  1. Some really heavy showers overnight in Kingsbridge, but lightning further away. Never mind! Maybe another chance later today.
  2. In an elevated position here in Kingsbridge, we have a fantastic view to the E and SE of all the lightning high up in the clouds. Like a disco!
  3. Ha! Just as I posted, a flash of lightning and a rolling boom to the east...then another boom Reading the storm forecasts, am I correct in saying that these storms are the first part, with the second more widespread part forecast for later this evening and overnight?
  4. Some heavy rain in Kingsbridge, looks torrential looking out to the east and south east. No thunder or lightning though!
  5. Sun back out in Kingsbridge, we had several near(ish) bolts of lightning about 2 hours ago. Feels incredibly oppressive though, humidity must have shot up?! Certainly doesn't feel remotely fresher! Looking at the temperatures further east and it is just unbelievable to see some of the figures posted before midday. I totally get they were predicted for today, but even so...
  6. Just had a few rumbles of thunder in Kingsbridge. Some big drops of rain but nothing significant as yet. The sky is really dark and barely a puff of wind. Hard to describe how tropical it feels out, my car thermometer went no lower than 27deg on the way home. It doesn't feel remotely refreshing out there!
  7. Well it was certainly a hot one! We are up the top of Kingsbridge and there is a very brisk easterly wind blowing now. Very, very nice indeed!
  8. I can't believe what I'm seeing, 41 degrees in Devon! Genuinely terrifying, not going to lie The UK record must surely be at risk over the next 7-10 days, hopefully the heat will be toned down a bit.
  9. Absolutely, popped my fleece on this evening! Rotten down in Kingsbridge tonight, but the rain is definitely welcome. Looks like it will be settled by the weekend too
  10. Walking home from work in Kingsbridge and there was a big crack of thunder about 15 min ago. This lot has just passed the town. Looking NE (photo with small trees in field) and SE (hedge) from the top of KB... M5 around Cullompton must be horrendous with those purples on the radar...if its getting to the ground?!
  11. Torrential rain and several large cracks of thunder. Does seem to be brightening up from the south at last
  12. Sustained heavy rain and rumbles of thunder every few mins in Kingsbridge. Holidaymakers sheltering away! Another loud boom of thunder as I type... You would imagine there's some localised flooding in and around KB and Salcombe.
  13. Ooh, bright flash and short but loud crack of thunder there
  14. Can hear the storm south of Salcombe here in Kingsbridge. Interesting structure to it when you do the radar loop.
  15. Met Office thunderstorm yellow warning out for overnight into early Saturday... UK weather warnings WWW.METOFFICE.GOV.UK Met Office UK weather warnings for rain, snow, wind, fog and ice. Choose your location to keep up to date with local weather warnings.
  16. A basic video but you'll eventually see in the centre right a flash of lightning! Woo! 20220518_221705.mp4
  17. Wow! We are in Kingsbridge, South Devon. Have a clear view east as we are fairly high up and I can see the flashes of those storms from here! Cloud tops must be very, very high. That's got to be at least 100-120 miles away
  18. Looking SE from just outside Kingsbridge. That's got to be the storms out to the NW of the Channel Islands?
  19. Fence properly done for in Kingsbridge! Didn't stand a chance with the sustained wind for the past 3 hours... Wind still incredibly gusty, seems to have moderated a very small amount since 11am. But still not pleasant at all. 122mph at The Needles absolutely no surprise at all!
  20. Fence down! V windy up the top of Kingsbridge. Correct decision to shut schools etc. Absolutely no safe at all. Wine shop where I work is shut this morning, hopefully in later this afternoon once it calms a little...
  21. I wouldn't want to be in the Met's shoes having to decide on where a red warning should go. What is clear though is the winds are going to hit at busy times during the day. The SW in general is going to see it bad during rush hour and the school run. Many thousands of people will be preparing to travel down for half term. So even if we see the winds drop a notch, the severity of impact is still going to be high because of the numbers of people scheduled to be out and about. That all said, I can totally understand the desire to hold off as late as possible. The public in general need to be in a position to readily accept the warning and act properly. Also the consequences of schools etc potentially being shut means certain businesses will not be able to open, which has its own financial impact. It's a very complex mix and isn't just down to whether the wind gusts are going to be 80mph or 85mph.
  22. Been following over the past 24 hours, what's obvious is the huge level of uncertainty. Must be a real headache for the forecasters, there are a range of outcomes and the most severe ones may not become evident until much closer to time. I work in a wine shop, we've discussed trying to avoid as many Friday deliveries as possible in case it's wild! Get your wine in nice and early is what I'd say
  23. Looking out to sea in Salcombe with the South Sands Ferry in view. Ridiculously humid. Not expecting much else now though but you never know...
  24. Wow, what a start to the day! Flash flooding going into Kingsbridge from West Alvington about 8.15. My wife works at school and they have been flooded in some parts of the building, but thankfully not too serious. Then plenty of forked lightning which we had an amazing view of parked up the top of town. Now round two in Salcombe! Less frequent lightning but heavy rain. Here's a nice shot looking down towardsNorth Sands with a beautiful cloudscape (photo doesn't do it justice)
