Rain on and off throughout the night sometimes very heavy indeed. very noisey due to the metal roof. as i'm at work not sure of the temp but felt rather mild.

21 days without a drop then at 1725 on Friday the 13th BOOM 12mm in just 20 mins.
As it passed, trailing edge gave some rather mean & loud thunder claps.
should do enough to dampen the tinder dry moorland and give the fire brigade a break

The real acid test for me will be my run of night shifts over this weekend. Up until now I've been enjoying the warmth.
I've been on nights since monday and i'm starting to feel like a zombie, have only managed to get 3, 4hours max (if i'm lucky) due to the day time heat so good luck

Not had much in the way of heavy rain in my location, seems to skirt around either side.
Mind you, i do have part of my foof off at present so it can stay away until the builders have finished

Oceanography was a job that i hoped would turn into a life long career but family issues forced me to change my path in life but i still follow all i can on the subject.
I don't believe the AMOC will stop like some doom sayers mention but even a small reduction in the flow will and i believe already has begun to change the weather in the UK.

Would love to visit the Moorlands sometime but I don't drive. I was going to walk round the local parks and nature reserves this weekend instead but there's no point now.
Regular bus service from hanley to leek.
From there you can comute to Rudyard or blackshaw moor

Is Stoke the only place to miss out all week? It feels like it My Facebook is full of snowy photos from all my friends and family across the UK. How ironic that the coldest and most snowy spell for the UK in years is the worst of the winter here.
Come on matt, chin up.
Theres still time and if all else fails you can drive up the road into the moorlands tomorrow. Mate of mine took 3 hours to get from Leek to Rushton, ended up dumping his car and getting a friend to pick him up in a landy.

Well the uplift in wind speed through out this afternoon has certainly changed things a bit. Had 6cm on grass and garage roof but the high wind has stripped most of it away. Heightening the drifts and cresting off the fields onto the roads, proper blizzard now?

Surely that heat would set up a bigger gradient than that of the countryside?
Yes that was my thought. However exteme weather can sometimes do odd things, i would think that the experts in weather forcasting will be going over the data for this wintry spell for a long time.

Interesting comments today about snow melting rapidly and also diverting around large urban area's.
Modern living ,concrete tarmac lack of green space and my pet hate ripping up gardens to park more bloody motors, increase the heat absorbed from the sun by a large amount

Another heavy shower followed by a break in the clouds, sod this window watching. Boots, coat, hat and gloves I'm off out for a long walk??
-
Visibility down to 50m very heavy snow shower
-
Just been outside, cold clear and crisp. Good day for a long walk over frozen solid ground. Temps should keep the small amount of snow we've had from melting so not too disheartened tbh.

5 shades of pink, best idea is to ignore the first shade take the second with a pinch of salt and hope for one of the remaining shades to pass over your location.

Here's a track from the soundtrack to an old SNES game from 1994 called 'Donkey Kong Country' called 'Northern Hemispheres' which featured on a couple of the snow themed levels. They went for a very atmospheric type of theme in the game which fitted perfectly, as in these levels it starts off calm clear and icy and as you progressed a snowstorm was brewing up in the background which moves into the foreground as a heavy blizzard and the music starts getting more tense. It only lasts a few minutes then just keeps on playing on loop. It's good blizzard music though. Anyway enjoy.
Had that used to play it with my eldest son
