  1. Unbelievable wind! Getting really fed up with these storms now.
  2. No wonder they don't mind cold since they work in an office. Easy. They might change opinion if working outdoors all day. Crisp, sunny mornings are better than wet cloudy ones even they are colder, but often it is cold AND wet. "Out of office of course"
  3. At least 15 showers today, some merged into longer spells of rain in the morning, hours of rain in total - at least it is 10C, not miserable 4. Sunshine amount = zero, cloud amount 8/8 all day, cloud base not higher than 150-200m.
  4. 7.8 C here, it was cloudy with heavy showers in the morning, but now it is only partly cloudy. This cold snap here produced some disgusting northerly winds, to reduce the temp to 2-3 C for sleet showers (it is a different story on the Welsh mountain tops which are white). IMO mild and cloudy (even with SW wind) is way better than the cloudy and windy 4-5C ("seasonal") crap (especially if one has to work outdoors). If it cannot be crispy with some frost in the morning or some snow, I well prefer 10-12C with occasional rain. We might finally get 1 frosty morning tomorrow, which will be the highlight of this "cold snap".
  5. Where is the brightness the BBC (and ITV) forecasted here ? - nowhere. Dull and dark.
  6. Chucking down with some horrible wind for hours. Zero rain shadow effect...
  7. Although just 20 miles away, Snowdonia should get 100-150mm by Sunday evening? It will be very interesting to see our rain shadow effect here in the vale of Clwyd...
  8. Wonderful example of rain shadow effect of Snowdonia and surrounding hills here again today: 4-5 hours of sunshine, clouds all around but in the middle of the valley, blue skies above us, no rain apart from 5 mins of drizzle. I would do with this all Winter, just perfect wind direction, exactly from Snowdonia.
  9. Well, no forecast mentioned what has happened: 4,5-5 hours of sunshine between 10am and 4pm in Saint Asaph, middle of the Vale of Clwyd, with continuous sun between 11am and 2pm. I would call the mildness nice, not horrible, especially if you have to work in an unheated environment. Nothing wrong with it until December (the plants which are dormant until the end of January, don't mind it either). I love frosty mornings and snow but certainly not between the mild and the frosty, useless 5-8C. So if it cannot snow or be frosty, I don't mind if it is mild.
  10. yes, nothing is ugly in nature including heavy grey skies as all clouds are unique so they are all interesting but certainly for most people, it does not look beautiful if they last a week and don't feel dramatic at all if it is painted homogeneous grey stratus (even if it is "expected" in November) and not a bubbling cumulonimbus or at least stratocumulus - maybe you don't have to work outdoors all day (sorry if I'm wrong)...But to keep it in the right thread, I wanted to see sunny outlook on the models but I could not find it
  11. Just switched on the lights. Clouds cannot be darker than this.
  12. Sunshine through high clouds. No fog. T min was 3.0C.
  13. Wall to wall sunshine, blue skies, zero wind. Second day in a row. I will note this in my diary - might not happen again soon..
  14. Not a cloud in the sky today - no fog, no wind just blue skies in the Vale of Clwyd from sunrise to sunset, wall to wall sunshine. Went to Broughton around midday: fog, Llandudno around 3pm: fog. We would be very lucky to get away without fog tomorrow morning though.
  15. Beautiful Sunny weather (if a little hazy) after 11am today with some high clouds, exactly which was not forecasted for today but for yesterday - when it was dark with thick cloud all the way after 2pm.
  16. I know but I almost live in NW England, and found it busier than the Welsh thread, I will copy to that one too. It would be better to have a NW England and North Wales thread.
  17. I love this word; "brighter" - it can mean anything from stratus with a few holes to high cloud to sunny spells, so the forecaster is never wrong. For a change, sunshine with some cirrus after midday here, lovely blue skies and no wind. A rare event, especially in Autumn..
  18. Yet another failed forecast for here, oh yes, North Wales getting sunny this afternoon: not a second of sunshine - when the stratus mess wanted to move away to the W, more cloud filled in and the whole cloud cover extended back to E. Laughable.
  19. It is just unbelievably hard to get a sunny high pressure in this part of the World, no matter what season. Heavy grey skies again. T as of 09.00 = 10.4C.
  20. Ground frost this morning, a little sun and then clouds arrived from the E an hour ago. Another failed "sunny" forecast.
  21. even managed to rain for half an hour yesterday morning around 10am - no mention of that in the METO forecast. Clear skies for now (at last).
