  1. Aye WH, and things are further complicated when bona fide forecasters inform us all that 'any early fog should soon burn off'?
  2. When I was oop in the Heelands, hedgehogs were frequent visitors (I suspected they were after the hens' eggs?) to the garden...But, anyways, I used to put saucers of milk out for them, as they're such docile and friendly creatures... Then again, they can be a rather prickly subject...
  3. Absolutely agree, Pete; but that was because they (along with everyone else) were only ever looking for one thing: a morning-time increase in road accidents involving kiddies, due to darker mornings...And they found one, too - and that's never been disputed. What they didn't find - because everyone seemed to have overlooked it, for some reason - was that the mornings' additional accidents were more than compensated for by a concomitant reduction during the evenings...due to lighter evenings. And, lest anyone think I'm being an arrogant so-and-so, it took me a good forty-years to discover it, myself!
  4. I agree with you on that, Nick. I can't see any advantage in GMT+2.
  5. But the statistics are what they are: BST all year round is safer for the wee-uns...What can be more important than that??
  6. It really doesn't matter what you, or I, happen to think, Nick - the data speak for themselves - any increase in morning-time accidents was more than offset by the evening-time reduction...? Simples!
  7. And my wee bro was knocked-down at around 4:15 in the afternoon, when drivers' eyes were forever trying to keep up with diminishing light-levels. It really is that easy...?
  8. Maybe you should have a wee look at the facts, Nick? https://www.rospa.com/road-safety/advice/road-users/british-summertime-fact-sheet/
  9. Aye Mike, the original 'findings' apparently came about because folks looked for what they'd expected to happen - an increase in the number of accidents prior to 9 a.m. What they didn't find - because they weren't looking for it - was the even greater reduction in accidents occurring after school. If anyone wants to see the data simply google ROSPA.
  10. No offence, feb, but I think I'll stick with what the proper models say...As for the OPI? Well, if the prevailing conditions during October really are a useful predictor, of what's to come during the following January, wouldn't real meteorologist have picked up on it by now? They would stand to make £billions!
  11. Unfortunately BB, I suspect Halesworth is firmly within the ToD? But, as you say, we've not seen lying snow survive past 10 a.m., for 5 years!
  12. I developed similar feelings about 'the white stuff' when I was up in The Highlands, CM...Once of twice was okay, but when it went on for weeks at a time - no thanks.
  13. Some pretty hefty looking activity to the east and south of here; the anvils over the North Sea look very interesting indeed.
  14. I don't think I've ever seen such intense rain/hail without hearing a single rumble of thunder? If it's somehow related to lack of charge separation (I guess it must be?) I hope Nick F can shed some light?
  15. You spoke too soon; all yesterday's flash-flooding has now been replenished!
  16. I never heard a thing, Alexis...But Mother Russia might have had a say in that!
  17. I have changed my mind, Azazel: before it all started, I thought it was a plain silly idea (I've never had much truck with anthropomorphism.); now, however, it just seems like the normal way of doing things...I guess I was wrong!
  18. All I hope for, is that Hurricane Irma dissipates as soon as possible - and with no more loss of life!
