It then quickly turned milder again, with 17.4°C being recorded 2 days later. Mid-month saw a calmer spell with average temperatures before the wind turned to the east bringing misty and gloomy days and some cold nights. For a period of 10 days midmonth the minimum temperature did not rise above 4.6°C. The last part of the month saw the wind turn south-westerly bringing much milder air from the south, allowing the temperature to reach 19.4°C on the 29th. To summerise, another mild April very much above the 1971-2000 average. However the difference here to past months is that the higher average temperature was brought about not by a high average minimum, but a high average maximum.
  2. A terrible day so far. It has been overcast, humid with continuous light rain all morning. Only in the last 15 minutes or so has it started to brighten up. Current Temp: 14.2°C Humidity: 87% Pressure: 1010.8hPa (Falling) Dewpoint: 12.0°C Wind: NW (3mph)
  3. A wonderful day. It remained sunny with only light patchy high cloud which occasionally made the sunshine hazy. The temperature today was also noteworthy as the warmest of the year so far. In a light south-westerly wind coupled with extremely low humidity (down to 47%) it felt very pleasant indeed. This evening it has remained clear with the temperature slowly dropping but still at around 12°C - a very warm night to come. Today's high maximum temperature has also shifted my average back to the 9.0°C mark once again, approaching 1.0°C above average. Current Temp: 12.1°C Max Temp: 19.4°C (at 16:49) Min Temp: 6.4°C (at 05:34) Humidity: 72% Pressure: 1015.8hPa (Falling) Dewpoint: 7.1°C Wind: SW (Calm) My April average currently stands at 9.0°C (+0.9°C Above the 1971-2000 average). Note: For some reason I had the 1971-2000 average as 7.6°C, the value is actually 8.1°C.
  4. A typical April day, with mostly cloudy skies, occasional sunny spells and the odd heavy shower. One of the showers even had a rumble of thunder mixed in for good measure. It was also a mild day, the second mildest maxima of the month so far, along with the mildest minima. This enabled the average for the month to increase to 1.2°C above average, therefore with the next few days looking mild it seems April will finish well above average. Current Temp: 7.7°C Max Temp: 16.7°C (at 16:06) Min Temp: 7.4°C (at 02:59) Humidity: 84% Pressure: 1014.2hPa (Rising) Dewpoint: 5.1°C Wind: SSE (5mph) My April average currently stands at 8.8°C (+1.2°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  5. The morning started off overcast and wet, but the rain quickly stopped by around 10am and it brightened up a bit. This drier spell turned out to be short lived though, as heavy rain came over once again mid-afternoon along with more overcast skies. This evening has seen much of the same, with heavy rain at times and quite mild temperatures after a warm day in general. At present the wind has just veered from the SE to the SW, coupled with a slight strengthening as the trough approaches. Current Temp: 8.4°C Max Temp: 16.1°C (at 12:53) Min Temp: 5.5°C (at 03:17) Humidity: 91% Pressure: 1005.2hPa (Falling) Dewpoint: 7.0°C Wind: SSW (3mph) My April average currently stands at 8.7°C (+1.1°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  6. Another clear day from start to finish. It was very pleasant in the sun, but a little nippy in the cool easterly wind. This evening has seen the appearance of some patchy cloud, but nothing major. Current Temp: 7.1°C Max Temp: 14.5°C (at 14:29) Min Temp: 5.0°C (at 05:25) Humidity: 85% Pressure: 1010.9hPa (Steady) Dewpoint: 4.7°C Wind: ESE (2mph) My April average currently stands at 8.6°C (+1.0°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  7. Currently gloriously sunny with excellent visibility and not a cloud in the sky. Current Temp: 12.1°C Humidity: 76% Pressure: 1010.6hPa (Rising) Dewpoint: 7.9°C Wind: NNE (3mph) Yesterday (24/04/2005) Yesterday was much like today has started, from start to finish completely clear skies with some lovely sunshine. It did feel cool in the breeze at times, but even in temperatures just above 12°C it was quite pleasant. Max Temp: 12.5°C (at 15:30) Min Temp: 3.6°C (at 04:10) My April average currently stands at 8.6°C (+1.0°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  8. Today has been another gloriously sunny day, with almost unbroken sunshine from start to finish. A little cloud started to bubble up in the evening but it was few and far between. In the sun it felt quite pleasant today, but with a light easterly/north-easterly wind it did feel chilly at times, but overall not too uncomfortable. Tonight the temperature seems to have stabilised at around 5°C as cloud continues to build, a ground frost looks unlikely. Current Temp: 5.3°C Max Temp: 12.4°C (at 13:58) Min Temp: 3.6°C (at 03:48) Humidity: 86% Pressure: 1013.1hPa (Steady) Dewpoint: 3.1°C Wind: NE (4mph) My April average currently stands at 8.6°C (+1.0°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  9. The morning started off with another ground frost after the temperature earlier almost reached the freezing mark. It was however sunny for the whole day, with not a single cloud in the sky for the most part. It actually felt very pleasant despite only reaching around 14°C, but the easterly breeze strengthened mid-afternoon making it feel much chillier. This evening has seen cloud build up and clear spells are becoming fewer and further between, despite this the temperature is again dropping quickly meaning another ground frost is possible. Interestingly, it has now been over a week since a minimum over 4.6°C has been recorded, quite astonishing for April. Current Temp: 4.3°C Max Temp: 14.1°C (at 13:20) Min Temp: 0.1°C (at 06:30) Humidity: 82% Pressure: 1013.4hPa (Falling) Dewpoint: 1.4°C Wind: E (3mph) My April average currently stands at 8.6°C (+1.0°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  10. A glorious day, the morning started totally clear after a cold start and a ground frost. Cloud did bubble up slightly around midday, however by around 5pm this had all disappeared to give a clear evening. At the moment the sky is still clear, meaning the temperature is falling quickly, so there could be another ground frost tonight. Interestingly, my mean minimum temperature for April is currently 3.8°C, a tad cooler than March which was 4.0°C. The April average also dropped a little today from the cold night, but still remains well above average here despite a lot of other places in the country with values approaching average. Current Temp: 3.9°C Max Temp: 14.4°C (at 15:08) Min Temp: 2.2°C (at 05:31) Humidity: 87% Pressure: 1018.7hPa (Falling) Dewpoint: 1.9°C Wind: ESE (4mph) My April average currently stands at 8.6°C (+1.0°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  11. Currently mostly cloudy and dry, feeling chilly despite the lack of any breeze. Current Temp: 3.6°C Humidity: 89% Pressure: 1020.7hPa (Rising) Dewpoint: 1.9°C Wind: ENE (Calm)
  12. A completely overcast, dull and drizzly day. Typical of an April easterly in this location. The rain did eventually die out after midday, but it stayed cool for the whole of the day, only hitting a maximum just before 4pm. Winds have been relatively light but it still felt extremely chilly today, especially so now as temperatures have taken a tumble in clearing skies. With such a high humidity, mist has never been far away either, although visibility has improved as the evening went on. Current Temp: 3.6°C Max Temp: 8.6°C (at 15:53) Min Temp: 4.1°C (at 23:59) Humidity: 89% Pressure: 1020.7hPa (Rising) Dewpoint: 1.9°C Wind: ENE (Calm) My April average currently stands at 8.7°C (+1.1°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  13. The morning started bright with sunny spells and a light breeze after a rather cool night with clear skies. This continued until mid-afternoon when it became more overcast with the wind becoming stronger. This evening then saw the arrival of persistent rain, heavy at times, along with an increasingly chilly north-easterly wind. There are currently overcast skies with light drizzle and a slight mist, but temperatures are holding up due to the cloudy skies. Current Temp: 5.9°C Max Temp: 13.1°C (at 11:54) Min Temp: 2.6°C (at 05:00) Humidity: 91% Pressure: 1009.9hPa (Rising) Dewpoint: 4.5°C Wind: NE (6mph) My April average currently stands at 8.8°C (+1.2°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  14. This morning started overcast with rain which was heavy