Is it just me or is the wind direction (i.e. more or less Northerly) allowing the cold air to undercut the precip to a certain extent??? This may mean it stays as snow even towards the west?? If anyone has NW radar you can put on the 850hpa wind vectors and they are Northerly direct into the precip. Surely this will allow for a greater chance of snow?
Any ideas???
That would be my guess too...there's a wall of precip not too far from here...Light rain in the wind...
-
Maybe slightly OT?? But (if I remember correctly?) the White Xmas of 1968 was 'marginal' meteorologically...I recall heavy rain turn through sleet into a right dumping over a period of several hours...I think that the precip started at about 4C or so?? It can happen!
-
And (interestingly?) there's ice forming on the railway sleepers...
-
Partly cloudy and getting quite windy, 2C...
-
It seems like your forecast has gone the same way as my (unpublished) thoughts. I'd fully expected mildness...
-
Thanks for that, John...I'm guessing that it'll start as sleet or rain but might later turn to snow as the colder air digs in behind...I'm hoping so, anyway!
-
I've a feeling that should it eventually snow (as per BBC/MetO warnings???) either myself or HC just might keep y'all informed?
-
Dry and mostly clear with a freshening SW wind, 1C...
-
That's not a good sign, although you are right next to the see aren't you??
Aye mate...There's a bit of a 'warm' sector associated with the stuff coming from the North. Will the cold air undercut it in time?
-
Well the breakdown brigade has shut up at last with no breakdown in sight. Staying cold this week with plenty more sleet and snow. Christmas still a long way off, probably gonna be cold and wintry.
The models do seem to indicate a lot of marginality, though...Uppers often the wrong side of -5C???
Is that the Queen pushing a trolley in your sig, OP?
-
what temp is it? its still -2 here
Around +1C...and the stars are out!!!
You're joking, I don't believe it!!
Typical. I'm still not convinced I'll get snow here this afternoon, it's looking very marginal this far west, although I'm probably more likely to get some than the Ayrshire folk (Ross B, Duncan, etc.).
Honestly CMD, there's nothing at all. It rained in the night, so I expect to see snow on some of the hills, once it gets light enough. Maybe Gilly at Milton of Leys had more luck...
-
Apart from ONE shower early yesterday, there's sod-all snow here...
-
i have a funny feeling this is going to go tits up round here tomorrow, our temps are far too high for snow...
Bloody annoying, innit! Rain, rain rain. Where's the very cold air gone to?
-
Dry after the rain's stopped, 1C...

hey folks been watching netweather forums for yrs so thot id join. im a bit surprised im in aberdeen and it hasnt really forecast much snow today but its been snowing here for the past hr pretty heavy and since about 3 lighty till now. but have noticed on met office hourly updates that north of aberdeen in rosehearty that its turned to rain as temps have risen. any1 think it will turn to rain here?
Welcome to netweather, leeabz...It may turn to rain (as it has here) but I wouldn't worry too much if it does - there's always tomorrow!

Just to keep you lot of moaners up-to-date - here's the latest from the boss:
"Quick update - moving to the new server is taking a little while longer than we'd hoped, but we are still hopeful of completing it tonight all things being equal.
Once over we'll be able to switch all the usual facilities back on.."
I think that that includes sex-changes???
-
Thanks mate...I'll pass it on to the Whingeing Jocks!!!
-
And are you still a snowfreak?
I'll always be a snowfreak, Gilly...My mother has 3" of snow in Bucks!
all eyes are on south England even on this board usually they issue warning well before the met-office but nothing at all is a strange situation
Sod the South of England!!!

Bumping this last chance to get some extra points.
Thanx for that WM. I'll be back!
Thanx for that WM. I'll be back!
Okay, mate:
Max temp, +3C;
Min temp, -2C;
Max wind, 25mph;
Weather - sleet/snow showers; snow showers; snow showers...

Some of the nights minimums on this run are shocking. Either indicative that the new GFS model is too 'cold favoured' or that we may get a cold spell on the level of perhaps 1981. I just hope the models are having a fit.
I really don't know, Ste. But, if winds drop-out (as per GFS) and freezing-fog forms, there could be some very low nighttime temps?
-
My mother just reminded me of the time my father threw bits of newspaper out the upstairs window...You have to be a real snowfreak to fall for that one!

If any of you were listening to Five Live, ya'll know full-well that Scottty is under threat this weekend...And, that comes via the MetO!
-
Sleety stuff up here, at the mo...Maybe you should expect a 'warm' sector sometime this evo???
-
That's good News, S...I've no doubt at all, that the 'good stuff' is on its way!
