  1. What do the mad thread/snow chasers really want? There has been snowfall in several places across the UK and still it isn't good enough for some folk. Will they only be happy if we get 10-12 ft of snow, communities cut off, transport at a standstill and then the potential of flooding when it all starts to thaw?

Nothing wrong with looking for the next chase as long as people keep their feet on the ground.  It would be the same in summer with folk looking for the next potential heatwave following a breakdown to unsettled conditions.  The difference is people would get less stick for doing that!

Not sure i have seen too many people on the forums chasing the the next heatwave but there may be a few. Mad thread is clutching at best most of the time.

Can’t help but think looking at the models beyond the mild spell, trying to find any hope of further cold/snowy weather is just setting yourself up for further disappointment.

There already at it. Mild temperatures predicted until almost month end come the weekend and they are already saying 'Signs it's getting cold again' 'the next chase is on' 'February could be exciting'

BBC probably too high for the first few days anyways.

For example, out of the GFS, GEM and ECM ensemble runs (so your talking about 100 seperate runs) only 4 have temperatures of 5c or above for London on the 16th.

96% are colder. ECM ensembles have 1.7c as an average, GEM 1.4 and the GFS 2.1c.

Upto 20th the ensembles of most models lingering around that 1-2.5c range for London, albeit with ever increasing range of options.

With that being said, I think night mins might end up being more notable anyways...

Haha sorry that went right over my head! Whatever it means i'll take your word for it 😁

I can't imagine a worse hobby than snow chasing/Model watching.

They spend hours looking at charts, trying to understand the nuances of all the signals etc but are completely at the mercy of factors out of their control as to a favourable outcome that history dictates rarely happens in the UK.

Seriously bad for mental health and real social interaction.

Couldn’t agree more. Do they go back to normal life come spring?

Another day, another set of model runs for everyone to argue about on the mod thread , and yet another day to argue if we are going to get another ,1947, 62/63 ,81/82 ,2010 etc ,on models which only show anything worth talking about Snowmageddon in about three weeks time....!😆

'We are heading into the freezer'

    'Things are looking very interesting'

    'Time to get excited'

Whilst it looks like we are moving to a colder weather pattern, and MIGHT even see some January snow (something of a rarity, these days) the hysteria in the MAD thread seems somewhat over the top. But, hey, the weather will do what the weather will do. . . :drunk-emoji:

Somebody was getting so nervous looking at the models it made there IBS flare up. Another was behind his sofa looking at models on his phone. What a strange bunch.

From the met office blog issued today for later next week and leading up to Christmas.

"At this stage, there is very little sign of any widespread or severe cold and wintry weather.”

As we go through the rest of this week the jet stream will shift further north allowing high pressure to build.

Over in the 'mad' thread they will have you believe that cold weather is on the way and there is reason to get excited 😁
