    I know what you mean, though I only usually look to that with interest when all hope is lost. It comes with a mild pattern built in.

    Disappointing/underwhelming as this cold spell has been, it’s still, in my eyes, so much more welcome than westerly/southwesterly default with temps of 10 degrees and no snow even on mountaintops. When we revert to that, we’ll be wishing for this!

    There were two spells in December 2010 were I got 6-12 inches of snow. The first spell was from 26th November until 9th December and a good 6-12 inches fell on 6th December. The second spell was 16th December until 27th December with the deep snowfall occurring right at the start of this spell with regular top ups throughout. anything close to those would be amazing…..

    Like the ECM I’m gonna stick my flag in the sand for a decent cold spell, around10 days to 2 weeks. Like @damianslaw post above, there is some ludicrous manoeuvres in the GFS latest offering that just don’t look right. Winter is coming
