  1. John Holmes and Steve Murr are very good, but they're not trying to issue information to 60 million people and countless organisations.

I never quite understand why the Met Office get such a hard time!

I can only assume that it's because, when the MetO predicts 'up to 20cm' of snow might fall over 'some' parts of SE England, East Anglia, Eastern England and Northeastern England; a few folks take that to mean, everywhere?? :smiliz19: :drinks:

IMO, any excuse to hammer the Met! :w00t: :w00t:

  2. Did you just tell me to be patient? I am FEMALE, I don't do patient :D.

:D  Maybe, I've changed sex too then?? :80::p:D

Anyhoos, as so many of the features are nae working the noo, I'll try and help with the precipitation-type malarkey...Though, John Holmes's 'Will it Snow' thread is much more definitive... :p

    1) To estimate sea-level temperatures (and, thus the likely precipitation-type) add around 8-9C or so to the 850Mpa temps shown on the GFS. This makes (-5C) marginal at best IMO, as it results (usually) in about +3-4C at SL??? -10c and below is great!!

    2) Sometimes, especially when cold air is at the surface (after snowfall and with light winds) snow can fall even with 850HPa temps of 0C???

There are many complications involved with this (see JH's thread!) but I hope my rule-of-thumb helps, in the mean time??? :D

  3. clap.gif yayyyy now make it come my way. lol

can somebody tell me how to put my location on, i cant do it :(

Some of the features'll be down until the server gets switched-over my boy!! You'll need to delay the sex-change for a wee whilie?? :) :)

Anyhoo, snow showers spreading slowly south. Nothing all that intense as yet...But, according to Five Live, we could all be in for a fun weekend...Be patient??? :)

    Winter has arrived :)

    Nice pics, CMD!!!

  4. According to the Five Live forecast, snow showers (maybe sleet on the coast at times :( ) will intensify from the North during the day...Tonight should be very icy! :yahoo:

But, when the sub -10s get in tomorrow???:clap::clap::cold::cold::cold:

A northerly is rubbish here, unless it is a proper M&S non-toppler and there is a front :) Which we should manage.

Same here; the mountains to the North extract all the moisture. Northwest is best! :(