at times, it was also quite windy. By mid-afternoon the rain stopped and the cloud broke to give a few sunny spells. At present the skies are almost totally clear as it has been all evening, a good chance of a ground frost should it continue. Current Temp: 4.8°C Max Temp: 13.3°C (at 14:15) Min Temp: 4.5°C (at 23:07) Humidity: 85% Pressure: 1001.5hPa (Rising) Dewpoint: 2.4°C Wind: SSE (1mph) My April average currently stands at 8.9°C (+1.3°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  15. This morning saw a foggy start with a ground frost from the cold minimum last night. The fog soon lifted and the morning remained mostly clear with a slight mist and felt rather pleasant with a light breeze. After midday the cloud thickened and the wind became stronger making it feel much cooler despite temperatures still being well into double figures. The evening has seen some rain but this has stopped and at present it is overcast but dry with a south-easterly breeze making it feel chilly despite the temperature holding up. With a cold night and warm day, there was a huge 14.5°C difference between the minimum and maximum temperatures, this also meant the average temperature for the month was relatively unaffected today. Current Temp: 7.8°C Max Temp: 14.9°C (at 14:50) Min Temp: 0.4°C (at 06:47) Humidity: 90% Pressure: 995.8hPa (Falling) Dewpoint: 6.3°C Wind: SE (9mph) My April average currently stands at 8.9°C (+1.3°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  16. A mostly cloudy but dry day, with occasional bright spells. It did feel quite chilly in the wind earlier on, but after midday it felt warmer as the temperature quickly passed the 12°C mark. This evening has seen a sharp drop in temperature and is still falling, a slight chance of a ground frost if it continues as the wind is now very light. The cool temperatures also chipped 0.1°C from the average for the month, which still remains well above average for now. Current Temp: 3.8°C Max Temp: 12.6°C (at 15:09) Min Temp: 3.2°C (at 03:00) Humidity: 85% Pressure: 1008.5hPa (Falling) Dewpoint: 1.5°C Wind: S (2mph) My April average currently stands at 8.9°C (+1.3°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  17. It was generally cloudy, dull and dry until around 4pm when the rain arrived. This then continued into the evening and was quite heavy at times. At present it is dry and overcast with temperatures steady after a generally cool day once again. Current Temp: 5.2°C Max Temp: 10.1°C (at 14:33) Min Temp: 4.6°C (at 06:20) Humidity: 92% Pressure: 1002.9hPa (Steady) Dewpoint: 4.0°C Wind: SSW (10mph) My April average currently stands at 9.0°C (+1.4°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  18. With winds coming from a more easterly direction off of the North Sea, it was inevitable today that it would be cloudy and dull here. Despite the dullness and low cloud, it did suprisingly stay dry all day, every single shower missed my location, rather unusual. Temperatures have been around the average by day and above average by night, with high humidity compared to lately. Despite the low maximum, the April average temperature is still well above average due to the mild nights. Current Temp: 6.3°C Max Temp: 12.4°C (at 15:02) Min Temp: 6.2°C (at 23:22) Humidity: 88% Pressure: 1001.7hPa (Rising) Dewpoint: 4.4°C Wind: ESE (4 mph) My April average currently stands at 9.1°C (+1.5°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  19. A very different day compared to the last few. The morning started mostly cloudy with a little hazy sunshine before clouding over completely by 11am with a little light drizzle in the wind. This continued into the late-afternoon, barely wetting the ground until heavier rain arrived this evening. Tonight it is now dry again, with overcast skies and a light south-easterly wind. It has been a cooler day today than recently, peaking at around 11am before the cold front passed over. Current Temp: 6.7°C Max Temp: 12.3°C (at 11:15) Min Temp: 6.3°C (at 22:35) Humidity: 88% Pressure: 1001.2hPa (Falling) Dewpoint: 4.8°C Wind: ESE (4mph) My April average currently stands at 9.1°C (+1.5°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  20. Once again another day with a fine and sunny start but quickly clouding