  1. The morning started off beautifully with clear skies and lots of sunshine. However once again by midday it clouded over, leaving a little hazy sunshine and a cool feel in a strong breeze. In the evening the sky cleared once again allowing some more sunshine before clouding over tonight and holding up the temperature in double figures so far. Once again it was another mild one, with a maximum of just over 15°C, last night however was relatively chilly, hence the average only increased by 0.1°C above the 1971-2000 average. Current Temp: 10.1°C Max Temp: 15.1°C (at 13:40) Min Temp: 4.6°C (at 05:55) Humidity: 74% Pressure: 1022.7hPa (Falling) Dewpoint: 5.6°C Wind: S (3mph) My April average currently stands at 8.8°C (+1.2°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  2. Current Conditions: Clear, sunny and calm, a glorious morning. Current Temp: 11.8°C Humidity: 73% Pressure: 1027.3hPa (Rising) Dewpoint: 7.1°C Wind: W (7mph) Yesterday's Min/Max Max Temp: 17.4°C Min Temp: 6.9°C Yesterday was the warmest day so far this April. It started clear and relatively mild before clouding over as the warm front passed over around midday. After the front had moved over the skies cleared and the wind died down giving a glorious end to the afternoon. This allowed the temperature to reach 17.4°C, my highest April max so far. Despite clear skies, the minimum was also the highest this April. These values bumped up my average temperature by almost half a degree, so it is now once again well above average. My April average currently stands at 8.7°C (+1.1°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  3. This morning started off cold, crisp and clear with a frost and a little of yesterdays dusting of snow remaining. However by 9am the temperature had already risen sharply to 9°C and put an end to that. Around midday it then clouded over and despite reaching 11.6°C still felt very cold in a strong NW'erly wind. This evening has remained cloudy and the temperature is holding up so no chance of a frost. After this recent cold spell my average April temperature has also come down significantly, but it will rise again by Monday no doubt. Current Temp: 7.1°C Max Temp: 11.6°C (at 12:42) Min Temp: -0.6°C (at 00:51) Humidity: 83% Pressure: 1018.5hPa (Steady) Dewpoint: 4.4°C Wind: WNW (11mph) My April average currently stands at 8.3°C (+0.7°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  4. Report for Friday as I missed the Friday thread A cold and rainy start followed by a partly cloudy and dry day. Later on some heavy snow showers passed over with the last of these giving a dusting on cars, grass and roofs. Tonight has seen skies totally clear and temperatures drop below freezing with a hard frost. With northerly winds today reaching almost gale force at times it has felt very cold indeed, colder in fact than the late-Feb easterly did. Very interesting weather for April! The current cold snap has taken its toll on the average temperature aswell, dropping some 0.7°C today but still well above the 1971-2000 average. Current Temp: -0.2°C Max Temp: 6.8°C (at 11:20) Min Temp: -0.4°C (at 22:12) Humidity: 82% Pressure: 1019.9hPa (Rising) Dewpoint: -2.8°C Wind: N (7mph) My April average currently stands at 8.7°C (+1.1°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  5. Had 4 heavy snow showers tonight after a mainly dry day and some rain early this morning. The last of the snow showers lasted around 25 minutes and has left a dusting on the grass, cars and roofs. There was a maximum temperature today of only 6.8°C, which just goes to show a northerly even in April can be quite potent.
