south (say midlands south to london) i would imaging we may already have a red warning as any bit of bad weather down south seems to get get more warnings and news coverage.... why may this be the case??
  16. Hi, been following this thread for a month or so now and this is my first post. I am a keen weather enthusiast and really like snow days in winter and thunder storms in summer... thought i had a good understanding of the weather and factors which change our weather here so much from day to day. however since reading these posts i understand there is alot more going on that no matter how much computer power these models have they will never be able to predict the weather too far in advance which will always make it interesting for us weather folk I live in the North East and are hoping for snow this boxing day night/saturday, also a much more prolonged cold spell which we are well overdue. Anyways, keep up the good work and insight and merry christmas
