SollyOlly I have indeed been saying that soon we'll all end up hunting for frost, let alone snow.

raz.org.rain At the moment I'd take anything other than rain, whether it is spring warmth or a last minute wintry spell I don't care. I am just tired of getting drenched on my commute to and home from work.

A first half of March 2018 followed by a second half of March 2012 would be good.

13 Celsius in February - "Windows are open today and no heating is needed".
13 Celsius in October - "Brr it's cold. Heating is definitely going on".- 7

SollyOlly Yes, you are correct - it is indeed Feb 2021.
It's a great pity that winter is in such short supply nowadays and I feel sorry for today's kids who may not get to experience proper snow. But yes, spring is a nice season. Generally pleasant temperatures and not overly humid. I also like the variety the season gives us.

And once again, February is turning out to be more like a spring month rather than a winter month, as is the norm these days.

sunny_vale February is the new March, and March is the new February.

After thinking about it, my preference is for summer 2018. Though 2006 did have more thunderstorms.
In regards to 2006, only July stands out as being exceptional in terms of temps. June was nice enough but fairly average overall, though it was fairly sunny. August was mediocre at best in terms of both temps and sunshine.
As for summer 2018, I remember the heat arriving just after the solstice. It lasted throughout July and ended after the first week of August. It was also sunny for much of the time.

Currently 17.9°C upstairs which is comfortable enough for me.
Heating hasn't been on at all today.

If we can't have a March 2012 redux, then a March with April 2021 synoptics would be good.

SollyOlly Oh no, you didn't offend me at all.

Ms Rock & Blues Yes, seasons should be seasonal. The UK has never been great at delivering seasonal weather, but even more so nowadays.
SollyOlly I'll let you in on a little secret since I enjoyed talking to you... I am a woman.
But I will let you off.

SollyOlly Sorry to hear about your health conditions. I think some people don't realise that those who now hate the heat (or any weather type) have legitimate reasons such as health. Heat can have a huge impact on some peoples' health much in the way that cold can.
As for being a bit different, being like everybody else is overrated as far as I'm concerned.

SollyOlly I keep hearing people say that the older they get the more they go off the cold, so it makes a change to hear someone say the exact opposite.
Whilst I like the heat (at the right time of the year), I think many of us would be happy with a summer of average temps and above average sunshine with the odd rainy day here and there.

Once we get to late winter (which I consider to be from the 10th of Feb onwards), I enter a transitional stage where I start looking forward to 15+ Celsius days, but at the same time don't want them to happen just yet. I would really like to experience a cold wintry spell before winter is over. At this stage, it isn't looking likely unfortunately. Though in terms of weather forecasting, it's still early days yet.

Frigid WYorksWeather I think our climate on the whole is more benign these days compared to how it used to be. Including little to no snow in winter as well as little to no thunderstorms during the summer. The winter season in particular is very short nowadays.
February seems to be increasingly becoming more like a spring month whilst December and January are autumnal months.

2012.
A sunny month with some cool or mild days and chilly nights during the first half, followed by spring warmth along with more chilly nights from around the equinox onwards. The perfect March in my book.
The first 3 months of that year were actually decent for seasonal weather, pity that it all went pear shaped from April onwards.
-
CoventryWeather Yes, I would like that also. Whilst I am happy for cold in early March (as well as warmth in early September), by the time we get to mid March I have completely lost interest.
-
CoventryWeather Plenty of time yet for spring warmth.
If we can have heat during early September, then why not cold during early March?

I don't care about mild/warm records as it happens far too often these days.
I would love to see something like the coldest end to February in *insert number here* years, or the codlest start to March.

Not sure if it's me, but it seems as if our climate, which has long been notorious for its unpredictability, is losing that said unpredictability. Obviously there's exceptions in some years, but here are a few examples:
- Even during the most mediocre of summers, sudden heat spikes have become commonplace in recent years with thunderstorms being very few and far between if none at all.
- February is almost always more of a spring month rather than a winter month, with the best of the wintry weather often arriving during the first half of March.
- September is more an extension of summer these days and it is no longer that unusual for the hottest day of the year to occur during that month. However, it is almost always unsettled around the equinox as well as around the end of the month.
- November more often than not is dull, mild and sometimes wet with a cold and settled blip during the last few days.
- December often continues with the cold blip during the first half before switching to dull and mild. Christmas day in particular is always dull and mild as is New Year's day.
- Long wet periods as well as long dry periods also seem to be happening more often.

After being predominently wet over the last 12 months, something like this would be my ideal spring for this year:
March - A March version of April 2021. Though a March 2012 redux would also be nice.
April - A 2007 or 2011 redux.
May - A 2018 or 2020 redux.
-
September is still a long way off from winter, and anything can happen during that time.
Milder than average winters are the norm these days anyway, regardless on how September panned out.

A fairly pleasant day today and it's nice to have some sunshine as well as a little break from the rain. Looks like normal service will be resuming from tomorrow onwards though.

Arctic Hare Everything is waterlogged here in this neck of the woods and no doubt elsewhere across the country. We are certainly overdue a few months of below average rainfall now.