  6. It was a blustery day of many heavy showers of rain and hail, but milder than expected reaching just above 13°C this afternoon in one of the sunny spells. The dewpoint and humidity have steadily dropped during the day as the polar air digs in, but strangely the temperature is holding up rather well. Tonight has calmed down a lot, with skies clouding over and all showers dying out. It will be interesting to see if tonight cools down enough to give any snow, so far it looks unlikely. Current Temp: 5.5°C Max Temp: 13.3°C (at 15:30) Min Temp: 3.3°C (at 03:50) Humidity: 68% Pressure: 999.9hPa (Rising) Dewpoint: 0.0°C Wind: NW (12mph) My April average currently stands at 9.4°C (+1.8°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  7. Quite an exciting day, the morning started off cloudy with some very heavy rain and southerly winds touching 30mph at times. Then the front passed over and cleared very quickly giving a mixture of sunshine and heavy showers, some of which contained hail and one even gave some thunder, the first of the year here. The wind has gradually decreased through the day and at the moment it is actually rather calm, with a WNW breeze which is steadily veering to the north. Although only predicted around 10-11°C, today was another mild day with 14°C almost reached. Last night was mild aswell, not falling much below 7°C all night. Current Temp: 5.5°C Max Temp: 13.9°C (at 14:14) Min Temp: 5.4°C (at 23:33) Humidity: 84% Pressure: 995.7hPa (Falling) Dewpoint: 2.9°C Wind: WNW (8mph) My April average currently stands at 9.7°C (+2.1°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  8. The morning and early afternoon were partly cloudy with some decent sunny spells coming through and feeling quite mild in the sun when it did show itself. Cloud thickened by mid-afternoon and sparked off a few showers, some of which were very heavy at times. Despite being another above average day temperature-wise, today was the coldest maximum I have recorded so far this April. Last night was also quite chilly, just escaping a ground frost despite a significant dew. Five days into the month and my April average is still extremely high. That should decrease in the next few days as the cold air digs in. Current Temp: 6.9°C Max Temp: 14.1°C (at 14:50) Min Temp: 3.5°C (at 04:55) Humidity: 79% Pressure: 1016.2hPa (Falling) Dewpoint: 3.5°C Wind: WSW (9mph) My April average currently stands at 9.7°C (+2.1°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  9. The morning started overcast with a little light rain as the front passed over. It then dried up and some breaks in the cloud later on allowed some short spells of sunshine. Visibility has been excellent today as well, with humidity reaching a low of 47%, very dry air indeed this close to the coast. In a moderate SW wind it felt cool for most of the day, despite temperatures being a tad above average. Last nights minimum was 8.6°C and it already looks like tonight will be much colder. It is already 4.9°C and falling rapidly. Current Temp: 4.9°C Max Temp: 14.2°C (at 13:22) Min Temp: 4.9°C (Current Temp) Humidity: 76% (Min. today of 47%) Pressure: 1018.3hPa (Rising) Dewpoint: 1.0°C Wind: WSW (6mph) My April average currently stands at 9.9°C (+2.3°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  10. A strange day with a huge temperature range, just before 7am it was only slightly above freezing, yet by midday it was already 16°C, just the kind of spring day I like. It started off fairly misty but as this cleared it turned pleasantly warm and sunny. After midday however, it clouded over somewhat and the wind became stronger making it feel a lot chillier. In cloudy skies it has stayed very mild tonight, the Atlantic air circulating around the low pressure has definitely arrived, yet in a now strong SW'erly, it feels cold. Current Temp: 12.9°C Max Temp: 16.7°C (at 13:55) Min Temp: 0.9°C (at 06:45) Humidity: 75% Pressure: 1015.7hPa (Steady) Dewpoint: 8.5°C Wind: SW (12mph) My April average currently stands at 9.9°C (+2.3°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  11. A misty start after a rather foggy night. By midday it had all burnt off and was relatively clear allowing some glorious sunshine and quite low humidity (45%). In the sunshine with a maximum temperature of 16.3°C it felt very pleasant indeed, despite the light SE wind which was quite cool. The humidity has increased tonight and as the temperature has fallen significantly it now feels quite cold. Current Temp: 5.6°C Max Temp: 16.3°C (at 12:53) Min Temp: 5.6°C (Current Temp) Humidity: 80% Pressure: 1018.5hPa (Falling) Dewpoint: 2.4°C Wind: ESE (4mph) My April average currently stands at 10.7°C (+3.1°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  12. The day started off much like the last week or so, with overcast skies and a light mist remaining from last night where there was thick fog. However throughout the day the mist lifted and the cloud slowly broke up to give some spells of hazy sunshine. This evening has once again produced a fog, but it is very low as clear sky can actually still be seen above. The first day of April was a mild day, starting off the average in double figures, no doubt tomorrow will increase it further. Current Temp: 6.6°C Max Temp: 14.5°C (at 13:36) Min Temp: 6.4°C (at 02:47) Humidity: 88% Pressure: 1022.8hPa (Steady) Dewpoint: 4.7°C Wind: SE (calm) My April average currently stands at 10.5°C (+2.9°C Above the 1971-2000 average).

