If you are such an expert on such things what is your announcement in detail to keep everyone calm? Too be honest this isn’t a great deal different from telling your children about a problem. Don’t worry. We are doing our best. We are positive it can be controlled. We are throwing large amounts a money at the problem.

Aren’t you suppose to use olive oil and scrape it off like in the Roman baths? Thinking of that Italy might not be a too good example at the moment

Nice that we can vote what we think at the end of the day. Does the same apply if you have a Chinese take away?

Are other countries looking at a wider picture other than just coping with fighting the virus? Thinking of UK’s response of dealing with virus, helping firms and workers in the interim and hopefully keeping the economy alive in the longer term.

Yes they Could but no they didn’t. We won’t know until hindsight kicks in if that was a mistake or not.

One certainty in all this is the government (or anyone else for that matter) will get something wrong. Hopefully they will get it more right than wrong.

Mr Cynical, Think they have been pretty up front. At no time said it was going to stop or go away. Difficult judgement call. Be seriously scaremongering or what they are doing?

I think for many people they are already taking there own steps to protect themselves by in particular not going places where they will be in close contact. Told the wife no more sex for the time being. She said oh good!

I write to my MP from time to time. Just emailed her saying that restrictions should be brought in PDQ. Also the Government should follow their own advice and self isolate. Are our MP’s going to? Probably not but if you don’t tell them they won’t know how we feel. The electorate have long memories. Why not write yours. Easy enough to find their contact details on line

When I said some time back I was surprised that EU was not apparently too involved with the epidemic quite a few came back saying it was up to each country to deal with it. Why is EU’s involvement now having a slightly higher profile?
