Hope you're still awake @Kirkcaldy Weather as you look to be about to get a blizzard, reds on the radar as it passes the Forth!

Ehh we've had a good few inches of snow, missed the heaviest falling because I needed sleep. Unexpected but amazing

The snow is pretty heavy now. A real surprise snowfall this.
Yep, hoping that heaviest bit you have now makes it over here. If you loop the radar a streamer is setting up angled towards us from about the Campbeltown area so it could go on for a while...

Meto warning of 1-3cm of snow above 200m is a little off... Looks like more than that already settled down to sea level in places and the radar is looking good!
Edit: moderate snow here now with everything white, not bad for the first day of winter!

You might not need it. By the looks of things the south’s sunday/ monday snow event is creeping further north. The wheels are coming off for there snow event.
Haha to be fair it started here and trended south... Unless it's the wrap around showers from the east.
Also the radar is looking decent out west...

There's a load more showers currently developing inland today which will drift west /south West, UKV shows the chance of 1 or 2 reaching us later. (currently on radar from about Pitlochry over towards Loch lomond). Somewhere over Argyll with a bit of elevation must be getting a dumping as some of the showers are heavy and barely moving.
Meanwhile later tonight and into the morning the wind moves more to the north West but still might be too northerly to bring us anything inland.
Yello weather warning just issued for the west /south West tonight. Marginal with snow mostly above 200m if the showers even make it this far inland

The apps are telling me a chance of snow tonight/tomorrow but I’m unsure@Kirkcaldy Weather what you thinking any snow for west?

-4.4 here just now. No snow but loving the cold.
Not quite as cold here as it has been but it's just below freezing. A lot of moisture around so I think freezing fog will be likely to form soon.
I'm with @JamesM with the weather station question. I would like to get a new one but not a £500+ Davis as I'll not look after it properly and the rest are hard to tell between!

Loads of ice/black ice here after last night's drizzle and fog. Fingers crossed for a dusting of snow at the end of the week and I'm looking forward to the Snaw pics coming in from those further north and east. Can't delete this emoticon on my phone -!

The rain has definetly picked up since about 2pm here in Crieff, it was wet this morning but the wind was more of an issue. I've just been for a run in the heavy rain which was mad but great fun running through the surface water, I got a few strange looks though A few of the burns look like they're about to burst already so it's easy to see why there will be issues tonight... and to be honest then again over the weekend and into next week!
Let's hope the next red warning is for snow

Yep sadly as I posted on Sunday it had red warning wretten all over it. Hope everyone stays safe or avoids travelling if they can. We're staying in the amber area and due to travel on Friday, wil just need to see what the roads are like as we don't have much choice.
Yesterday was lovely, early frost and Freezing fog which then descended into the glens. Drove up to Pitlochry later in the day and sections of the fields were still under water. We witnessed some farmers out harvesting the last of what they could and one tractor was well and truly stuck in deep mud.

Yes, also unusual they don't mention any idea of rainfall amounts other than extremely heavy, I've never seen a rain warning without an indication of rain amounts before. I saw an ECM chart posted which suggested more than 250mm in places, red warning material if it comes off given recent weather (matrix has it at the highest impact) . I'll also be up in Perthshire later in the week and then travelling back south on Friday so I'm watching closely now...

Some amount of rain just to the south of Glasgow, started about 6 last night and hasn't stopped. I can see quite a bit of flooding if this keeps up during the day which it's forecast to do.
Yep and getting heavier. I know we're used to rain but this is getting pretty bad now!

starting where we sit currently the winds at 925hpa and 950hpa are yet to start the convergence zone dynamics
Really gets firing up from about midnight which will begin the accumulations for many areas
Latest even gets about 100mm toward here come Monday afternoon
ARPEGE has that a bit north but anywhere along that convergence will be getting the 100+
@jamieson87 tbh I can't see how Edinburgh AP avoids minimal disruption at the least, even if it's akin to arpege your still talking in the zone of 70mm
I'm going to say it before @Mair Snaw.... If only it was all snow
OK a bit early but it won't be long before sleet season arrives

IMPORTANT POST WITH EXTREME RAINFALL EVENT FRIDAY THROUGH MON. PLEASE READ TA
Great post KW. I've been keeping an eye on it all week too. Friday originally looked the worst but it has changed over the last few days to Saturday. It was still very wet here Wed and Thursday so all of that rain following a week of wet weather isn't good for flood prone areas. UKV was in particular showing some intense bursts along with the heavy and persistent rain. The meto regional forecast mentions that with a significant risk of flooding. I suspect the meto might get the orange crayon out in their next update for the west at least?

Belter of squall line moving across the central belt now. Gutters were overflowing and I'd imagine some roads will be flooded from that.

Frequent thunder rumbling away to the southwest of me.
Edit: big flash and bang overhead.
I thought I heard thunder, sky looks very stormy to the west/north west but I'm stuck on a work call so I can't go to the top of the hill for a better view unfortunately! Actually a big flash of lightning and deep rumble!

Some of the snowfall totals in the lake district are obscene but not surprising given the radar, 12-18inches looking at some photos. Refuge centers being set up for trapped motorists too.
