  1. yeah there are a few floating around on you tube
  2. i havnt looked at the charts for at least a month now..and looking at this mornings offering i can honestly say i dont ever remember seeing so many greens on an output in july for such a long period...unsettled and often quite windy to boot
  3. i was in Detroit when this tornado struck and was certainly headline news in the states..however looking at google street view there isnt much to see compared to the sites seen on the news that day!
  4. on the face of it july 1816 dosnt look that cold..a fair few 70f plus readings in there and even one above 80f...maybe im reading it wrong..would have expected lower daytime readings??
  5. i remember this spell quite well...playing football on the saturday nr colchester losing 4-1 in our first of only 2 defeats that season..on a bone hard pitch and blazing sun..reason i remember it so well was because we played most the game with 10 men after early sending off very hard work indeed. also remember the hot spell in 1995 too as one my best friends got married in chelmsford in beautiful warm sunshine..was a cracking reception to boot from what i can remember
  6. ive just comeback from cyprus where it hit 40c on a couple of days...so ive accustomised to the heat..one thing i have notice and always do when comming back to the uk..is how incrdible humid it gets here thats the real downer with the weather here.
  7. if i knew how??? they r on the mini 8 video format..have my kids on there to when they were just babies...not sure how to transfer it all
  8. perfect weather dry cloudless skies, lots of sunshine nice cooling breeze
  9. i just bought my first camcorder and have those thunderstorms on video somewhere.
  10. yes but it wasnt a blazin june was it???...what im talkin about is numerous hot days followed by chilly nights
  11. it would be interesting to see how much hotter june 1822 would be today...bearing in mind london is a huge conurbation now compared to then and all the associated heat island effect would have. lots of single figure minimums in there which are almost unheard of in a london summer these days.
  12. i agree... waste of money and not the way forward in terms of renewables
  13. very interesting post from RJS more like that please!!! some people would like to learn about the possibilities of cooling or not and the factors involved in nice simple terms. i have read the last 4 or 5 pages trying to digest some interesting facts on this subject..but found the thread filled with petty squabbling..... very disappointing!
  14. the last graph clearly shows 2009 to have more ice than the previous years shown..also shows the melt rate so far has been less than in previous years as well. so i would say both are right..the top one clearly is an average against the running mean since 1979..so is slightly below average (which is what i would expect to see)..the bottom graph is just the last 5 yrs.
  15. try using google earth with the weather turned on
  16. there was alot of snow particularly over high ground of south west england second weekend of may 1996..ten tors was abandoned that year because of snow.
  17. is it me or it seems that the weather in summer time is less prone to storms than in the 1970s & 80s..had some really spectacular night time storms back then which seemed to have disapeared.
  18. philip eden was looking pretty rough....looked like he been sat on a park bench all afternoon in the company of some special brew and a bottle of cider.
  19. 46f and sunny this morning.touched 71f yesterday afternoon pretty much the same again me thinks
  20. as somebody who works in construction the opposite is true. Tarmac acts like heat sponge because of its make up and its colour, not only does it absorb solar radiation..it also gains heat relative to its surroundings through friction of moving traffic..much more than concrete roads. However the area of tarmac roads globally is minute and in terms of heat gain it is most effective during the summer months.
  21. funny i remember 1975 & 1998 being cold and wintry..but i cant even remember last easter..let alone it being so cold...very strange.
  22. after searching through the archives i have found it..i remember it being a friday..and looking at the charts it was definetly friday 19th Janaury 1979
  23. it is always interesting to see peoples perception of what is a good snow event simply by their age and location. I you are over a certain age most of the good events are memories of pre 1992. For me a good event has to be something longer lasting than a couple of days ie heavy snowfall that then hung around comfortably for at least a week. That's why alot of recent events inc this february wouldnt even get into my top 10. i do remember one event in the winter of 1979 that dumped a huge amount of snow during a 12hour spell schools closed and sent home etc..which slowly turned to rain and by the next morning had been washed away by heavy rain and much milder temperatures. To me this was a massive disapointment not a favourite event (while everybody is talking about let downs)cant remember when exactly in 1979 it was... anyone have any clues?
  24. wow you must be knocking on?...telegram from the queen yet?
  25. has turned into a beautiful sunny day here in west london..nice breeze too