The first (1st - 13th) being cold in easterly/northerly airflows which led to a 2cm covering on the 5th. The second part (14th - 25th) was very mild but relatively dull with only hazy sunshine. The last part (25th-31st) was typical anti-cyclonic gloom - day after day of overcast skies, mist, drizzle and fog in the night. The wet and dry day figures do not tell the whole story, rainfall was definitely low with many days of drizzle amounting to nothing. As usual in the north-east in March, sunshine was at a premium - I only saw the sun properly on a handful of days.
  14. Another mostly cloudy day with a few intervals of hazy sunshine during the morning and early afternoon. This allowed the temperature to rise quite nicely before it clouded over and cooled down a little later in the afternoon. This evening has seen a thick fog develop in a light SSE wind with visibility below 100m. Today has just managed to tip my March average temperature to +1.0°C Above the 1971-2000 average, making it another well-above average month. Current Temp: 6.9°C Max Temp: 13.8°C (at 13:13) Min Temp: 4.3°C (at 07:13) Humidity: 91% Pressure: 1024.2hPa (Steady) Dewpoint: 5.5°C Wind: SSE (4mph) My March 2005 average is 7.3°C (+1.0°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  15. An overcast day with some light mist which dissipated by mid-morning. It has been dry apart from a little light drizzle around midday which barely wet the ground. Another cool day and mild night, but just enough to send my March average 1.0°C above average. Current Temp: 5.2°C Max Temp: 9.4°C (at 13:12) Min Temp: 5.4°C (at 23:59) Humidity: 91% Pressure: 1021.0hPa (Rising) Dewpoint: 3.8°C Wind: NNE (4mph) My March average currently stands at 7.3°C (+1.0°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  16. Another dull, cloudy and misty day. It did stay dry all day however, with the mist lifting after around midday. It also felt much milder today with less of a wind than recent days and a milder maximum of just under 10°C - about average for this time of year. The night minimum was well above average once again, due to last night being overcast, foggy and later on very wet. Current Temp: 7.2°C Max Temp: 9.8°C (at 15:43) Min Temp: 5.9°C (at 06:25) Humidity: 89% Pressure: 1012.3hPa (Rising) Dewpoint: 5.5°C Wind: NE (calm) My March average currently stands at 7.2°C (+0.9°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  17. An overcast and misty day but unlike yesterday it stayed dry throughout. Once again it was another cold day, but with a lighter breeze than yesterday it didnt feel as chilly. Due to the cloudy skies the minimum was quite mild last night, typical anti-cyclonic gloom really. Current Temp: 6.3°C Max Temp: 7.8°C (at 15:21) Min Temp: 5.6°C (at 06:50) Humidity: 93% Pressure: 1010.0hPa (Rising) Dewpoint: 5.2°C Wind: E (2mph) My March average currently stands at 7.2°C (+0.9°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  18. A miserable day. From start to finish it was dull, drizzly, misty and cold. The rain was almost none-stop and gradually got heavier as the day went on before stopping in the late evening. As it stands there is currently thick fog, much like early this morning, but the entire day has seen poor visibility due to lingering mist. With a maximum temperature of 9.4°C and not reaching above 8°C in the daylight hours it has been a cold day, a total contrast from yesterday's 17.3°C. Current Temp: 6.1°C Max Temp: 9.4°C (at 00:55) Min Temp: 6.1°C (at 22:40) Humidity: 93% Pressure: 1007.6hPa (Falling) Dewpoint: 5.0°C Wind: NNE (7mph) My March average currently stands at 7.2°C (+0.9°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  19. A suprising day today. It actually turned out very warm despite being mostly cloudy with the odd sunny spells. However when the sun did come out it was very pleasant indeed and allowed the temperature to reach the highest of the year so far - 17.3°C. This evening has become overcast as the wind turned to the east around 4pm and has since started to drizzle. With such a warm day, my March average is now nearly a full degree above 1971-2000 levels, it looks for sure that March will finish well above average once again. Current Temp: 9.1°C Max Temp: 17.3°C (at 11:51) Min Temp: 6.1°C (at 04:30) Humidity: 