Maybe you need to move to an elevated rural location?  We’ve had this winter, amongst the rain and wind, at least half a dozen days where it barely got much above freezing in the sun, with the shaded pond frozen for nearly a week!

Again that doesn't make a Winter of any kind.Winter is a 90 day period, not 8 or 10. Just the same as we are remined in the Summer months over and over and  over again that a month doesn't make a summer😉

Nope, we’ve had plenty of wintery months since then, February and March 2013, February and March 2018, January 2021 and December 2022…

Sorry but your just quoting months with a negative cet figure, as far as i can see none are more negative than 2.5 if that, December 2010 was far more, a proper winters month, the last one. look at the summer cet figures for the last decade and a half, totally different.

Hope you can get my point now🙂

Lack of winter?  We've just had two weeks of frigidly cold temperatures and two wind storms and a winter of temps around 10c (50f)....That is our usual winter, apart from northern areas of the uk we are hardly siberia.

Two weeks of slightly colder temps and 2 wind storms to not make a Winter. Just like so so many quote in the Summer months that 2 weeks of higher temps do not make a summer!

And I bet there would have been coldies complaining on here back in the very mild February 2011 after we had the (almost) coldest December on record…

Seriously? Your quoting a month from nearly 14 years ago!!! Doesn't that prove how long it has been since a proper winters month?!!!

to be fair, you can imagine why warm weather fans were going so crazy back in July and August

Not really as it came off the hottest June ever recorded in the UK. One actual Winter a decade would be good, we aren't even getting that. Honestly can't see what warm weather fans can moan at, Scotland's all-time  record of this month has just gone, below average monthly temps are as extinct as a dodo now. Yet they still complain.😲

It is winter, just not as cold as some wish it to be

This certainly can't be classed as winter for most, yes some winter weather but for the majority nothing, bear in mind i live in the pennies and travel daily across them.

Depends what you define as 'Winterless' I suppose - I'm sure Sheffield has experienced some freeezing weather just like the rest of us recently, albeit I suspect your dissatisfaction is at the lack of snowfall(?)

It is interesting how we're separated by just 20 miles but you didn't get much - those Pennines act as a shield don't they. (It works the other way round too of course - yorks gets a coating but doesn't make it over to my side!)

It has been the same for last several years, the odd colder interlude but thats it just like this year, a few days of proper weather do not make a winter, just like in summer, a week of heatwave doesn't make a summer apparently.

I know Delph well, used to live at Grasscroft. Always good hunting ground for a bit of proper weather.

Lets hope not, we need a proper Winter for once!

Looks like the rain is coming back as well. Oh well, at least it will be mild! 😆

Probably a large ridge ridge of high pressure to our east, pulling up the wind from the south, but with no low pressure close to the UK. It’s certainly possible, we had a day in December when it was around 12°C and sunny in many places.

Yes, I’m really looking forward to it as well.. Can’t wait for the overcast skies, drizzle, and highs of a balmy 10-11°C… Going to be glorious.. Might even get the BBQ and paddling pool out…

£10 a month sounds a lot for air con.. That’s around £300 per month. Do you cool your house down to single figures…? 🥶😉

Just the bedroom. Shows how it is more expensive to cool down than warm up!

No it gets reduced to 18C. Problem is if you just turn it completely off for 8 or 9 hours so much warmth is lost you just spent extra warming it back up from 14-16C.

Yes, but nothing more than the lightest of dusting.

18c over night is high, very high to be honest, ever thought of individual rad stats, they may help keep the rooms you want higher but keep the bedrooms cooler, no point in heating a bedroom in my opinion, your warm enough as it is! Have to be honest your costs are higher than even what i pay in the summer months for the aircon, its normally no more than a tenner a day. It does sound like your house is very poorly insulated.

20C isn’t that high for a stat setting, 17-22°C is a normal range. Not everyone goes sitting around thier house in winter with the windows open and the heating off, you know…

Still miserable and gloomy here but milder than yesterday, currently 6.5°C with 86% humidity.

For the volume of gas being used by the poster i suspect strongly he retains the stat at 20c over night. Why i have no idea. A utterly pointless and expensive exercise.
