    And the GFS is always too progressive. Until it isn't.

    The only time I ever witnessed winds as devastating as that was in 1989, in Glenurquhart -- the day after, there were so many trees downed, it looked like the aftermath of Tunguska. I feel for you guys!

    I haven't lost faith in the background signals, per se @Penguin16, but the usual rampers do sometimes get on my nerves.

    Absolutely; I've been obsessed with the stuff since 1963; but others haven't. I guess that's human nature?

    Well, given the fact that peeps' wishes and wants are wholly irrelevant (the weather simply is) I really couldn't give a sheet about hopes. . . But I must admit to being a tad 'peeved' at yesterday's newspaper forecasting 'wintry snow'. As if there's any other kind of snow!

    There's nothing political about buses stopping at a random stop just because six snowflakes are blowing in the wind, either!

    And we had at least two good dumpings in February 1969; one from a polar low running down the East Coast and another from an easterly blizzard caused by a depression that came up from France, PS: We also had a snowstorm in January 1968, along with minima below 14F lasting for five days; something we hardly ever see these days.

    It's currently -2.1C here. But, should you like to cavort about naked, it'll feel like -6. . . I've never seen the point of 'feels like' temperatures!

    I must confess that, IMO, The Day After Tomorrow was one of the crappiest films I've ever seen!

    The excitement, amongst pensioners at least, is building.

    Mum always told me that 'tomorrow never comes', but Day 10, it seems, is guaranteed!

    The chase for Day Ten is on again. It didn't take long, did it?

    And sixteen consecutive days at 32C or above will, I think, will stay top-of-the-league for many more years (if not decades).