89% Pressure: 1012.1hPa (Falling) Dewpoint: 7.4°C Wind: ENE (2mph) My March average currently stands at 7.2°C (+0.9°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  20. The morning started off dull and overcast with light rain but by midday this died out and the cloud thinned a little allowing some short periods of sunshine. Once again it was another mild day, following on from a mild night. This meant my March average hit the 7°C mark as expected. Although the next few days are forecast to be cooler, it looks very unlikely it will drop to below this figure. Another well above average March looks to be on the cards now. Current Temp: 7.6°C Max Temp: 15.2°C (at 14:13) Min Temp: 6.4°C (at 04:24) Humidity: 90% Pressure: 1012.6hPa (Rising) Dewpoint: 6.1°C Wind: SW (4mph) My March average currently stands at 7.0°C (+0.7°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  21. A glorious day, the morning started off clear and although cloud did build throughout the day, it was never enough to block out the sunshine for more than a minute or so. With a maximum of 16.9°C it felt extremely pleasant in the sunshine, shame about the cool breeze though. Tonight has clouded over a little more, but temperatures have remained mild. My March CET is now approaching 7°C, its almost a guarantee it will be there by Friday. Current Temp: 7.3°C Max Temp: 16.9°C (at 14:30) Min Temp: 6.8°C (at 04:29) Humidity: 90% Pressure: 1012.6hPa (Falling) Dewpoint: 5.8°C Wind: SE (11mph) My March average currently stands at 6.8°C (+0.5°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  22. Last year on March 11th 2004 if I remember correctly, about 3cm or so. The next day it was gone by around 10am due to the strong sun. This was due to an easterly with a strong 1040mb high over scandinavia and -8°C 850hPa temperatures. The easterly was unusual in that it didnt really produce much cloud as would be expected here. This was probably due to the North Sea last year which was well above average. That was actually the second cold spell of the month, we had some snow on the 1st or 2nd aswell, but this didnt lay. We also had 2cm on the 5th March 2005 this year, from the northerly after the easterly spell. Its Ironic, but March tends to be the snowiest month here.
  23. An overcast day with some heavy rain from around midday, the first significant rain for some time. After around 5pm it became dry and since then the cloud has broken a little allowing some clear spells. Despite being rather damp and dreary it was mild once again however. Last night was also a mild one and along with tonight, will significantly increase the March average here. That 7°C March is still looking on course. Current Temp: 10.1°C Max Temp: 13.0°C (at 12:55) Min Temp: 7.8°C (at 02:15) Humidity: 89% Pressure: 1007.3hPa (Rising) Dewpoint: 8.3°C Wind: SSW (8mph) My March average currently stands at 6.6°C (+0.3°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  24. A rather nice day, despite a chilly south-easterly wind. The first day in 8 in fact that we have seen some sunshine. It was glorious this morning, but clouded over after midday. Tonight is much the same, mostly cloudy with the odd clear break. Despite the cold wind, it was a mild day once again, putting my March average above the 1971-2000 average. It certainly looks like another 7+°C March at this rate. Current Temp: 7.9°C Max Temp: 12.6°C (at 13:25) Min Temp: 3.2°C (at 03:25) Humidity: 81% Pressure: 1004.1hPa (Falling) Dewpoint: 4.8°C Wind: ESE (15mph) My March average currently stands at 6.4°C (+0.1°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
  25. Another dull, misty and overcast day. It felt quite chilly in the light south-easterly wind and due to the persistence of the mist only reached a maximum of 10.7°C. Tonight has become very foggy, with visibility below 100 metres and has allowed a temperature drop to 4.6°C - the lowest since last sunday. My March average once again hung on today, currently equalling the 1971-2000 average, that will go above average for sure tomorrow. Current Temp: 5.2°C Max Temp: 10.7°C (at 12:51) Min Temp: 4.6°C (at 23:04) Humidity: 93% Pressure: 1016.0hPa (Falling) Dewpoint: 4.1°C Wind: SE (7mph) My March average currently stands at 6.3°C (Equal to the 1971-2000 average).
