  1.  Maz Yes, and another way of looking at it is that it's only up until the solstice (winter or summer) then things gradually start improving after that (whether it is darkness or lightness you are looking forward to).

Personally I enjoy both long light summer evenings and long cosy winter evenings in equal measure. What would actually be ideal for me would be somewhere where the day and night hours are of equal length all year round. I believe Singapore is like that.

Don't wait for the warm weather before putting the cream on!

During the heatwave last September I had no protection yet received nothing more than just a slight tan. Had it been during July with no protection then I would have been burnt to a crisp. Just shows that it's all about the sun's strength rather than temperature.

  3. In terms of temps and rainfall it hasn't been too bad of a March so far for this neck of the woods and has actually been quite pleasant for much of the time. My only gripe really is that there hasn't been a lot of sun. Though when the sun is out, the warmth is now so noticeable that you'd do OK with a spring jacket. Time to start digging out the sunscreen now I think.

  4.  damianslaw Yes, it's a continuation of what we have endured over the last few months. I would have liked to have had a last minute wintry spell earlier this month and now I am looking forward to some spring warmth. Had enough of rain.

*Stormforce~beka* We are long overdue a white Chrstimas. Can't remember the last one. ☃️

  5. So uncanny how the best of the weather conincided with the lockdown. From the beginning to the end of the lockdown the weather was warm and sunny. Before the lockdown as well as once lockdown restrictions started easing in early June the weather began taking a turn for the worse. It's as if our climate was deliberately trolling us.

This was frustrating and I personally would have preferred to have spring 2020 synoptics during the summer when restrictions had been lifted, so we could all have enjoyed it more.

  6. This will likely be unpopular but I am going to say summer 2012.

As horrific as that summer was, only the first half was exceptionally so, with a huge improvement from around the time the schools broke up. I remember a very welcome hot and sunny spell in late July, then an unsettled blip and finally a pleasant enough August. And whilst not technically summer I will mention it anyway seeing as some people consider it to be an extension of summer, early September that year was nice also. I can also recall a thunderstorm event at the end of June which did add some interest.

Still a poor summer, but 2007 was worse.

  7. Spring 2012 started off well with a nice March, but the season went downhill once April arrived, with the month being poor throughout with the odd nice day here and there. May was poor up until around the 22nd which gave us a warm sunny spell.

  8. Felt very springlike today with the mild temp and strengthening sunshine. Now that we are in March, I am happy for this kind of weather to stay. Though I am happy with cold up until the middle of the month.

  9. Inspired by the Underrated Summers topic created by @Harry233👍

I have always thought summer 2013 is overrated as I only found July to be exceptional. June wasn't much to shout about and was fairly average, whilst August was nice but not exceptionally so.

Whilst it was a good summer, I don't think it deserves all the hype. Though it was excellent compared to the previous 6 summers.

  10. Took me a while to decide as I love all three of those at the right times of year, but if I had to choose to be rid of one then it would be thunderstorms. Everything is dead in winter, so snow makes the bleak landscape look all bright and cheery and it doesn't usually last long enough in this country for me to complain about it. Equally, I enjoy warm sunny weather during the summer and detest dull summers. And our summers are generally not that scorching for me to complain about them..

  11. Yes, I too am fed up of the rain now and some sunshine would be most welcome. Don't care about temperature just yet, I just want a break from the rain.

We need to have a good balance of dry weather and wet weather but that doesn't seem to be the case with our climate nowadays. Not sure if it's just me or not, but over the last few years long wet periods and long dry periods have become more commonplace, sometimes lasting 8 weeks or more.

    Those that spring to mind:

    Mid April 2018 - July 2018 - (dry)
    Late September 2019 - February 2020 (wet)
Mid March 2020 - Early June 2020 (dry)
    Summer 2020 - (wet)
    April 2021 (dry)
    May 2021 (wet)
    January 2022 - August 2022 (dry)
    Autumn 2022 (wet)
    Spring 2023 to present (wet)

  12. I have given up hope now and am ready to confine winter 2023/2024 to the bin where it belongs. There's been so many promising charts over the last few months but all came to very little or nothing. With the exception of a few cold sunny days here and there, winter was mostly dull, wet and mild.

Let's get on with spring now. Winter has had its chance. Whilst I am happy for cold to remain up until mid March, we've been let down so many times this winter that I am no longer feeling hopeful for any cold.

  13. February 2018 - February 2019 (The BFTE started during late February 2018. A year later, it was warm and sunny with temps of over 20 Celsius being recorded)

March 2012 - March 2013 (March 2012 was very springlike with temps reaching over 20 Celsius later on. March 2013 was a continuation of winter)

July 2006 - July 2007 (July 2006 was hot and sunny whereas July 2007 was a very wet and dull month leading to floods)

May 2020 - May 2021 (May 2020 was warm and sunny whereas May 2021 was cool and wet)

April 2011 - April 2012 (Same as above)
