Tuesdays front could be sleety wet snow at lower levels especially in the South of Scotland as there is a bit of a mild sector wrapped up in the low. 200m and above all Snow
Yep, GFS 18z has some pretty heavy precipitation from 6am to 6pm here and across much of the country which is better than UKV, but it brings in milder air and even at my elevation I would be worried it's going to be sleet. Still some changes ahead, the met office are going to find this one tricky. Small margins between a dumping or a sleet fest. Yellow warnings should really be going out tomorrow if there is any confidence...

Ahh the UKV has that feature on Tuesday only brushing past here at best. Most snow/sleet further southwest and Northern England... Which is also where I'm meant to be driving to on Tuesday so won't be an easy day! Still time for things to change for the better though these things rarely end up moving north.

Remember it well, got into work at 8.30 not a drop of snow and by mid-day the snow was quite deep. This pic was on the journey home from Ravenscraig to Motherwell (via Bellshill) and took about 6 hours! Only had 3-4 hours snow but was utter chaos.
6th December 2010, I remember it well... I drove to work in Edinburgh from Hamilton early after seeing the front coming down from the north so that I could miss it. I didn't count on the morning traffic still being stuck all day and I finally got home at 4am after leaving the office at lunchtime. That involved bypassing a lot of the M8 on dodgy country roads in the dark from Livingston after I had finally escaped the Edinburgh traffic jam. I think it took something like 4 hours to join the M8 from the Newbridge roundabout which must be all of 500m
Great looking charts for next week (even though I said that I wouldn't look!) and the most ramps I've seen in here for many years... I'm optimistic for here, especially since I'll need to travel down south for a few days next week... this always happens!
Oh and partly a coincidence I'm sure but I just jogged past the grit depot which was getting a few big deliveries...

Still -10c at Altnaharra at 10am, Aviemore got down to -11c last night. Feels like a cold spell.... Just above freezing here but dewpoints well below 0c so everything has dried up apart from the frozen puddles

Some very light drizzle/sleet made it through to here, it really just raised the temperature enough to melt most of the frost away quickly . Not really sure how we will do here over the next few weeks... think I'll just ignore the charts and see what happens!

Happy new year all!
Some heavy sleet when I was driving over the moors there as the front begins to move in. Looks to be too warm for more snaw.

Warnings out now. Not looking good. I’m not in them though so who knows.
Ah yeah, to be fair the UKV shows the precip in those areas mostly. But like with the storm the other day the UKV does show some heavier stuff running across Glasgow to Inverclyde and down into Ayrshire a bit. We weren't in the rain warning the other day when this showed and still needed a boat

If that low approaches quicker then could be heavy snow fall.
Met office going with sleet or snow possible to lower levels at first as it moves on. (Strathclyde text forecast) Precip doesn't look that strong or persistent on the UKV though so I'm not going to expect much and will hope for the best. No warnings out though which is a great sign

It's at a standstill at drumochter at least- loads of videos on Facebook. Blizzard conditions, snow ploughs trying their best to get through by the looks of it but so much traffic, heavy drifting snow and very low visibility they will be struggling.

A little windy with heavy sleet, looks like it's pretty close to being snow with the amount of ice running down the window.
Lots of now on some of the higher roads looking at the cams. M74 at beattock currently covered which is well south of the warning area although I guess will be expected to turn to rain soon.

Cold, icey underfoot where snow has been cleared and it was foggy until just a short while ago. Not much snow has melted but I'm guessing that's about to change as the sleety mess makes its way in.

Looks like the wind is starting to change. Bringing more showers inland from the east.
The meto text forecast mentions them getting into the Glasgow area later

Yeah,I’m in two minds whether I would of enjoyed this or not. We went to the Waterhead Inn at Ambleside last sat-tue. It was great, like having a pub as your living room. Dogs are welcome as were my wife’s feet up in the booths. Would love to have been looking out at this. At the same time worrying about getting home. My cars are not suitable for these conditions.
Yeah good fun if you or the family don't need to go anywhere otherwise it's a bit of a pain.
46 minutes ago, JamesM said:Some crazy scenes down there and totally un-forecast. Band just seemed to stall. Drifted south now but more coming in from the west. There was a motorsport event in Grizedale Forest and loads of people have been and still are stuck in the forest and surrounding area since the event was abandoned.
Here, we had a bit of a thaw during the afternoon with a good bit of cloud moving in. Just tipped back to freezing now according to the car. Most snow we’ve had here in two years so took the opportunity to enjoy it!
Cracking photos. Yeah currently watching videos of scoobys towing SUVs (presumably FWD) in the snow in the lake district
Didn't manage to get out in the snow much today due to other things on but not much has melted. I measured 8-10cm this morning, could be even better if we get some "breakdown" snow on top later in the week although typically I'm meant to be driving down south and back..
Currently icey (no meto warning!) with freezing fog.

Meto warning issued for Tuesday... And extended for the areas exposed to showers up to Thursday. Sounds good to me..
Snow showers will continue to feed inland early on Tuesday morning across northern and western Scotland, parts of Wales and northwest England where 2-5 cm of snow is possible over a few hours in some places. During the day, an area of more organised rain, sleet and snow is likely to move east with further showers following. There is still some uncertainty in the track of more prolonged snow, and it is possible that at lower elevations across Wales and northern England, this could turn to rain for a time. However, there is a chance some places could see 5-10 cm perhaps 20 cm of snow, particularly across the northern half of Scotland and over higher ground elsewhere
