  1. Or next Month... even march if things fall into place for once, well over due!
  2. Still snowing here but no where near as heavy as earlier. heaviest rain/sleet/snow running down east coastal counties as the low moves away so not expecting much more to make an impact IMBY
  3. Shame, darlo seems to stuggle to get decent snow... any reason why?
  4. thick flakes and starting to settle on grass/roofs etc here now... so there is hope
  5. till 11am for most north of durham then prob 2 - 3pm for teeside/N Y Moors say
  6. That is some heavy stuff over sunderland way, if only it was further west
  7. I'm in newton aycliffe only 20mins away and it snowing now, not lying though. sure the cold air moving south in the strong north wind behind the low will turn rain to snow soon down there.
  8. Morning, as i expected last night that the rain would turn readily to snow during this morning... just woke up and the ground is wet but snowing and getting quite heavy as it intensifys over my area. Pleased people are getting some snow, even at pretty low levels too.
  9. nothing on bbc travel... not sure how up to date it is though... high ground will see plenty tonight where ppn is prolonged on heavy! i'm in a cirlce of nothing atm.
  10. not really, colder uppers in the morning compared to now...
  11. My opinion on how tonight/tomorrow will play out... Looking at some chart data it is very marginal for rain/sleet/snow in any one place so: 1) if you live above say 200m then it is more likely be sleet then snow as the night goes on as the freezing level lowers and uppers become colder from the north. 2) as the low moves through we drag in that colder air to the north so lower lying areas with rain/sleet will start turning to snow... this more likely during the morning from say 5am onwards. 3) settling snow on low lying areas looks unlikely unless we get a period of heavy snow for a couple of hours during tomorrow morning, higher ground should get a good covering. here you see the low moving into north see and its band of sleet/snow over the northeast slowly moving away @8am also the next image shows the colder uppers/air moving down behind low from north in a northerly flow @8am move forward to 2pm you can see we are all in colder air... unfortunitaly most the ppn has also gone by this time. Latest euro 4 has snow cover around the region, but mostly high ground... So to sum up a real mix bag tonight but it wont be till we move into the morning and the colder air digs in proper that we see snow chances increase. Also friday night into saturday we could see snow showers move down the north sea and affect eastern areas which could be interesting near the time... one to watch!!!
  12. no chance of that, but don't give up hope for tomorrow morning... on typing a detailed post for tonight/tomorrow scenario!
  13. consett always does well in these situations, then 8 miles down the road in chester-le-street it does nothing but rain. looking likely to turn more to snow as thursday morning progresses.
  14. As expected, warning issued... mainly for high ground for now. Outbreaks of rain and sleet, with snow over hills will spread east during Wednesday, before increasingly turning to snow in places. This seems likely to happen during Wednesday evening across southern areas of Scotland, perhaps including parts of the central belt. The trend to wintry weather then extends into parts of northern England during the rest of Wednesday night, clearing from Yorkshire during the morning. At this stage, it looks as if the heaviest snow will affect parts of southern Scotland (for which a separate Amber warning is in force) and upland areas of northern England, including cross-Pennine routes, where 3 to 6 cm may fall in a number of areas, with possibly as much as 10 cm locally, mainly above elevations of 300 metres. Please be aware of the risk of disruption to travel, and take appropriate precautions before undertaking journeys. It will also be worth keeping fully up to date with the latest forecasts - details of amounts and areas affected may well change.
  15. Morning all, nice to to see a bright morning with a little sun... but don't be fooled as later this afternoon the cloud increases and with that showers and rain moves in associated with a low pressure system moving over the region later. This will likely produce mainly snow on higher elevations and with freezing level dropping through the evening/night then down to lower levels too. However coastal areas should keep the rain especially as winds turn more N/NE due to warm north sea. Expect meto to issue warnings this morning and several cm of lying snow in upland areas and slushy/few cms to some lower levels during the night. Into the weekend and next week, much drier and some nice winter days but cold with widespread sometime sharp frost away from coastal areas where showers will flow in off north sea from time to time, especially saturday as a shallow low passes down north sea introducing more of a NE flow... these may be wintry too. Next week staying cold as the block holds atlantic at bay... but for how long? who knows
  16. very unlikely, they will be wintry on the higher ground i would imagine and possibly in the heaviest of showers... bit sleet or hail if your lucky. should turn colder after they move through so icy in morning. tomorrow night/thursday morning is our best chance depending on where the low tracks.
  17. whole rash of showers spreading south now, alot of them heavy... if only the air was colder eh??
  18. ukmo @120, found some support for meto from gfs essembles some others too
  19. ukmo 144 vs gfs 144 soooo different again tonight, hope meto is onto something here, just wont give it up!
  20. Agree, some nice frosty mornings. hopefully tomorrow night/thursday morning will deliver. showers across the region for rest of today/evening... mostly of rain though.
  21. yes higher places look decent for some snow, especially pennine areas and north yorkshire moors. wed night/thurs morning but also tomorrow maybe... not sure how much will actually settle but sure ppl in here will keep us informed
  22. ukmo @ 120 still looks better for high pressure to build in over uk and prevent atlantic for time being
  23. it still exists??? yey just caught a glimpse of it here too... although its still foggy and cold. No showers today that were forecast only 24 hours ago or so, shows how things can change in short period of time. that low to the east in north sea is expected to affect east coastal areas tomorrow though.