over to give a little hazy sunshine and otherwise cloudy skies. It has also been a completely dry day again, with very low humidity (43% at 17:01). Tonight has seen thicker cloud move in, holding up the temperature. Both the maximum and minimum temps were again well above average, further increasing the April average to over 9°C, could be a very mild month now. Current Temp: 9.0°C Max Temp: 16.6°C (at 14:35) Min Temp: 7.1°C (at 04:56) Humidity: 63% Pressure: 1013.9hPa (Falling Rapidly) Dewpoint: 2.3°C Wind: WNW (4mph) My April average currently stands at 9.1°C (+1.5°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  21. The morning started off beautifully with clear skies and lots of sunshine. However once again by midday it clouded over, leaving a little hazy sunshine and a cool feel in a strong breeze. In the evening the sky cleared once again allowing some more sunshine before clouding over tonight and holding up the temperature in double figures so far. Once again it was another mild one, with a maximum of just over 15°C, last night however was relatively chilly, hence the average only increased by 0.1°C above the 1971-2000 average. Current Temp: 10.1°C Max Temp: 15.1°C (at 13:40) Min Temp: 4.6°C (at 05:55) Humidity: 74% Pressure: 1022.7hPa (Falling) Dewpoint: 5.6°C Wind: S (3mph) My April average currently stands at 8.8°C (+1.2°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  22. Current Conditions: Clear, sunny and calm, a glorious morning. Current Temp: 11.8°C Humidity: 73% Pressure: 1027.3hPa (Rising) Dewpoint: 7.1°C Wind: W (7mph) Yesterday's Min/Max Max Temp: 17.4°C Min Temp: 6.9°C Yesterday was the warmest day so far this April. It started clear and relatively mild before clouding over as the warm front passed over around midday. After the front had moved over the skies cleared and the wind died down giving a glorious end to the afternoon. This allowed the temperature to reach 17.4°C, my highest April max so far. Despite clear skies, the minimum was also the highest this April. These values bumped up my average temperature by almost half a degree, so it is now once again well above average. My April average currently stands at 8.7°C (+1.1°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  23. This morning started off cold, crisp and clear with a frost and a little of yesterdays dusting of snow remaining. However by 9am the temperature had already risen sharply to 9°C and put an end to that. Around midday it then clouded over and despite reaching 11.6°C still felt very cold in a strong NW'erly wind. This evening has remained cloudy and the temperature is holding up so no chance of a frost. After this recent cold spell my average April temperature has also come down significantly, but it will rise again by Monday no doubt. Current Temp: 7.1°C Max Temp: 11.6°C (at 12:42) Min Temp: -0.6°C (at 00:51) Humidity: 83% Pressure: 1018.5hPa (Steady) Dewpoint: 4.4°C Wind: WNW (11mph) My April average currently stands at 8.3°C (+0.7°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  24. Report for Friday as I missed the Friday thread A cold and rainy start followed by a partly cloudy and dry day. Later on some heavy snow showers passed over with the last of these giving a dusting on cars, grass and roofs. Tonight has seen skies totally clear and temperatures drop below freezing with a hard frost. With northerly winds today reaching almost gale force at times it has felt very cold indeed, colder in fact than the late-Feb easterly did. Very interesting weather for April! The current cold snap has taken its toll on the average temperature aswell, dropping some 0.7°C today but still well above the 1971-2000 average. Current Temp: -0.2°C Max Temp: 6.8°C (at 11:20) Min Temp: -0.4°C (at 22:12) Humidity: 82% Pressure: 1019.9hPa (Rising) Dewpoint: -2.8°C Wind: N (7mph) My April average currently stands at 8.7°C (+1.1°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  25. Had 4 heavy snow showers tonight after a mainly dry day and some rain early this morning. The last of the snow showers lasted around 25 minutes and has left a dusting on the grass, cars and roofs. There was a maximum temperature today of only 6.8°C, which just goes to show a northerly even in April can be quite potent.
