  1. I was living in the Lewisham/Brockley/New Cross triangle of SE London in the summer of 1994..without looking at any weather records ..June was dry and warm but not hot..world cup was on..July was hot humid and thundery...August must have been fairly average don't really remember much about it..Sept was wet and cool at times?
  2. raz.org.rain UK Summers were definitely on a cool and wet default setting when i was growing up..somewhere after 1988 that setting began to change
  3. Wold Topper Food Dependency..once the govt decide what can be grown and how and what you consume they further gain control of your everyday life..its easy to push climate change as an existential threat for other more sinister agendas.
  4. the UK has cut emissions by nearly 70% per capita since 1991..yet China has increased by 500% per capita in the same period and is now more than double that of the UK per capita and predicted to keep rising until at least 2030..for me this is a huge elephant in the room that nobody wishes to address...just stop oil and extinction rebellion can continue to throw tantrums on our streets ..however the UK is doing a great job ..others are not and that is why 1.5c 2.0c or 3.0c cant be stopped.
  5. This is my position on Climate Change.. is the world warming? yes.. are man made emissions responsible for said warming? yes. is the world economy going to collapse due to a warming world? no are we in imminent danger of global catastrophe now or in 100 years ? i would say no. is moving away from fossil fuels a good idea? yes are renewables a long term solution ? no will the UK/EU/USA reaching net zero by 2030 solve the issue? no is giving China/India etc a free pass negating resolving climate change in the short and long term ? yes is carbon capture/ nuclear power and the development of water/hydrogen energy the answer? yes Does anyone know what the planet will be like in 100 years from now..even the top boffins from round the world? no Do i think there are bigger threats to my children's future than climate change ? yes
  6. having to dig myself out of 5 ft of snow this morning...worst snowstorm here in the last 5 years..dumped 30cm of snow since yesterday lunchtime. Which doesn't sound too bad however its been very windy wipping up some large drifts of snow and of course not a snow plough in site on the roads this morning ..this one event has dropped more snow in one go than the rest of the winter season so far.
  7. In Absence of True Seasons like the celebs who say they will emigrate if X, Y or Z wins the election..but it never happens
  8. March can do one as far as I'm concerned....its only redeeming factor is that is not January or February
  9. Froze were the Days TBF the average max in February for London and much of southern England is around 9c
  10. 1983 is the most underrated summer of the 20th C end of discussion.
  11. My question is if superior beings (aliens) exist why do they always appear to be naked ?..maybe they couldn't get passed the flared trousers and platform shoes stage and reverted back to birthday suits ..maybe that's the great filter? if so are we the first species to get past it?
  12. Bricriu E17boy discount a strong basin wide El Nino at your peril ..there is your head scratcher and winter overriding factor IMO
  13. kold weather actually 2.0c puts this El Nino in the very strong category ...moderate is below 1.5c...it has been above 1.5c since August ..so its always been a basin wide strong event which doesn't favour cold conditions across the NA or Western Europe ..which is exactly what has happened...discounting El Nino as a factor was fool hardy
  14. lassie23 oh i dont know... met few people from Uranus on the roads this morning
  15. I was living in Calgary in the summer of 2012..on the contrary to the UK it was one of the hottest summers on record for Western Canada
  16. jules216 February 1983 was cold and snowy in the UK ..other than that getting a cold month with a strong El Nino was always going to be a big ask
  17. Summer8906 if you grew up prior to the 1990s then summers today are something you could only dream of back then..+30c days were a rare beast
  18. ManiaMuse sunset is past 5.30pm here now ..sunrise is still past 8am though
  19. SunnyG im still unsure why the UK shuts schools because of snow ..here in Edmonton if that was the case they would be shut 6 months of the year..never closed when i was at school
  20. raz.org.rain they are not anomalies they % probabilities of the temp being above normal for the period
  21. ANYWEATHER schools never close here ..even when its -50c and there is a foot of snow.
  22. raz.org.rain only Modki ElNino favour cold block pattern.. basin wide events which is what we have had all winter favour wet and mild to prevail which is what has happened but do they do favour colder wetter springs see 1998 for example cold miserable April
  23. *Stormforce~beka* im so looking forward to spring and summer this year
  24. winterfreak yep Novia Scotia and the Maritimes had their worst snow storm for 20 years ..some places got 150cm in 36 hrs
