  1. very light snow here now which will soon stop... very icy indeed tonight but i imagine with snow cover deep in many places it will be colder than expected and with a cold day tomorrow it may take a while to melt i reckon
  2. Very unexpected this snow to be honest, especially for lower lying areas below 150m. Snowing here heavily in newton aycliffe still and been this way since 12 when snow first started to accumulate on grass. Roads are a nightmare, 10 min journey took half n hour or so. Metoffice were late to issue warning and even then it was mainly for ground above 200m until updated warning at 2.05pm which it had already affected many areas. Saying all this im very happy
  3. hi all, as its winter and i love the snow its time for me to say hello in here... seems like we all got some snow last night, woke up around 1.30am and had a good covering and snow falling. then woke up just before 3am and it was already melting and sleety rain falling. Looks bitter outside this morning... bbrrrr!!!
  4. oh no, not more rain, didn't see this in the forecast this morning... even metoffice showing dry and cloudy from 4pm to 11pm with no mention of the rain thats covering large parts of northern england right now. I give up!
  5. great washing/drying day today, 6 full loads of clothes washed and dried on washing line. nice day though after another pretty rubbish week for summer... bit warmth for next few days to look forward too but not much in the the way of long sunny spells to go with the temps.
  6. cold, wet, miserable day for many today temps ranged from 11 to 13.c today when traveling around the northeast today. think i'm ready for winter now after today
  7. Hi, anyone in here been to a metoffice open day? due to go this saturday but heard some poor feedback and not sure what to expect or if it's worth the very long journey there and back... any info very welcome, cheers.
  8. I know this is way off topic but could do with some kind info on the met office open days, i am due to attend one this saturday but heard some poor feedback on them and not sure if it is worth the long drive down if you dont see much or leave dissapointed... I am very keen in all things weather so kinda want to go. Thanks
  9. i can confirm 1st flash of lightning to my south from shildon, no thunder so must have been some distance * make that a second, with rumble of thunder
  10. Starting to see storms pop up in alot of places now, many lightning strikes and think we may get alot later up here, torro issued severe thunderstorm watch for some of the northeast
  11. morning... 3 storms in one day yesterday. was woken around midnight last night to many flashes and thunder which lasted over an hour, plus heavy rain with hail mixed in. What will today have in store???
  12. Hail from earlier near chester-le-street from that supercell storm Was bigger hail elsewhere for many in co.durham... Another awesome storm
  13. Had alot of lightning from that storm here, alot cloud based. Reports of huge hail not far from me and stanley area
  14. can deffo hear the dull rumbles of thunder in distance getting louder as it gets closer, currently in shildon, near bishop auckland. county durham... twice in one day, buzzing!
  15. can hear very faint rumbles of thunder from that storm moving slightly northeast in our direction. very warm and close outside
  16. very interesting day today then, got caught in the storm @ chester-le-street around 3.30pm. lots of CG lightning and loud thunder, brief hail before a period of heavy rain but by far it was the lightning/thunder that was unbelievable... constant flashes right over head with loud bangs and crackles with no seconds between flash and thunder. had power cut for hours! very happy as thought we may have missed out today and things further west
  17. heavy rain here now, disappointing day really. As for next week, general dry theme with temps slowly recovering to just above average... as ever the warmth is to be found down south midweek nights will be chilly with slight frost at times, as summer sun mentioned above tonight should be the coldest night with a more widespread morning frost. overall dry period ahead until later in month.
  18. At last, some spring like weather... currently 17.c here in lovely sunshine with a few fluffy clouds in a slight breeze. Even sitting outside in the sun with a shandy waiting for sunday lunch
  19. big hail shower just passed through here... started as sleety rain, blizzard like hail for 5 mins before snow on its back edge as temp dropped from 7.c to just above 1.c also a slight covering on grass, cars etc now melting. Some shower that was as wind really picked up. may be quite icy in some places tonight after showers and a surprise slight covering for a lucky few on hills
  20. very windy this morning, some heavy showers through the day (possibly wintry in places, more so on high ground) with strong gusts of wind and feeling cold in wind. can't wait for the easter break and time off work... will weather play ball? Improving story as we move through the weekend with high pressure building, temps will slowly improve too
  21. what a miserable morning, cold and sleet/snow falling here... wonder how much higher up you need to be to see proper snow?? different feeling day later on this afternoon... day of two halves.
  22. Had a hail shower this morning at bowburn where i was working... biggest thing was the temperature drop travelling from 8.c at durham to 2.c at shildon around 4.30 just had i big slow moving shower which contained some huge wet flakes of snow mixed in
  23. Yep, the sun has made all the difference today, got up to about 8.c here... cloud rolling in again now so least it wont be to chilly tonight.
  24. Agree. woke up to snow here too, although not as much... mainly on cars, grass and roofs. sleety mix here now but was snowing heavily earlier. off to work soon so get to drive from here to wickham, see exactly where its rain or snow.
