  1. Having lived in Edmonton i can say like most Prairie cities it never get comfortably warm during the winter..only Calgary is the exception to this rule.
  2. Since when has anyone ever trusted the French or Americans
  3. 15/16th February 1978..the previous 7 days had been very cold with snow showers..the weather broke and rain pushed in from the SW as predicted... it rained all day on the 15th..late in the afternoon the rain slowly but surely turned to snow quite unexpectedly... as the snow fell the weather forecast was still for heavy rain with maybe some sleet across the moors..it snowed all night and left about 6-8 inches on the ground..there were a couple more attempts for milder weather to push in which resulted in more snow on the 16th and 17th..and finally culminated in the great west country blizzard from 18-20th February 1978..which produced the most snowfall in one sitting i have ever seen.
  4. no hes right first time looks like low pressure over Scandinavia..if was blocking then Russia would be cold as would most of Europe..but Russia is mild so suggests low pressure with the UK on the cold side and Russia with mild sw or southerly flow
  5. yes he couldnt have been more wrong this side of the pond last year
  6. im probably coming home for a few weeks over chrimbo and new year so it better be typically mild wet and windy..or else i shall be writing to the tourist board and complain
  7. Winter arrived a month early this year in Western Canada..we didn't have an autumn at all..went from +26c first week of October (after three months of hot sunny weather) to below freezing a few days later and its never recovered, it has stayed cold since...very unusual for this to happen. What it means for the rest of Winter here i have no idea?
  8. you know what really hacks me off..and that's shoveling the drive and footpaths...i have had to do it 5 times already this season..hoping for no more snow until next October
  9. got down to -25c here on Sat night...just saying
  10. i think this only going one way..that low in the Atlantic backed by the high to south will steam roller from west to east
  11. your like for cold and snow will disappear pretty rapidly believe me.
  12. we had a wack of snow during the day yesterday when they forecast 5-10cm then the big hit was going to be last night with another 15-20cm falling..but it petered out yesterday evening had no real extra snowfall at all..even the guy on the radio this morning joked with the met guy that we never get the high end numbers from snowfall warnings so why bother because it never happens
  13. seems to be the Atlantic side of the Arctic that is dragging its feet...this side and on the pacific side seems to have caught up...i blame all the hot air coming out of the winter and model output discussion topics on this forum that is doing all the damage!!!
  14. its been chucking it down in spades here all day..welcome back to winter cc
  15. Just driving in to work this morning through more snow..and the guy on the radio mentioned the word 'snowmageddon' as we are at the start of 2 day snow event which will dump up to 30cm on the city..any way only ever seen that word on this forum before.
  16. Here is the latest winter outlook issued by Environment Canada on 31st Oct...note the forecast above average values on the east and north east side of Canada would be indicative of some kind of northern blocking over Greenland or the north Atlantic
  17. brought quite a bit of snow to the south west only a short lived affair though.
  18. you know i wish the weather or should i say if its going to be cold and have snow was the only thing i had worry about...life's just too short
